The third in a four part series recapping some of the best music to come out of Nashville during the first half of 2011.
ALOHA! by RAD FRNDS Diarrhea Planet don't suck nearly as much as their name does. Their debut EP ALOHA! was released as a 73 earlier this year on Evil Weevil Records , and is filled with joyful, life-affirming power pop with a lo-fi edge. Most of its songs don't even approach two minutes, nor do they need to. Short and sweet is the formula here, but not too sweet-as the name Diarrhea Planet may suggest, these guys don't mind getting a little dirty. With sloppy guitar work and rousing, shouted vocals, there is a [...]
Silly name, amazing results. Diarrhea Planet on Twitter .
New music from Nashville's Diarrhea Planet from the cheeky punk group's forthcoming Loose Jewels release.

One thing is for sure about Nashville: it certainly knows how to make good on the title " Music City ". Not only is it the hometown of honky-tonk bars, delicious barbeque, and mucho Country musicians playing hole-in-the-wall bars at all hours of the day, but the independent/alternative/baseme nt rock music scene is absolutely exploding, making Nashville the city with the highest concentration of the music industry in the U.S. That's right. More than THREE TIMES L.A. So if your inner desire of becoming that brooding bassist in a basement band decides to become a reality, you might find yourself amongst [...]
Kesha does Maxim, Jack White talks accents, Freakin' Weekend coverage, Yelawolf to return to Nashville & new music on the way from Chancellor Warhol.
Paul Simon to play to the Ryman, Kings of Leon headed to the Final Four, Ten out of Tenn want to give you an iPad & coverage of last night's I'm Still Beautiful Benefit Fashion show.
Jack White to stay single (from bands, that is) for a while, new music from PUJOL & the Mashville crew, and more bullshit about Ke$ha than you'll ever need to know in your entire life.

Along with the dirty guitars and guttural vocals of garage rock and punk music comes the staple raunchy song about sex. If you're the Winks, one song isn't enough (just read their track list ). Here are a few classics and recent favorites. And despite the Winks' unbelievably crude lyrics, there's no denying a catchy melody. No Bunny - "Do The Fuck (Yourself)" (from First Blood ) Diarrhea Planet - "Ghost With A Boner" (from Aloha! ) Replacements - "Gary's [...]
Ke$ha announces Beastie Boys cover, Jack White & Wanda Jackson do the Late Show , new music from Blastoids, D. Watusi & JEFF the Brotherhood, and bunch of Nashville concert updates including news on Sharon Van Etten, Ted Leo, the Kills & Interpol.

mp3: Diarrhea Planet - Ghost With A Boner Nashville noisemakers Diarrhea Planet sent me their 5-song EP, ALOHA! , a few weeks back. While it took time, this jam "Ghost With A Boner" has finally grown on me. It's silly, has no real lyrical substance to it (zilch, zero), but goddamn is it fun to listen to.

Not very much is known about this local group that seems to have just appeared in the spotlight out of nowhere. People have their panties quite bunched up about their SUPER CRAZZZZY NAME which makes me think a lot of them missed out on 3rd grade. Their shows live up to whatever pre-conceived notions you could come up with about whether you like them or not. Take the DP challenge and go see them live wherever they decided to play out next. After listening to their Debut E.P. "Aloha!" a couple times, It's become pretty clear [...]
