Two mix tapes in one week? Why, you must be the luckiest children on all the Internet! This should be a busy and exciting week, as I'll be leaving in a few hours to cover the NAB Show in Vegas. If you don't know what NAB is, well, you're not alone. I didn't really know [...]

During the first week of October I raised a very serious and very grave concern with my readers. A lot of us had trouble stomaching what I had to say, but I felt it necessary to both warn this audience about a gross disregard for the feelings of young people around the globe and also a gross act that could potentially be perpetrated in your state, town, or even your home. I speak, of course, about the issue of "Boomer Sex" - disgusting, old Baby Boomers engaging in sexual intercourse with each other. Oh God, I think I'm going to [...]
Nicci and I went to see the Bruno movie this evening. It was pretty alright. Nothing revelatory. There were a few laugh-out-loud funny scenes, but for the most part it was Borat -like and predictable. It's best parts were a result of pure shock value, but we got that with the first movie too. I'd say it's a good movie to see if you want to drop $15 on a movie ticket and you are in need a good laugh. Nicci's friend is in the film, he plays Bruno's pygmy boyfriend, Diesel. They share a ridiculous sex [...]
Along with the likes of SST, Chicago based label Touch & Go was the citadel of hardcore / punk / noise rock in the 80s, with such luminaries as Butthole Surfers, Big Black, Killdozer and Laughing Hyenas filling the label's roster. Unlike SST, however, the label didn't gave up its original direction and by the end [...]

Kurt from Maryland! Thank you for your donation! I will definitely write a Post-It note reminding me to seek out another copy of The Life & Times of Laddio Bolocko . As you can plainly see in the graphic above, I have hit a wall here, a little more than halfway through my fundraiser. With exactly one week (that's 7 days) remaining, I am still $197.45 short of my $350 goal. When I think about how many people look at this page today (~600), I begin to wonder -- isn't one of you in the "wealthiest 1%" [...]
Hey online friends, "what's up"? Me? I guess I'm doing fine. I have a gnawing pain in my stomach experts or scientists would probably define as hunger, and I have a lot of little errands to run today before work, but other than that I can't complain. I guess you're all hear because you're waiting for me to talk about the Mets, right? You want to know how it feels to be obsessed with a sports team at a time when that team literally could not be performing at a lower level. [...]
"Let's get this over with." -- Tom, deciding to get the party started after a 47-minute opening music set "Oh, good. Drinking and radio don't mix." -- Julie, approving of Tom's sobriety "I made fun of Mark & Mindy ? You didn't like that? You didn't find my Mark & Mindy joke funny?" -- Tom, inquiring about Jerry from Boulder's rejection of his ribbing "You don't sleep. You don't sleep! Stay haunted! You stay haunted by it! You don't think I'm [...]

See that picture above? Well, Dearest Friends, that's what it's been like around here of late, all swirly and rapido and pixilated and pixelated. December has been relentless on the work and home fronts, to the extent that once again Christmas is in danger of becoming Just Another Task to Accomplish. Shit, it's almost here and I can hear the pile of unfinished Seasons Greetings cards taunting me from downstairs. Ever since one horrible, horrible Christmas Eve several years ago spent frantically shopping amongst hordes on an infernal Oxford Street, I've ensured that my [...]

We were supposed to meet at the In-N-Out off the 405 in Inglewood this morning at 11:30, but the mysterious Craigslist seller who was trying to unload two high-powered fans changed our plans at the last minute. Our new meet-up point: beneath the underpass at the end of the Howard Hughes Parkway/Sepulveda exit. I'm not joking. If there's a single location less desirable for meeting a stranger than Inglewood, I'd have to say "beneath an underpass on a random highway exit" takes the prize. I sat in the shoulder for ten minutes, my car idled, hazard lights flashing, wondering exactly [...]

Fan of Less Than Jake's early stuff? Well then you're probably familiar with the song "Three Quarts Drunk". Inn the song, LTJ say they have a Didjits song in their head, which made me wonder for years, who the hell were the Didjits? Well, if it was good enough for (Pezcore) Less Than Jake, then it's good enough for me. MP3: Less Than Jake - Three Quarts Drunk Didjits - Agent 99 Didjits - Sick of My Fix Link: [...]
What's wrong, Ry-guy, people stopped taking you seriously because they realized just how unoriginal your sound is? Yeah, more like: Predator Uses Facebook to Finger Victim! I just finished a conversation with a friend who is moving to a new neighborhood, and I mentioned how the local hang-outs and eateries in that area are numerous. It got me thinking about how eating fast food all the time is a conundrum, because it's both super-tasty and unhealthily foul. I do not like to eat fast food (exceptions: In-N-Out, Chipotle/Qdoba), or at chain restaurants, [...]

You're imprisoned in what appears to be a tenth-rate Red Roof Inn room, with only a small bed, half-bath, and television. You know not who your captors are, or why you have been brought here. Every day you are fed the same dumplings, and ritualistically drugged. For fifteen years. No reason for your internment is every given. Then, one day, you wake up in the outside world. You are given a wallet filled with money and a cell phone. You are told you have five days to figure out why this has happened to you. This is where [...]
Ok, I'll jump on the bandwagon regarding Touch & Go's 25th anniversary. For me their best stuff have always been the early HC releases. I like some Scratch Acid. But Didjits was a... Punk | Powerpop | Mod | Hard Core
Two weeks ago I dedicated an entire radio show to Merge Records . This week (August 29, 2006) I dedicated the show to Touch and Go who are celebrating their 25th anniversary with a three day festival starting Friday September 8th in Chicago. All twenty-nine songs I played are right here as MP3s... PLAYING FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 8TH 1) !!! (Chk Chk Chk) - Hello? Is This Thing On? 2) Ted Leo & The Pharmacists - Where Have All The Rude Boys Gone?
