Your Heavy And Hard New Releases Bible! Rip It Up And We'll Prosecute!
I don't have any earthly idea why Twentieth Century Fox thought it would be a good idea to dust of John McClane for a fourth Die Hard movie. It wasn't any good, and just like the fourth Indiana Jones movie, promptly erased from the collective conscious of the franchise's fans. Still, money brought everyone back for a fifth time, which sees McClane yippy-kaying across Russia with his son. Pretty soon, McClane is going to be shooting nursing home terrorists, but that's a movie for another day. Remember when these movies were more than [...]

Google Die Hard and all you get are links to Bruce Willis movies. That’s not a bad thing if you’re in the mood for watching some of John McLane’s gun totting action. We were … well only for the first and third movies anyway. After that, we tried a little harder to find Glaswegian band Die Hard, who recently released their self-titled debut album. It was too hard, so we sent them a Call Back instead, Ryan answered the call. -We should also note the band have yet to disclose their surnames and have no band [...]

Welcome to the oddly fashioned world of Die Hard. You have to wonder what's going through the heads of these guys, it literally makes no sense and we completely love it. The album mixes clear sparkling production of instruments with sampled human and background noise – throwing a load of lase-like synths and marching layered downbeats on top. The first track, In The Garden , is very pretty and very strange. You don't expect gorgeous acoustic guitar and strings to be accompanied by a choir of menacing, distorted voices ... a creepy opener indeed. [...]
Glasgow's Die Hard release their self-titled debut album today and, in celebration, they've made a selection of tracks from that ... Continue reading

Would you care to introduce yourself? We are die hard, hello Peenko How would you describe the music you make? Weird pop. How did you start out making music? We've been friends for years, we probably liked each other cause we had the same taste in music. We then used to make mixtapes; see who had the strangest selection. I [...]

Someone really should have advised Die Hard to pick another name. Aside from the obvious references to the Bruce Willis action series, a quick Google search for “Die Hard band” brings up several different bands. One is a thrash metal band, one is a New York hardcore band, but neither of them sound anything like this Die Hard. This Die Hard are an ambient Scottish indie act, like the missing link between Sigur Ros and Belle & Sebastian. Their sound often relies on shimmering keyboards and, when there is singing, layered ethereal vocals, and [...]

Glasgow’s Die Hard are, by the sounds of things, something of a drugs band. Perhaps taking inspiration from Spacemen 3’s legitimately hilarious/excellently titled Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To , that’s precisely what they appear to have done here. It’s best that the word "appear" is stressed as this is such a brief, haphazard record one could be easily convinced that this is simply an approximation of that blissed-out stoner sound so many bands strive for – whether they’ve arrived at their version of it under the influence of Spiritualized or something [...]

MP3 : Sing Me Spanish Techno Diehard just released a 4-song covers EP, Old Habits , for free on their Bandcamp page. Fans who pledged at a high level of their Kickstarter campaign were able to request the songs chosen to be covered and now they've been collected for all the world to download . Their debut full length, The Times We Didn't Have Fun , is now available for "name your price". The band has some [...]
Right, I've been neglecting this poor blog. It's about time I started putting more stuff on it. And I have a plan to make that happen. I listen to a lot of new music, but I don't always get to write about the stuff I come across that I like in CMU because there's just too much of it - these days I don't write as much of the Approved column in CMU as I used to. Things pile up, the moment passes. And, if I'm honest, sometimes I just forget. So, my plan is to start pulling together [...]
Die Hard's sound is a blend of Glasgow's dark humour mixed with strong melodies + strange textures. Songs that ask questions about the telling of lies, revenge & lust. Formed in 2011, the band spent the first 9 months of the year writing + recording songs in their home studio in the city centre. As one of the highlights from Die Hard's eponymous debut, "Here Goes the Rage" encapsulates what they are about; ethereal strings + swirling acoustic guitar compliment a strong vocal, with a tale about getting mad [...]
It’s been a good year for Black Spiders . They released their debut album Sons Of The North , played a lot of festivals, toured in China and just came back from supporting Monster Magnet in Europe in time to send us a Christmas card . Busy boys. We caught up with frontman Pete Spiby to see how festive he’s feeling. -- What is your favourite Christmas song? ‘Mistletoe’ by Jesus Lizard. ‘You use mistletoe, you [...]
The Answer have had a pretty decent year. We caught up with singer Cormac Neeson to discuss some stupid Christmas stuff and he actually answered all the questions. What a trooper. -- What is your favourite Christmas song? I'm really sorry about this but I'm still a sucker for 'Feed The World' . Bob Geldof is an Irish bro you know. What is your favourite Christmas movie? Does Die Hard count?? [Most definitely - Ed] [...]
