Midwestern adventurous indie group Gayngs have announced their fall tour dates. The band consists of 23 musicians, giving The Polyphonic Spree a run for their money. But really, this is like an actual supergroup as it features P.O.S., Justin Vernon and Mike Noyce of Bon Iver, and three of the guys from Megafaun among many others. On the upcoming fall tour, ten of the twenty-plus contributors that appear on Gayngs debut, Relayted , will be there, including Justin Vernon and Mike Noyce, ringleader Ryan Olson (Building Better Bombs, Digitata), Zak Coulter and Adam Hurlburt of [...]
Local supergroup GAYNGS played two shows at First Avenue on Friday to excited crowds of Twin Citizens decked out in prom gear. The night was pretty perfect, and Prince even made a brief appearance (though he didn't play).
I first heard singer Maggie Morrison in the late, lamented Minneapolis band Digitata. (Well, they maybe broke up? This July interview with Digitata drummer Drew Christopher makes it unclear. But it's funny.) Morrison's new band Lookbook keeps some of Digitata's essential elements: bloops, bleeps, synthdrama. Lookbook - Yesterday's Company. This track comes from Lookbook's first full-length, Wild At Heart. It's a good record, and as much as I love Digitata, it's interesting to hear Morrison front a band more interested in keeping things on steady ground. (Digitata simply isn't designed for that, in my opinion, which is one reason...

Minneapolis electronic-duo Lookbook has dropped their long player, the delicious Wild At Heart , showing a bands maturing and ready to make the next step. With each listen you leave with a new favorite, vocalist Maggie Morrisson (Digitata) is a real talent and unique vocalist, think Raveonettes meet recent Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Morrisson and musical partner Grant Cultler have a nice chemistry. Lookbook's recent high profile shows with Solid Gold, Tapes N Tapes alone says the odds are in their favor. Also check their sexy -as-fuck video for "Over and Over". Their record release show for [...]

A good marketing ploy or the unfortunate truth?
Shots from last weekend's show at First Amendment Arts.

Digitata – Art Work Pays (Totally Gross National Product) The Minneapolis arty-electro trio Digitata quickly became beloved due to its dark electronic experiments and the amazing, passionate and soaring vocals of Maggie Morrison with muti-instrumentalist Ryan Olson and Drew Christopherson. After a hiatus of sorts, Morrison joined Grant Cutler and started a new downbeat project Lookbook, which also became toast of the town. Digitata got together for 4 days and came out with Art Work Pays , 9 new tracks that make up the follow-up to their 2006' s II [...]

Digitata have been on hiatus for awhile now. They re-united to record an album. Here is note about their first and possibly last show in a long time.. We are releasing it at an art show we are throwing for some friends at First Amendment Arts. the show is called "Sawdust City". These are the artists: Eric Lee - incredibly detailed "realist" paintings of decaying industrial settings. Uses gunpowder too. some of them are HUGE. David Jensen - abstract paintings made with a huge variety of materials, i believe mostly from the construction [...]

Download : Mel Gibson & The Pants - "Stress Fracture w/Mictlan" Download : Mel Gibson & The Pants - "Crosby Steals Nash And Runs" While a band name like Mel Gibson & The Pants (Was something like The Helen Hunt For Red October too subtle?) may suggest goof-pop along the lines of Let's Get Out Of This Terrible Sandwich Shop , the dark, otherworldly sonic textures and minor-key guitar line of "Where It Hurts" suggest that Totally Gross National Product act Mel Gibson [...]

Look, I know how it is. You had a good weekend, but it wasn't exactly as exciting as you had hoped. You were gonna go out and drink PBR with your friends, but instead you sat on your couch watching TBS. Then on Sunday your toilet overflowed and you had to cancel brunch plans. No beer, no omelets, no fun. It was sad. Well, here's your second chance to have an awesome weekend. Robots alumnae and good friends The Subjects are coming to Minneapolis tonight, and the lineup is, how you say, fucking solid. Music For Robots proudly presents The...
Music (For Robots) alumnae Digitata had a good debut record. It wasn't earth-shattering, it wasn't trailblazing, and it wasn't perfect - instead, it was a solid start that hinted of better things to come. I am pleased to say that the better things have arrived. Digitata - You Best Believe Me. The Minneapolis-based Digitata consists of three people - vocalist/keyboardist Maggie Morrison, drummer Drew Christopherson, and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Olson - and they each bring a unique ingredient to their new album, II Daggers. Their label, Totally Gross National Product, is also home to the better-known Mel Gibson And The Pants,...
