I don't know about you, but I can't think of a more awkward time in my life than when I was in high school. Thankfully, my awkward times in high school can't even compare to those of Jenna Hamilton from MTV's teenage comedy Awkward . Starring Ashley Rickards as the super ill-fated Jenna, Awkward follows the craziness that poor Jenna just can't avoid as she chases her dream boy. The show is like PG version of the American Pie series crossed with My So Called Life , filled with plenty of hilarious [...]

Dinosaur Feathers have been active in the NYC scene for quite some time now, but their peculiarly colorful pop hasn't lost any of the exuberance of their beginnings. Single 'Untrue' (off their latest record Whistle Tips) is something Franz Ferdinand might have made if they spent some time surfing in Mali. The band just released a new track, 'New Frontier', on Unhabitable Mansion's latest compilation 'Torrential Zen', which also features songs by Fatty Acids, Sat. Night Duets & Radical Dads. Read a Q&A with the band here .
Paul Gagnon Brooklyn-based rockers Shark? claim to cause fuzzy memories of midnight taco runs and drunken revelry -- and they're actually telling the truth. The band recently set sail across the U.S., smashing stomp boxes and playing to fans all over this fair nation. Thankfully, these bearded beer drinkers got the best bits of their tour on tape for their newest video "Down Low."
I would never have picked Dinosaur Feathers to open for the Jesus and Mary Chain in a million years, but it worked well. Of course, I'm coming to the JAMC show from the indie-rock side of their influence, so it made sense that I'd enjoy the band. They had a Menomena-like level of individual talent [...]

Visiting the parents is often a stressful time. Despite their incessantly busy schedules, they have actually learned to relax in retirement despite their hectic lifestyle. I visited them two weekends ago now. Hence the absence of an August 17 radio show recap; there was none. Instead, I participated in my brother's wedding. Having just one brother, this was a first. And I'm very excited to have a new sister. He and Diane dated five years before their engagement, just like Andi and myself. (Their engagement story, [...]

Before Grizzly Bear drops their own harmony-soaked full-length later this year, be sure to check out the band just as in touch with the rhythm of the rising tide, and all set to compliment your next beach volleyball game better than mopey Ed Droste ever could anyway. Dinosaur Feathers' new single 'Untrue' (streaming below, off just-released record 'Whistle Tips') is something Franz Ferdinand might have made if they spent some time surfing in Mali. The album as a whole feels like the band mic'ed a barbeque and recorded the site live... Another standout is the [...]

Photo credit: Andrew St. Clair The streets of Williamsburg belonged to musicians, even more than normal, for the four days that the Northside Festival staked its ground. There was a constant bustle of badge-clad press agents, photographers, managers and agents in addition to guitarists toting their instruments and lead singers trailed by groupies. Booze was certainly also flowing freely. At Good Co. on Hope Street, Jameson hosted a party featuring their whiskey and McClure’s pickle juice. A young lady I met at the bar admitted, “I’m [...]

photos by Amanda Hatfield The Olivia Tremor Control at MHOW - 6/16/12 The Olivia Tremor Control played Music Hall of Williamsburg on Saturday, June 16 as part of the Northside Festival. The band's 20-song set hit most of the favorites from their late-'90s heyday when the band were part of the influential Elephant 6 collective (Setlist is below). Fellow E6 associate Jeff Mangum was in the audience. The OTC next play the Pitchfork [...]
As though you didn’t already have enough on your calendar for the summer (Food fairs! Music festivals! Outdoor movies!), there’s even more live music vying for your attention this weekend. The fourth annual Northside Festival kicks off on Thursday night and provides a prime opportunity to discover great new bands right here in Brooklyn, an area rife with them. Music is only one aspect of this eight-day affair, founded by brothers Scott and Daniel Stedman (who launched L Magazine ); there is also visual art, panels on entrepreneurship, and a full-fledged indie film festival/competition [...]
Following the release of their new Sophomore album, "Whistle Tips," Dinosaur Feathers have hit the road with Margot and The Nuclear So and So's. Brooklyn natives, DF is steadily climbing up the indie rock ladder with their catchy guitar riffs and awesome harmonized vocals. Also they are just cool dudes. While playing The Bootleg Theatre last night in Los Angeles, they played their songs with high energy and intensity, but in between songs they casually sipped beers and chatted with the audience. Thus proving they can kick it. Dinosaur [...]

Whistle Tips è il secondo album del quartetto di Brooklyn Dinosaur Feathers (dopo l’esordio del 2010 con Fantasy Memorial), uscito per Ernest Jenning ad Aprile - eccone due estratti:
