Small Black - "Despicable Dogs" ; Music blogs across the country are debating what to call this whole "new" genre of music and I'm totally staying out of the fray. It's another version of the lo-fi movement just a bit happier and sunnier then shit like Times New Viking. That doesn't merit a new name or much else unless there's something substantial to it. This is not one of those songs. It's light, cute, and summery, but not worthy of a whole new genre of music. At least not one so many people should be paying so much [...]

A few photos from last night's show at the M Room which featured an amazing performance by Dinosaur Feathers and an absolutely captivating solo set by Joe Michelini of River City Extension . Big thanks to the bands, everyone who came out, and especially to Emma of The World In A Paper Cup for co-hosting the party. If you weren't there you missed some fantastic music. Dinosaur Feathers [...]
by fiyoki (pics by andre salyer & marina meyer) So in case you missed it, we threw an absolute barn burner on Friday night for the first ever QC fundraiser. Temperatures were topping out in the 80's and the open bar ran for over 5 hours so the vibe was pure lunacy by midnight. Dancers in jumpsuits, water and beer fights, and 4 amazing live performances helped this party live up to expectations. We took in $1,500 worth of site donations and gave away countless prizes from wine [...]
While most of ya'll are probably heading over to Pitchfork Fest this weekend [which was my first fest of choice this year...I chose Lolla instead], there are still some pretty happening shows in Philadelphia that are totally worth checking out. Here's a nice little list of the local goods/tour stops in the city of brotherly love for this weekend: FRIDAY: Greg Laswell @ The M Room * Micachu & The Shapes @ Wolrd Cafe Live * Drink Up Buttercup + The Armchairs @ Danger [...]

Come on out to the party this Sunday Night at M Room in Philadelphia when Bag Of Songs along with our new friend Emma from The World In A Paper Cup bring you two amazing bands. First up, Emma's pick is Brooklyn's super cool Dinosaur Feathers who whip up a mix of layered percussion, acoustic guitars and keyboards, along with overlapping harmony vocals that'll have you hooked from the word go. If you're digging bands like Animal Collective , Yeasayer , Fleet Foxes, or Grizzly Bear , you'll want in [...]
by the QC Staff As a non-profit music we've never asked for a kickback before. This is what you get for $10 on Friday night, not to mention a few other surprises. These bands will set a ridiculous vibe for the evening. Enban [...]
Will Stratton: Superhero Name (aka Greg of Dinosaur Feathers): pow wow!: Gutsies: I'm Turning Into: Los Basement:
I recently blogged about Dinosaur Feathers after their show at Shea Stadium. I saw them again last Friday night, and their performance at Webster Hall's totally weird basement space, The Studio, has forced me to blog about them again. Their joyously strong vocals and nice-guy demeanor make them instantly likable, not to mention the fact that they have some really, really good songs. Mark my words, these guy are going to be big if they keep at it. They sound like a mix between Ruby Suns and Fleet Foxes (especially in [...]
Monday: Sharon Van Etten @ City Winery 9pm $12 This has been a very good year for a couple of the better Brooklyn bands out there. Bands like The Antlers, Here We Go Magic, and now Sharon Van Etten have grown in leaps and bounds with their new releases and have finally started to garner the attention they deserve. Tonight you can check out what all the fuss is about by watching Sharon and listening to her incredible voice. It's a damn fine way to start off a week. Sharon Van Etten - [...]

So, I was able to catch Browns' show at the narrow slice of venue that is Bruar Falls . A part of Northside Fest , the show was at 3pm on a Sunday. It was not crowded. The Coney Island was delicious. There was a projection of Flash Gordon playing behind the band (which you cannot make out in my shitty photo below). The music was loud, but not too loud. I was pissed that I had missed them play at that Obits show a [...]
Monday: So Cow + Free Energy @ The Bell House 7:30pm $5 I have yet to catch the wave on either of these much blogged about bands.
