Tonight I hit the kitchen to compile the second FensePost podcast, or FenseCast, while cooking up one of my signature dishes: spicy steak enchiladas with homemade sauce. For desert, a delicious slice of gluten free cake courtesy Andi (the girlfriend), whose photo you can see above. Unlike the first podcast, this one had a range of bands that stemmed into several genres rather than focusing on garage rock and pop. Within I reminisce on one of my favorite bands of all time, occasionally hover around bedroom pop, and pass along one imperative ingredient in my homemade enchilada [...]

Rollo & Grady is heading to Austin later this week. Almost 2000 bands are participating this year at South By Southwest, and deciding which shows to attend can be overwhelming. After sampling roughly 1200 bands, we selected 200 bands to check out. Many of these artists we've covered in the past, but we've also discovered several new groups that we're excited to share with you. Tomorrow we're highlighting 23 artists that we feel will generate the biggest buzz at (and after) the festival. Adam Green (Myspace) [...]

In case you hadn't noticed, Dinosaur Feathers have become one of our favorite local bands over the last year or so. Their tropics-tinged pop is as infectious as it is impressively-crafted - qualities that were well-captured on their previously released singles and EPs. But the band's just released first full-length, Fantasy Memorial , brings along the infectiousness and craftsmanship and adds skillful scope to the mix, presenting a collection of ten songs that could each easily stick in your head for days at a time and, presented together, seem to meld into a [...]
Currently dominating my playlist is NY band Dinosaur Feathers' new record Fantasy Memorial. They playfully channel the vocal heavy, world music influenced pop that's so in style right now into some of the catchiest, most dancinest pop songs I've heard in 2010. "Dancinest" is a word, right? It should be. mp3: "Vendela Vida" by Dinosaur Feathers [...]

I just spent the last week tucked away in the remote Mexican coastal village of Yelapa . No computers, no cars, lots of tacos, donkeys, various insects, isolated beaches, and excellent company. We rented a place at Casas Isabel which amounted to an arrangement of cement platforms covered by palm fronds that some might call a casita, but I thought of as a vast jungle porch. We had a kitchen, an outdoor shower, a hammock, scorpion issues, and a fantastic view of the Pacific ocean. I read the short stories of ZZ [...]

Last year, Dinosaur Feathers impressed me with their superior experimental style. Somewhere between electronic and pop, the band mixed styles familiar to bands like Animal Collective and Yeasayer, thanks to clever somewhat barbershop-quartet-like harmonies and tribal beats. They're back this month with Fantasy Memorial , their debut LP and follow-up to Early Morning Risers EP . "Vendela Vida" is off the new album and it has hints of a Latin-influenced shuffle while remaining true to the sounds they defined on last year's EP. This song is further proof at [...]

Much like the heralded debut from Girls , Dinosaur Feathers' Fantasy Memorial has influences rooted in 50's and 60's pop music. What makes the music pop are the unique rhythms and percussion that propels the music forward with vigor. Lead singer Greg Sullo spent some time in Mali and those ethnic elements seep in throughout their debut. In fact, on the first song, you are greeted with the sounds of birds from Mali's desert. In my email correspondence with Greg, he mentioned that the songs on the album are about falling in and out of [...]

The intro to Insound's write-up couldn't be any better: "Dinosaur Feathers may come from Brooklyn, but the roots of their music can be traced to spots across the globe." Their newest album, Fantasy Memorial , has it all. Weaving african influenced beats, latin vibes and good old American beach boy harmonies. Here's the opening track to a 10-song LP that you won't be able to ignore. MP3 :: Dinosaur Feathers - I Ni Sogoma Fantasy Memorial will be out next Tuedsay, March 2nd. [...]

I went to three concerts in three days last week. I've done it before, but never before have I had THIS much fun. On my final night, I ventured into Brooklyn to see Dinosaur Feathers . I'd hear some of their music before, but since they've yet to release an album, my experiences listening to them are limited. The gig was at the Sycamore in the Flatbush-Ditmas Park area. It took a brutal walk in the freezing cold to get there, but as I was [...]
