Remember last month when we made a hand-wringing post about the death of the MP3 and thereby the end of the downloadable Monthly Mix? Well, fuck it - ZIP FILE BACK. Thank you for your comments and opinions! This is blog-in-action. But, we know some of you enjoyed the ease and increased songchoice represented by our Spotify playlist, and so guess what SPOTIFY BACK too. And we ALSO realize some of you can't/won't access Spotify but also want to see a playlist that isn't limited just to MP3s because that can be arbitrarily restrictive with respect to the [...]

Dinosuar Jr. takes Phoenix's rambunctious "Entertainment" and turns it into an awesome Dinosaur Jr. song. You know what we mean.
Dinosaur Jr. Jr. are back with a new single and it's a beauty. Turns out, it's just the beginning and a new EP is on the way. "If You Didn't See Me (Then You Weren't On The Dancefloor)", on top of having a great title, is a pretty spectacular 802s synth piece for the modern indie pop fan. There's a whole hell of a lot to love here. A great chorus combined with all kinds of blips and darting electronic sounds dominate the track, along with quiet bass that has just enough oomph to add to "If You [...]
First J Mascis put a pretty stupefied spin on Phoenix' Entertainment, and now the buck stops with Dev Hynes, aka Lightspeed Champion, aka Blood Orange who, in a bizarre twist of fate, has roped in dejected onetime Sugababes Mutya Keisha Siobhan to chip in some almost unfeasibly impeccable pop harmonies on what aurally resembles a cut and paste patchwork quilt of contemporary musical culture. From the princely Purple Rain guitar solo the middle eight comes showered in, to the humid R'n'B rhythmic agitation, the primordial Balearic mating calls à la Crystal Fighters as the [...]
It sounds like an unlikely thing: “Dinosaur Jr covers Phoenix”. Especially if you word things as Phoenix has and call it a ‘remix’ (when I hear the word ‘remix’ I think of laptops, not old guys with guitars). But either way, it happened and it’s great. And to top things off, the Dinosaur Jr interpretation is a free download (you can also listen to the original Phoenix version … which, if you ask me, now sounds like it is totally lacking in tasty guitar riffs and not chilled out enough vocals). But then I am a [...]

In a strange turn of events Dinosaur Jr. have covered Phoenix's new single "Entertainment." If you could have predicted this one, you should look into a new profession. They're dubbing it a remix, but this is a straight cover folks. Dino Jr. take the song and slow it down creating a more somber version. Grab a download below. With their album (plus 71 more tracks) coming along later on this Spring, Phoenix are giving away a special remix of their song "Entertainment". You can download it here for free today! Follow / [ FACEBOOK] Tickets / Phoenix @ Shepherds Bush Empire, April 22nd
It's Friday afternoon, which means that we’re counting down to beer o'clock, and amusing ourselves during these long beerless hours by recapping all the best music we heard during the past week. Happily, there's plenty of good stuff to stream — most notably, there's the new Savages song, which is many many kinds of awesome and augurs very well indeed for their debut album. There's also the John Vanderslice "Diamond Dogs" cover that we premiered earlier this week, most excellent remixes of Kendrick Lamar and Phoenix, new songs from Cold Cave and Stephin Merritt, the entire new Flaming Lips album [...]

The top mp3s have gone through many incarnations since the beginning of Consequence of Sound in 2007. What used to be an exhaustive roundup of all the singles, remixes, covers, and undiscovered gems emailed to us any given week evolved into a compilation whittled down to our 10 favorite new songs. For 2013, we’re again changing up the format with the hope of giving our selections some added weight. We’re still posting about our 10 favorite songs, but they’ll be ordered in quality from 10-1. Who takes home #1 this week? You’ll have to click ‘Next’ to find [...]

In this week's totally random news, Dinosaur Jr. have covered Phoenix . Yes, I know the artwork up above says remix, but that's not right. Actually, it's probably more a of cover-remix hybrid. Or something. At any rate, Dinosaur Jr. are currently touring around in support of the LP they put out last year, and Phoenix is about to release a new album titled Bankrupt! on April 23. Enjoy. : Dinosaur Jr. - Entertainment (Phoenix Cover) : Phoenix's original version is a pretty fun track, but I think I prefer Dinosaur Jr.'s slow [...]

Dinosaur Jr - Entertainment [Phoenix Cover] Tweet

Roger Kisby You can probably blame the entire music industry's post-SXSW hangover for this week's roundup of concert announcements being a little late and a little lean. But there were still some. And here they are. While I believe the official status of The Fiery Furnaces is that they're a going concern, it's pretty clear that the burner that they're on is pretty far back. Since they finished touring 20092s presciently-titled I'm Going Away , both Friedberger siblings have busied themselves in solo form. Matthew Friedberger released [...]
Happy Spring everyone! To kick this season off right, we added some high quality remixes from some of our favorite artists, which includes Dinosaur Jr. and Teen Daze. We're also combining coming releases with recently passed ones. Phoenix , who are ... Read More

J Mascis , the lead singer and brilliant guitarist of Dinosaur Jr. , has always taken a different approach toward things and is definitely an original guy. Whether the legendary rocker is releasing an album with Hindu priests or reuniting his teenage band after 25 years, J keeps it fresh. The latest example of this is Dinosaur Jr.'s "remix" of Phoenix 's mega-hit Entertainment . The song is certainly a cover and not a remix, but I think we can all appreciate the little slice of humor [...]

photo by Ron Henry The darkwave music project of Wesley Eisold, Cold Cave , has released a new single from the two-track EP Oceans With No End . True to Eisold's style, "People are Poison" is a blend of pessimistic lyrics and raving synthesized percussion. The song even ends with the depressing sound of rainfall and, unless you possess the strong resolve of a Seattleite, that is sure to damper anyone's mood. I guess I have to applaud Cold Cave's dedication to melancholy. Now, that's ironic. [ CoS ] [...]
