While the music world anxiously awaits Phoenix's forthcoming album Bankrupt! at the end of April, rockers Dinosaur Jr have given us something refreshing to made the wait a little more bearable. The band has reworked Phoenix's lead single and the result is something that sounds entirely brand new. Stripped down and noticeably slower, Dinosaur Jr have made the energetic production into a much more emotional experience that seems to work just as convincingly as the original. Mascis listening to Versailles' Phoenix , however, it would seem that he's been really digging them as he's knocked out a cover of 'Entertainment' from upcoming album, Bankrupt! . It's tough to say why Phoenix are selling Dinosaur Jr.'s cover of their new song " Entertainment " as a remix rather than a straight-up cover; as far as I can tell, Dino Jr. keep no elements of Phoenix's original version of the song intact. Instead, J Mascis turns their gleaming, precision-engineered pop song into a slow, gorgeously stoned contemplation, replete with quietly blazing guitar solo. As fans of Jack White, The Clash, and Ryan Adams can all attest , sometimes the cover version proves far better than the original. Such is the case for Dinosaur Jr.' s reworking of the new Phoenix single, "Entrainment" . Maybe it's just the early morning fog, but J. Mascis whining "Entertainment / Show them what you do with me / When everyone here knows better" just feels more convincing. And those dirty guitar solos, they're just great.
