I've listened to a lot of loud music in my lifetime, and never once has Henry Rollins appeared to me in a hazy pink mist wearing a shirt and tie only to beat the living shit out of me. That can only mean one thing, I've obviously not been listening to my music loud enough. So it looks like its about that time to go out and buy the most powerful car stereo speakers I can find like my buddy used to have in his geo metro, hook em up to my car and just pump bass because [...]
Ha! Check out the celebrity filled video for Pierce the Morning Rai n! Also, be sure to watch J Mascis on an upcoming episode of IFC's Portlandia, Friday, January 25th at 10pm ET.
Dinosaur Jr. don't show up in their video for "Pierce The Morning Rain," a bleary jam from their 2012 album I Bet On Sky . Instead, director Scott Jacobson gives us actor James Urbaniak playing a suburban dad who becomes addicted to blasting music through massive subwoofers, mostly because that bass makes him feel like he's fighting Henry Rollins. Comedian Maria Bamford plays his wife, who isn't sure what to make of the whole thing. Any music video where Rollins gets to throw headbutts is worth a few minutes of your time; check it out below. Dinosaur Jr. returns with yet another star-studded video supporting their latest album, I Bet on Sky . In "Pierce the Morning Rain", director Peter Jacobson ( The Daily Show , Bob's Burgers ) captures actor James Urbaniak ( Homeland , American Splendor ) as he tries to find the perfect way to experience, well, the Amherst veterans' music. Along the way, we meet Urbaniak's wife (played by Maria Bamford) and the unforgiving fists of a surreal psychopath (ahem, Henry Rollins). "Volume is definitely a part of what they do, [...]

Team b32s favorite crust merchants Dinosaur Jr. are hitting the road in the UK later this month. Along with the tour announcement, the band are releasing a further single from last year's very nice I Bet on Sky LP, "Don't Pretend You Didn't Know". The new single stays relatively tight to the typical D Jr. lane with maybe a bit more reliance on tighter song structures and syncopations. Dinosaur Jr. UK Tour Dates: (If you're not in Manchester or Leeds, sucks.) Jan 30 Glasgow - Arches SOLD OUT [...]

For this spotlight we chatted with John Pastore and Dave Sweetapple of Outer Battery Records, a New York and Vermont based label home to releases by Dinosaur Jr., Heavy Blanket, Sweet Apple, White Hills, The Obsessed and more. 2012 saw the label debut from these childhood friends and seasoned music ...

Boston psych-pop veterans Guillermo Sexo Wednesday (yes, Wednesday) release a short set of new material that crackles with vitality, the three-song Bring Down Your Arms EP. The collection is a harbinger of the quartet's forthcoming fifth full-length, which is titled Dark Spring and will (appropriately) be released later this spring. The first two tracks of the EP, the strummer "All Whispers" and the more mysterious "Echo Out My Call," were initially intended for a double A-side digital single, but fortunately for fans the band decided more is in fact more and created the EP. [...]
All of the big year end lists are in, but I've decided to take my own whack at the best songs of 2012! I won't bore you with a huge introduction this week. You know what these lists are about. I'm counting down my favorite songs of 2012. It was a strange [...]

2012 was an odd year for me musically, and I largely blame Spotify. The only physical musical media I buy these days is the LP, and I really only do that to help touring bands that I like and to buy reissues of my favorite albums. I still buy a lot of digital-only releases too, but when it comes to actually listening to music, I tend to rely mainly on Spotify. (Or a few specific radio shows .) Especially at work. And that's a problem, at least in terms [...]

2012...what a year of music. We got new releases from favorites such as Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear and heard new favorites in Father John Misty, Nude Beach, Tanlines, and more. Last year Earbuddy celebrated one year of existence with the best 50 albums of 2011 . However, we've grown since [...]

Carlie Armstrong So here's one last housecleaning post before basically winding down for the holidays. Which isn't to say I won't pop back next week, but let's not assume so. Happily, Yo La Tengo have made it easy to wrap things up - whereas most quiet down in December, the trio traditionally have their busiest run of the year thanks to their eight-night run of Hannukah shows at Maxwell's in Hoboken. The combination of a tiny room and ridiculously cool opening acts and special guests have made the events instant sellouts, so those of [...]

We've spent this week doing more figurative wrapping up of the year than we have literally wrapping golds, frankincenses and myrrhs, with both our Shows of 2012 and Records of 2012 features now alive and kicking, even if this year itself only has less than a couple weeks left in its legs. Here's hoping you've been able to vicariously experience evenings from the former category through us if you couldn't make them for whatever reason, though it's the latter that we're here centralising our attentions upon. As documentations of a determined time, records are the one [...]
