Nice weather is right around the corner. Know how I know? 'Cause so many bands are loading up their tour buses and vans and hitting the road. To which I say woo hoo! Some are doing club shows, others are gearing up larger venues including festivals (Hello Coachella and Sasquatch!), and there's something for everyone. Hopefully this list will inspire you to get off your couch and check out some of these bands live. We all need a little rock n' roll to make us feel good. If you have additions to the list [...]

Photos of Dinosaur Jr on the Bug tour, which started with an interview from the one and only Henry Rollins.

Facebook Sometimes I wonder if Mates Of State get tired of being described with various synonyms for "adorable", but if so they've no one to blame but themselves. Rather than release the black metal opus we all know they have in them, the husband-and-wife duo of Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel continue releasing records of irresistibly sweet and catchy drum-and-organ power pop, a trend that seems set to continue with the September 13 release of Mountaintops , their first album of original material since 20082s Re-Arrange Us [...]
Dinosaur Jr. with OFF! and an interview conducted by Henry Rollins at The Paradise Rock Club, Boston, on Wednesday, June 22, 2011. The 'play your entire LP' meme pretty much had a shark jump moment over two years ago when Clutch of all bands decided to parade their debut LP in front of a heavy throng of mouth breathers but the trend really shows no signs of waning. Dinosaur Jr.'s no stranger this, having previously played their sophomore effort ( You're Living All [...]
Funny World we live in when a group as unconventional as the Flaming Lips decides to follow a trend. But that's what they're doing at Ally Pally on Friday June 1 when they perform their 'Soft Bulletin' album in its entirety. The live back-catalogue-album show may be conventional nowadays but that doesn't stop the Lips performing 'Soft Bulletin' sounding like the gig of the year so far (after Sufjan Stevens' recent, wonderful and strangely Flaming Lips-esque, Royal Festival Hall gigs of course). And to prove that the Lips haven't really gone soft they've managed to put their own twist on the back-catalogue-album live [...]

Photo by Brantley Gutierrez Dinosaur Jr. FRIDAY, JUNE 24 After ending an eight-year hiatus in 2005, Dinosaur Jr. released two albums, but their current five-stop tour (which started in their hometown of Northampton, Mass.) will only be featuring their third album, Bug —the whole grungy, feedback-filled, '90s alt-rock masterpiece in its entirety. The band toured in support of its last two albums, but this tour is undoubtedly crafted [...]

The Dinosaur Jr. boys have been playing 19882s Bug in its entirety the last few days. Turns out, it's not because the landmark LP holds a special place in frontman J Mascis' heart. In fact, he recently revealed that it kind of makes him cringe in multiple interviews: It's kind of like, it has bad connotations to me, I don't really like it that much. It's like my least favorite album. It just reminds me of a bad time [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Q + A Gitte Johannessen J Mascis is a paradox: Incredibly quiet and reserved when speaking but louder than a meteor as the guitar-wielding frontman of greatly celebrated rock trio Dinosaur Jr . In celebration of the quickly sold-out purple cassette reissue of its 1988 album 'Bug,' the band will are playing a series of stateside shows that will see Henry Rollins [...]

Thurston at MHOW in May ( more by Dana (distortion) Yavin ) Dinosaur Jr. kicked off their "Bug" tour last night at Calvin Theatre in Northampton, MA with support from Northampton resident Thurston Moore who played his "Demolished Thoughts"-heavy set before Henry Rollins took the stage for a live interview of the headliners (which was followed by a set of spoken word). A friend and casual fan texted me during the Whole Children benefit show: "Henry Rollins just interviewed dino jr [...]
J Mascis is a man of few words, which makes interviews with him both fascinatingly rare and pointlessly awkward. It's pretty clear at this point that the Dinosaur Jr mainman would prefer to... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .

I like my music like I like my summer: distorted, loud and full of gain. Fans of Dinosaur Jr.'s classic album Bug have everything to gain because you have a chance to hear it in it's entirety this Saturday (6/25) at 9:30 Club . This is the album that brought the Dino boys to the mainstream and sparked the wave of indie that ravaged the early '9os and the boom boxes of every crush-worthy skater boy. If hearing [...]

There's a huge batch of new releases this week. Some highly anticipated indie records out. For starters, Frenchkiss has got 1,2,3 's debut album, DFA (though distributed through EMI) has got Shangri-La from YACHT (pictured), and The Show Is the Rainbow self-releases Tickled Pink , which has a cover that we just couldn't bring ourselves to show on this site. Don't forget Jagjaguwar putting out the new one from Bon Iver , Dinosaur Jr. 's Bug getting a cassette release, and many more. Of course, we also can't [...]

Photo by Brantley Gutierrez THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Dinosaur Jr. w/ OFF! Sunday, June 26 Variety Playhouse - 1099 Euclid Avenue in Atlanta 30307 Admission $28.50 ADV / $30.50 DOS / Purchase Tickets As much as Dinosaur Jr. gets tossed into the discussion as a bastion for the '90s grunge and alt-rock revolution (as well as they should be), we would do well to remember that much of their most innovative and incendiary material — [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive Roger Kisby, Getty Images When discussing the origins of the modern lo-fi movement, Lou Barlow 's name is sure to come up. By fronting the influential indie group Sebadoh and playing bass for Dinsosaur Jr . with J Mascis , he has cultivated this now-trendy genre through hours of four-track recordings since the early '80s. Nowadays, he admits he [...]

J Mascis - Circle (Daytrotter Session) Ever since I came across an acoustic take on 'Get Me' , I've been a bigger fan of J Mascis when everything is 'turned down' a bit (of course the acoustic version of 'Get Me' would not be as bad ass if it didn't have that electric guitar knocking the solo out of the atmosphere). Don't get me wrong, I still dig good old fashioned, grunged out Dinosaur Jr; it's just that J's fragile, cracky voice seems to fit so much nicer with [...]
Lots to add to your list. Keep an ear out for the Beck -produced track from Stephen Malkmus (LP out 8/23), released just in time for Weinergate to, uh, expose itself. Enjoy thoroughly.
