TMZ reports that 18-year-old Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, has been rushed to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles Sunday (Feb. 12). Circumstances of her admittance are yet unknown, but sources say emergency the "Someone Like You" cover singer was spotted arguing with police after being refused entrance to the site of her mother's death yesterday. Dionne Warwick, cousin of Whitney Houston, was also turned away at the scene.
The iconic singer leaves behind a rich legacy.

Sometimes, when I'm wide awake in dreamland (to quote the title of one of Pat Benatar's '80s albums, her final one to go gold), I fantasize about a world where Benatar is a chart superstar again. But that's one dream that won't likely be coming true. I once had a conversation with a publicist for EMI Records, an affiliate of Benatar's then-label, Chrysalis Records (a publicist who, incidentally, later married Curt Smith from Tears for Fears, speaking of comebacks that would be most welcome) right around the time that Benatar's 1993 Gravity's Rainbow album flopped. [...]
Sartorially speaking, I've come a long way since the '80s. But then, haven't we all? While my older brother Jeff was rocking a blend of Ready for the World and Purple Rain , Jheri curl and all (he and his friends entered a high-school "air band" contest as Prince and the Revolution performing "Let's Go Crazy" but lost to a bunch of toga-wearing future frat boys mouthing the Isley Brothers' "Shout"), I was going for something a little more uptown elegant. My personal fashion icon: soul singer Jeffrey Osborne, whose [...]

I just wrote an article for my Ourstage "Sound And Vision" column on "Why the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Is on the Verge of Becoming a Joke," and it got me thinking about the most egregious omissions overall. For the next few years, they should skip the nominating process and focus on righting ongoing wrongs by automatically inducting the most glaringly overlooked acts. Once they're in, then the Hall of Fame should focus on other ways of fixing the induction process. First, they need to decrease the number of annual inductees (three performers [...]
Here she comes -- again. At least once a year, without fail, for a week or two, sometimes three, Dusty Springfield re-enters heavy rotation on my iPod. And as of this morning, she's back on repeat. Despite my annual Dusty revival, my Dusty devotion is nowhere near as over-the-top as it was when I lived in New York City and my friend Declan and I would spend hours in East Village bars singing her greatest hits as boy-on-boy duets. He thought it was a shame that she never got around to covering "The Tracks [...]

Los Angeles Times (MCT) -- LOS ANGELES - Dionne Warwick hit the top of the charts in 1985 alongside Steve Wonder, Elton John and Gladys Knight with "That's What Friends Are For," a rousing ode to friendship. One of the key lines of the song spoke of sticking together "through the good times and the bad times." But some fans of NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice" feel the legendary songstress may be singing a different tune these days, given her "firing" following...

"What, the show for kids?" my colleague, the one with an extravagant collection of adidas tracksuit jackets, replied when I asked if she watched Glee . It's a regular prejudice to confuse Glee with High School Musical , and therefore to presume that the interpretations of the songs covered on Glee must be intrinsically inferior to their originals. The former presumption can be ascribed to benign ignorance; the latter claim can be made only by people who hate music. Fact is, in many cases the Glee versions are equal to their originals, [...]

S he's still alive, and may she remain that way for years to come. For weeks, the media had been buzzing with reports that Aretha Franklin was suffering from pancreatic cancer (in late December several outlets even erroneously ran obituaries!), but several days ago, the Queen of Soul publicly denied that she has cancer. I hope that whatever forced her to undergo surgery on December 2 and cancel all of her concert appearances through May is not life threatening and that a full recovery is underway. Perhaps new music will be forthcoming, too, as [...]

Considering that the list for "Celebrity Apprentice" was released last night, perhaps Donald Trump should've taken Lindsay Lohan . But I digress. He opted to reject the rehabbed actress in favor of some rather D-list celebs. Lovely. At least with Lindsay on board, people might've watched, right? Instead of Lindsay, he chose these wonderful people to vie for his money on the show: La Toya Jackson Gary Busey David Cassidy [...]

[ EDITORIAL NOTE: At one time, I regularly posted music on this blog. I was informed that I was in danger of having this turn into a music blog, instead of one broadly focusing on pop culture. Having lately browsed through my massive record collection and recognized that I have a lot of rare and obscure works, I will reapply myself to the music, since I think I have something unique to offer in that area. Let me know what you think.] Dionne Warwick occupies an odd space in pop music. On paper, you'd [...]

I was at a cookout yesterday and Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff's "Summertime" came on. There really is no such thing as having an event during the season without hearing this and other classic summertime songs. So, right on time for the 4th, Mick Boogie Undrcrwn and Jeff teamed up to create this mixtape with almost 50 hits from De la Soul to Quincy Jones. Audible goodness for days. Check out the tracklist after the jump. Faze-O-Riding High Download audio [...]

Dionne Warwick : (There's) Always Something There To Remind Me [ purchase ] Three-minute pop songs were a hallmark of the 60's – the length suited AM radio demands, for one thing. Here's a tune from a pair of songwriters who met working in the NYC Brill Building, a music producing center since the 30's. Burt Bacharach, composer and pianist, teamed up with Hal David, who wrote the lyrics, and together they penned dozens of hits for Dusty Springfield, Gene Pitney, The Carpenters, Jackie DeShannon, The Fifth Dimension, Tom [...]
