2012 was a real exciting year for us at Dipped in Dollars. Big love to all of the artists who stepped up for interviews and Substitute Teachers mixes, and we're really looking forward to showing you what we've got in store for 2013. Mystic Music of the Maya fLako - Honey Drips Throwing Snow - Brook Jessie Ware [...]

It's that time of the month again, where Chief and I combine forces to bring you our favorite tracks from the past month. Without much ado, here are the tracks we couldn't take off repeat during November. SZA - "Bed" Ambassadeurs - "Second Thought" Monster Rally & RUMTUM - "Veil" fLako - "Lion's Mane" feat. Dirg Gerner Rules [...]
We spoke to the connoisseurs of cutting-edge sounds.

Our latest Substitute Teachers mix comes from Piff Gang , a group of artists from London who have brought UK cloud rap to another level. DJ Motive (@MotiveUK) curated the selection you're hearing today, and we spoke a bit after I listened to the mix. Who started Piff Gang ? Has it always been a set group or do artists come and go? Piff Gang [...]

Our latest Substitute Teachers comes from Seattle-via-Columbus based producer Rumtum , whose beat tapes and collaborative EP with Monster Rally have been some of our favorite releases this year. I shot him a few questions after listening to his mix. Where does the name Rumtum come from? It's like a Native American/tribal name. Was there a particular track or [...]

There is a long list of Dipped in Dollars projects that never saw the light of day, one of them was an Astro Nautico party we were going to throw in DC last spring. This Substitute Teachers mix by Obey City was going to drop the day of the party, and we are finally able to bring it to you online. I shot the guys a couple of questions this week to see how things were going. What made you start [...]

Albert Swarm is Finland's best kept secret. The Substitute Teachers mix he made for us is an extraordinary reflection of the sounds you'll hear on Wake - his sophomore release on Ceremony Recordings - and I was able to speak with him a bit about his work. Where does the name Albert Swarm come from? The name comes from a book I read while traveling on a subway in [...]

Our latest Substitute Teachers mix comes from Stockholm-based electronic producer Boerd , whose Velocity EP has been a top release this summer. I asked the up-and-comer a few questions after listening to his mix. Where does Boerd come from? My real name is "Bård" which is a very uncommon name in Sweden. I chose " Boerd " as the name for my solo project, [...]

Danger has designed some beautiful Dipped in Dollars stickers that have just arrived in Washington DC. Send us an email to did@dippedindollars.com if you'd like some.

Acid Washed is the Paris-based duo of Richard D’Alpert and Andrew Claristidge. Their first commercial release on Record Makers paid homage to the hard edged electronics coming out of Chicago and Detroit in the early 80s, and poignantly recontextualized the source of their aesthetic diaspora. I asked them to focus a little more on the retro for this Substitute Teachers , and they found a way to weave the godfathers electronic composition into a darker collection of classics. Substitute Teachers: Acid [...]

Stephen Farris is a producer and visual artist based in Houston, Texas. He's my favorite unsigned producer at the moment, with three outstanding releases to his name that display a unique understanding of composition and form. I didn't know what to expect when he agreed to send a mix our way, but this work features a broad spectrum of influences - including a track he's made exclusively for the mix - and serves as the perfect introduction to his sound. [...]

My favorite single from my favorite female vocalist now has a proper video, thanks to our friends at Eglo Records , and her work with Floating Points has clearly influenced my summer selections. You've got to cop this EP if you haven't yet. Fatima feat. Floating Points - Mind [...]

Monster Rally is the brainchild of 23 year old Columbus, Ohio resident and Cleveland native Ted Feighan. Producing sample - based tropical pop , his releases on Gold Robot weave old records into a wholly different beast. We asked him to close out our summer with some autumn-eschewing vibes, and he presented us with a mix that is purely indicative of his sound. Substitute Teachers: Monster Rally [...]

This has been a good year for Dipped in Dollars. From getting a mention on The Guardian, previewing Jai Paul 's album in XL's New York office, interviewing artists like Gilles Peterson , Jensen Sportag and Onra to premiering exclusive mixes by Solar Bears , Teams , and Streets Of Beige , our second year has been filled with lots of [...]

I'm not sure how it's already been two years since we started the blog. What began as a casual idea is now a very real endeavor, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I've been exposed to such phenomenal explorations of electronic music, and met loads of great people along the way. I am truly grateful to anyone who has ever supported us in any way. Thank you. To celebrate, as we did last year , Chief, Crimson and I have all made anniversary mixes of our favorite sounds of summer. (Theirs will [...]

Teams is an LA-based artist working with AMDISCS . His work with Star Slinger was released through Mexican Summer last January, but there is so much more to his own material. I asked him to make us something special and this is what came our way. Tracklist provided below. Substitute Teachers: Teams by Dipped in Dollars [...]

Chief and I have been dipping into some serious heat from the '80s British soul-funk scene, and The Cool Notes properly exemplify the finer points of the music coming from this particular point in time and space. For music fans who tend to promptly shuffle onward at the first sound of corn-ball lyrics or blatant drum machine abuse, you might serve your ears well by trying some of this with an open mind. With a strong dedication to refined groove and a balanced use of vintage production technique, bands like The Cool Notes [...]

Jai Paul 's manager reached out and let us know about another artist he's representing, Javeon McCarthy , whose Love Without A Heart has been hitting hard this week. This Bashmore produced gem covers a lot of territory in four minutes, with Javeon laying down some seriously soulful vocals. You should buy the single on iTunes for only £0.99. Javeon McCarthy - Love Without [...]
I was scopin’ out some new posts on friends Dipped in Dollars and came across this awesome video. If you remember the El Guincho video I posted on Friday , you’ll see the two are similarly Sagan-esque . It’s from the same people who brought us the sultry ass-gazing video for Sebastien Tellier. Check out Darwin Deez ’s new self-titled album on iTunes or stream on Soundcloud . Darwin Deez - Constellations by LuckyNumberMusic
I am super proud to present to you my ultra blog bro’s (and sis’s) music. Chief and...
