Monday Music's the one weekly post where Some Of It Was True! drops its London-only focus. Dirty Gold - California Sunrise Ahhh, is that ocean spray on my face? No, its mild acid rain. BUT I CAN DREAM. San Diegan Dirty Gold's California Sunrise has that hazy, happy summer sound, with seagulls (literally, seagulls squawking. Nothing beats the power of suggestion) and sand being kicked in your eyes as you skip over dunes, laughing, smiling, having fun. Until you fall and land on [...]
![[Playlist] A Meaty Vacationing Mixture](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4052057_lg.jpg)
Hello friends and others. I am off on a mini-vacation tomorrow (see above picture). When we get back from Mexico the plan is to finish packing up our house and move to Vancouver...finally. Life will be pretty wild over the next few weeks so I highly doubt that there will be much new music posted up here. As a present, here is a playlist that I will be listening to while sitting by the pool, eating tacos, drinking chi-chi's and playing some serious Scrabble. Till then... 1. Dirty Gold - California Sunrise [...]
51. Gem Club - "Breakers" Stunning beautiful, simple piano piece. I can feel the whole world slowing down around me. 52. M83 - "New Map - vimeo Along with "Midnight City" and "Steve McQueen", this track got played a whole hell of a lot this year. While the album as a whole had some weak spots (I've found very few double LPs that wouldn't benefit from a shorter length), the high points were very high. This song stays with the basic formula [...]
Guess I'm feeling the super positive vibes of the San Diego California bands this week. Just discovered the band Dirty Gold on Spotify and am in love. Maybe it's the ocean air from being home in Miami, but I am digging the breezy vocals and the island life sounds coming out of the guitars in every single one of their tracks. If I didn't know a Mojito had as much calories as a Big Mac I might even sip one. Check out " California Sunrise". Acoustic video and mastered track below. [...]
Tonight's touts: ► Morrissey plays a sold-out show at the Shrine Auditorium. ► It's a night for some very good shoegazer rock at the Satellite — Tennis System (that's their video for "Arcane," above) celebrates the release of its album "Teenagers," with United Ghosts (marking the release of their "Holes Into the Night" 7-inch) and Boxviolet , freshly returned from shows in France, supporting. ► Dutch DJ Sander Kleinenberg , who this summer released his debut studio album "5K," holds forth at Avalon Hollywood. [...]

We're very excited and honored to be presenting this mixtape by one of our favorite musicians, the wonder that is Datahowler . He's crafted this one in honor of the heatwave/drought that Texas experienced this summer from which they are just now recovering. In his own original work he draws from a myriad of influences, so it's only fitting that this would be an eclectic bundle of joy. More than just a mix, it's an explorative journey of sound. Stream it through his bandcamp here, or grab the .zip of mp3s . He's also [...]

For most, 'the pool' was a once a year thing, something which you more than made up for in the week (or two if you were lucky) while relaxing in the Med. No sleep, no shade, just an all day fun house with the odd ice cream break thrown in. continue reading >>

Being honest, first time through Living Legends' Creative Differences I was completely turned off. Third track in, CMA talks about masturbation on "Addicted". Seriously? Maybe an artist like Del tha Funky Homosapien could get by, but a group that calls themselves 'Living Legends' either are being terrible comedians or underachieving. Second time through I stopped being such a stuck-up snobby asshole and seriously enjoyed the release. Scarub , 1/8 of the West Coast collective, showcases his own endeavor enlisting the help of buddy Eligh , Toni Scruggs and Dirty Gold on his EP California . The four-track [...]

Dirty Gold comes from San Diego, California where I was homegrown and taught to walk and spin and swim. The Ballif brothers bleed sunshine and seagulls. This classic tune will make you want to run to the seashore. (Photograph taken in La Jolla, CA) Download: California Sunshine - Dirty Gold

Two afternoon delights: Rubik - "World Around You" — Sounds like: Sigur Ros Dirty Gold - "California Sunrise" — Sounds like: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome. Any Joe Blow music blogger can throw together a playlist of decent songs (believe me, I have tried one too many times). Rarely am I high-fiving strangers or chest-bumping my ladyfriend when a new one pops up on the interweb...unless of course if it comes from a select few of my favourite music junkies. We have already seen a couple from I am Friends, You are Fuel and Music For Ants recently...stepping into the spotlight today is the newest release from Canadian superbloggers, Ca Va Cool . So good! Get it [...]

Sometimes, there's too much good music. Mixtapes are a chance to pick and choose from the spectrum of too muchness and bring friends and readers some of the best of what I've heard recently. But sometimes there's still too much, which is why I decided to split this mix into 2 parts, or 'sides', if you will. Part 1 is California Sunrise, because as you'll learn quickly in the captions below, California has inadvertently become a major theme in my listening choices as of late. Like past mixes, this one's heavily influenced by how I feel with the on-set of my favourite time [...]

Summer time is really in full swing! With the oppressive heat also come things like BBQs, beaches, picnics and summer jams. We made a playlist of some of our favorite summer music, the songs to cook burgers too, to swim to, and to make out under the bleachers to (summer turns us all into 15 year olds again, it's a scientific fact). We've done you the service of creating a YouTube playlist for continual listening and posted all the legal MP3s we could. 1. "On Land" - TV Girl [...]
This is a picture of Sarabeth Tucek. She makes music that's kinda of a downer, but it's like listening to aural agony, and it's amazing right after a late night of drinking with friends or if you just ran over a squirrel or something like that. Anyway, I thought this picture was just all kinds [...]

After the jump, listen to a selection of tracks from Gage's Autumn Tone Records label while you read about his take on running a music blog and his advice for other blogger-started labels. I have a California hangover. We just spent a long weekend in San Diego/Temecula for a wedding, and I had the same thoughts every Arizonan does in the throes of idyllic 70-degree temperatures: How fast can I move here? It's hard to describe the deflating feeling of driving back across the merciless desert into the awaiting inferno of another Phoenix summer, the temperature gauge in the car mocking you all the while. Granted, those California dreams are quickly tempered by reality – you pay what in rent? – but even in my sunburned state, I dream [...]
