Hallelujah (...)

Brooklyn based Dirty on Purpose has been very busy. In addition to playing here this summer and doing a WOXY lounge act, DOP have also sat in for KEXP in Seattle and Indie 103 . Here are some songs from those sessions, you can down them all here. Be sure to check out the cover version of "Send Me An Angel" they did while here in Cincinnati. Dirty on Purpose - Send Me An Angel (Live on WOXY) [...]

Though all four members of Dirty On Purpose grew up in four differing states on the East Coast, I guess you could call it fate when they all formed in Brooklyn in 2002. It would be the most traditional to compare them to Yo La Tengo, with their eccentric mixture of shoegaze and early 90s alternative being very evident in the majority of their tracks. The band has trimmed down from five members to four in their sophomore album, Hallelujah Sirens . Despite the departure of keyboardist Erika Forster, Dirty On Purpose sounds [...]

Within 30 seconds of first putting on this album, the horn section on the first track, No Radio , made me think of Beulah , but don't pigeon-hole the group yet. I think the strongest characteristic of Dirty On Purpose 's newest release, Hallelujah Sirens , is the wide spectrum of sound they lay down on it. From the horn section in the first track, to the soothing cello in the slower paced Lake Effect , even the varied instrumentation adds to the overall feel of the album. [...]
It's really great that I got to come out to this show the other night. I didn't even know this show was happening until the fine folks at Filter hooked me up with free tickets. As usual, I was having difficulties finding someone to go with me up until the day before the scheduled date. It's ridiculous how hard it is for me to find someone to go to shows with, especially this and having a FREE

Brooklyn, NY Dirty On Purpose is no different from most other Brooklyn bands I’m discovering these days. Hot, hot, hot! Hallelujah Sirens is for sure one of my most favorite records of the year. I helped promote them when they stopped by earlier in the year for a show at DC9 and can’t wait to see them again when they’re back August 22, this time at Black Cat . "Light Pollution" [...]

"No-one is gonna take me alive The time has come to make things right You and I must fight for our lives You and I must fight to survive" Como prometi (pra quem ainda nãp providenciou ainda) o álbum do Maritime, um melhores do ano até agora na minha humilde opinião. We, The Vehicles.rar [...]

OK, I get a lot of shit from people for living on the eastside - Particularly for living in Echo Park. Echo Park/Silverlake is definately the "Hipster" area of Los Angeles. It is the promise land for the American Apparel short short wearing, ironic moustache touting, 20-something-on-a-bike-with-a- journal-in-the-front-basket, "I don't need a fucking job," defective youth of Los Angeles. Does the fact that I live here make me a fucking hipster? Residents of Williamsburg (Brooklyn) and Haight Ashbury (San Fran) I know you feel me. I actually got in a heated argument of my sushi lunch (YES, I am [...]

Its friday...I just got home and I have some serious thinking to do over the weekend. Im not too sure about my job and just had a great convo with a buddy at work about other options. I work at Universal music with Bob Ezrin by the way but it just aint doin it for me anymore. I need a playlist to get me upbeat for the weekend but also something thats gonna keep me thinking about what it is that I should do..Money or free cd's, bad credit and the inability to provide for anyone other than myself. What [...]
Yet another bunch of kids from Brooklyn lighting up the sky with the effervescent emitted from their instruments. Dirty On Purpose’s new album ‘Hallelujah Sirens’ is really rather exciting because it recalls a genuinely exciting time in music when most of the underground pop being produced was dreamy in nature. So with Dirty On Purpose read an updated Pale Saints, a quieter Dinosaur Jr., a

Well, while Vermonters spent the weekend heat wave soaking in our favorite local swimming holes , the indie kids in NYC were catching all of the hot new bands out in Coney Island at the Village Voice's Siren Festival ...in 95 degree heat. The big names were Scissor Sisters , Tapes 'N' Tapes and Art Brut but it sounds like Serena Mannesh and Dirty On Purpose got a lot of attention too. Here's a few links to some nice photos of the shows. [...]
I figured since practically every music fan in New York will be heading out to Coney Island tomorrow morning for the annual Siren Fest that I would post a mix of the artists that are performing tomorrow. You will notice that I'm not including every band that is playing, because I don't like every band. As always this does not mean that you can't enjoy them I just thought I'd shine the light on the ones I do enjoy. Anyway, make sure you catch these four bands tomorrow or you'll be sorry: Man Man (2:30 Stillwell stage), Dirty on Purpose [...]
SIREN FESTIVAL 2006 preview: Stars, Cribs, Dirty On Purpose This weekend, thousands of hipsters will take the Q train to the Siren festival, sponsored by the Village Voice, held on a sweltering street in Coney Island. The unwashed will be wearing Sufjan Stevens t-shirts and Neighborhoodies and lilting in the 90+ degree weather waiting for the Scissor Sisters to come on. Here's a quick guide
I fell like this weekend is really summery. For the first time all year my air conditioner was pumping morning, afternoon, and night all week long and if you add that to all the great free shows this weekend it makes it feel more like summer. So I've decided to throw together a little bit of a summer mix for all you people out there that read my blog and listen to the music I post here. So here you go!!! (please note the majority of these tracks are in the m4a format, sorry bout that) [...]
This week starts off a bit slow but then gets rolling with lots of free awesome concerts later in the week! It should be an amazing, but busy week, and we all should pray that the weather cooperates!!! Here's what's going on... Monday: A huge hit in the 90's following the demise of grunge, Toad the Wet Sprocket are back! For what reason I don't know (do they have a new album?), all I know is that I enjoyed them back in the day and if it wasn't for the ridiculous ticket price I'd be wanting to go [...]

Rock on soldiers of the indie music army. 1. Religious zealots of the Church are definitely what these guys are. After a few listens you will be kneeling at the altar and praising Steve Kilbey for influencing this Louisville, Kentucky band. You won't be sorry at all for listening to this track. Super!
