The first five 73s from the legendary and highly influential British hardcore group Discharge have just been reissued on vinyl by the Minneapolis based label Havoc Records . All five singles were originally released by Clay Records between 1980 and 1982, and each one is an essential edition to your hardcore punk collection. A limited run of 200 copies of each title were pressed on white vinyl, but seem to have sold out immediately. All five of the Discharge reissues are currently still available on black vinyl for $5.50 each from [...]
Welcome to 2012! No matter if you're inclined to believe the predictions of a certain ancient civilization or subscribe the nonsensical ravings of yet another evangelical Christian idiot (or are just, like, paying attention to the amount of holy-shit-we're-fucked that's been going around), all signs seem to point pretty clearly towards Armageddon. Maybe fire won't [...]

Every single Wednesday without fail, your hosts post a suitably stale video clip that we think needs to be revisited. Click here for more Crusty Clips. Got a clip you think we should post? Send it to crustcake@gmail.com.By Andrew Wilhelm (TX)So, our last Crusty Clip was a little too HFCS-laden for you? Here's something on the opposite end of the spectrum - Discharge. This clip comes from a gig in

Fast, loud, angry and to the point. That's really all one I say about Unsilent Death by the band Nails . Their 10 songs in 13 lucky minutes makes Blood, Guts & Pussy by the Dwarves seem like a Dream Theater concept opus. I'm sure crusty types can rattle off the names of hundreds of "d-beat" style bands that they sound like but to me Nails taps into the dirty source of Discharge, Motorhead, Hellhammer and Poison Idea . Since this album is so short, the [...]
Discharge were another band that we missed due to scheduling. Bah. At this point we were having our tits bored off by Alcest over on the Rock Sound stage. It seems that Gary Wolstenholme was the one having all the fun again - hopefully we'll find some of his photos of a band we did see in [...]
The latest line-up announcement for this year's Damnation Festival contains both good and bad news. The good news is obvious - legendary crustpunks Discharge and the extraordinarily-influential British thrash outfit Sabbat have joined the line-up. The bad news is that this pair look likely to be the final significant additions to this year's event. The [...]

Revelations of Doom returns! As always, this column's aim is to drag you deeper into the underground, below the lights and where the slime live, and introduce you to some of the most badass bands you've never heard. This time around we're venturing way South of the Mason-Dixon, rolling through rebel territory and heading straight ...

Seattle hardcore punk band Black Breath is releasing their first full length, Heavy Breathing , March 30th on Southern Lord and the band is heading off on a full US tour with Converge & Lewd Acts . The tour kicks off in NYC on May 6th at Santos Party House. Tickets are $16 and go on sale on Feb. 17th. Heavy Breathing was recorded last year at Kurt Ballou's God City Studios (Converge, Trap Them, Disfear) and this new 10-track disc picks up where Razor to Oblivion [...]

Black Breath has played some well received shows here in NYC over the past few years with the last being a show at The Charleston last June. The band released their debut 12" EP, Razor to Oblivion , in 2008 (on their own Hot Mass Records label) and have recently signed to Southern Lord who has reissued the band's debut EP on CD. This 4-track EP clocks in around the 15 minute mark and it is a solid slab of hardcore punk. There are immediate comparisons to 80's punk bands like Discharge, Minor Threat and [...]
This morning, I received the following e-mail from reader Parker Werley: "How does a band get to earn the proud badge of having -core in their genre?" That's a pretty simple question, but it's also kind of thought provoking. So I thought maybe we could explore it here a little bit. Because, honestly, I'm not sure that [...]
So what was your entre into the world where denim, leather n' demonology reign supreme? Where you adore the goat and sway to the symphony of deee-struction? Every man (or woman) has a tale to tell. Here's mine. You're gonna hear a lot of names you might be unfamiliar with, especially if you're a member [...]

TUCUMAN ARDE: COUNTER INFORMATION AND THE CREATION OF AESTHETIC AND CULTURAL MILITANCY If there is one thing in my short visit on this planet has taught me, is that the relationship between art and politics is a pretty much a hot mess on your chest. Some would say that without politics there can be no art, and others would take the vice-a-verse stance and tell you that without art - politics would suffer as well. I find that art and artists that wear the skin of the liberal activist are amongst some of the most [...]
I remember picking up Discharge's Self-Titled album about five years ago. The college radio station that I had a show with was giving away all of their unwanted music, and allowed anybody to take a total of like 2 albums. Never hearing of Discharge before, the cover looked intriguing (and by... (Visit Page For Songs and Rest Of Article)
Abomination by Alex Carnevale The Incredible Hulk dir. Louis Leterrier 115 minutes About halfway through Edward Norton's braindead The Incredible Hulk, you are pounded into submission. No more remakes, you say. They're the feature film version of 'Telephone.' The eighteenth version of the same movie only gets progressively worse and more insulting. norton is so standing on a chair right now The [...]

Ha! You think you know DJ stylee?? See here!! What day is it? Sunday?? Then I must be home. Hang on a sec, let me check... Yep, this seems to be my house, and those seem to be my kids. And the lovely lady pottering about the garden bears a resemblance to my Dearest Wife. But I'll examine her more closely later, just to be sure... Dearest Readers, I've been on the road (or more accurately in the air) [...]

GaryChching from Always Searching for Music got me going on these singles. He posts such great stuff that I have never heard or haven't listened to in years & it got me thinking, I should dig through my 45s & (re)discover what my declining brain-cell count has forgotten. It was quite an adventure. The first set goes out with ASFM in mind, some Brit punk that I've always enjoyed (I've always been more of a devotee of US crust/street punk, but these tracks are da bomb!). [...]
