Welcome back to another fresh batch of selected goodness. It's been an amazing month for The Recommender, as lots of great things are happening in the background which will only serve to help grow the blog. More news will follow once everything's finalised, suffice to say, world domination is definitely still on the cards. Nice... FLOATING ACTION If you like your music with a lot of charm and down-beat pace, then look no further than this lot. This is a new ensemble [...]
If the members of Vampire Weekend ever disband and decide to go on their separate ways, at least one of them, our choice would probably be Ezra Koenig for reasons below, should seriously consider writing the Idiot's Guide to Making the Music Blogosphere's Head Explode . After all, just when you thought anticipation for the followup to last year's self-titled debut couldn't get any bigger, the band has all but obliterated the idea of patience with its recent recent comments to Entertainment Weekly : After that, [...]

Many a time it can be tough wading through the murky and populated ocean of music that finds its way to the world wide web but occasionally a group will effortlessly stand out. In this case, the group in question is Discovery . As far as recipes for guaranteed success go, combining the best elements of [...]

Overlapping waves of hype and backlash behind them, Vampire Weekend have moved on to the business of making new music. Except that they been had making new music since the halcyon Vampire Weekend days. We first heard "White Sky" on that little record's support tour, and again recently on Fallon . Now Ezra's talking about the VW followup to EW.com, saying that scarf-loving keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij will once again produce the sessions. They've been in the studio for a solid month, Koenig describing the aesthetic direction thusly: Continue [...]

Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend has teamed up with Wes Miles of Ra Ra Riot to create Discovery . There are only two tracks up on their MySpace right now, but they say they're "COMING HARD AT YOU IN 2009!" This track, Osaka Loop Line , is quite different from the other, Orange Shirt , which has a more Ra Ra Riot put through an R.Kelly R&B wringer. Probably just the result of the two [...]

This may be the start of something special. Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend has teamed up with Wes Miles from Ra Ra Riot and produced something quite inspirational. This is set to combat the success of their previous ventures and take things to a whole new level. The track 'orange shirt' below is a snippet of things to come, they also have a track on their myspace named Osaka Loop Line

Aptly described by Derek Neon Gold as a combination of Vampire Weekend, The Postal Service and R. Kelly, with references to Japan both lyrical and aesthetic, Vampire Weekend keyboardist, Rostam Batmanglij, has teamed up with Ra Ra Riot's Wes Miles, to form a new side-project, Discovery . Set to take 2009 by storm, this lively duo, with the kind of iron grip on a gorgeous melody that you could reasonably expect given their backgrounds, will be releasing a self-titled LP later this year. And judging from the levels of anticipation for FrankMusik and [...]

As if he's not busy enough providing some really quite popular songs about Peter Gabriel and the nuisance nuances of English grammar with all sorts of prim and properly awesome orchestral licks as part of his nine-to-five in Vampire Weekend, Rostam Batmanglij has taken some time out the hood (moved his moms out the hood) to loosen his collar a little and get his hands a little dirtier as half of Discovery . The combination of "Orange Shirt"'s synth-strong 808 onslaught and weirdly courteous vocals conjures an image of Prince Harry undoing the top button on his [...]

Another post where you probably think I'm joking, but once again, I'm not. I'll make sure that when I'm lying I put that in quotes in the title. Now, who's ready to drink some piss?! Will Ferrell will appear in a June episode of "Man Vs. Wild" as part of a synergistic alliance between Discovery and Universal Pictures. In the episode, Ferrell joins Grylls in the far north of Sweden, where they spend 48 hours performing tasks such as rappelling down hundred-foot frozen waterfalls, tandem-abseiling off a helicopter and staying warm overnight in subzero [...]

Uzi and Ari, a pretty awesome group who named themselves after Ben Stiller's children in the film The Royal Tennenbaums , have been putting out albums and playing shows in both the U.S. and Europe since at least 2003. The band is signed in Europe to Own Records which has U.S. distribution via Secretly Canadian and even has distribution in Japan via Friend of Mine Records. However, for many, (Salt Lake City- ers included) this will be a first introduction. For fans of: Thom Yorke, The Postal [...]

The day has come everyone, the debut of the new party conceived by Famous Friends ' fantastic and fun DJ, VDRK ! DISCOVERY launches tonight at Greenpoint's club Studio B and promises to be a hell of a night. In contrast to Friday's hard electro show with MSTRKRFT, tonight's installment of DISCOVERY, titled Vol 1.: The Anabatic Records Party , is a focus on the more tech-house side of things. Lots of folks have been talking up Worth y since WMC, so we're pretty excited to see what he has up [...]

There's a big monthly party coming up in NYC. VDRK and I are residents, it's at Studio B , and it's on Saturday. Worthy's headlining, and we have huge acts to follow. If you live in New York, be there . If not, tell your New York friends. Yankee Zulu - Natori (Worthy Remix) Worthy - Madcap (Yankee Zulu Remix) [...]

A new techno/house/disco party from Famous Friend VDRK called Discovery is set to pop off this coming Saturday night at Studio B in Brooklyn and it boasts a huge line-up, a rad ticket giveaway, and us!! The FF crew has been sort of laying low recently (aside from the Lose Control party in Austin) but they're coming back to bite with new parties this spring that you cannot miss. Deets: DISCOVERY Saturday April 4 Studio B 259 Banker St, Brooklyn, NY [...]
Life is what you miss while making plans... My favorite song from these Brooklyn- ites ' debut album, See-Saw, is called Laundry List and it really rocks. Lyrics aren't something typically important to me in rock, I'm more interested in the sound and melody but goddamn if these guys don't write some great lyrics and powerful music to back them. Falling somewhere between Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Neil Young (wide gap, I know) this band has some real potential. Not to mention nobody has really latched onto them yet so call them [...]

Sofia did a splendid job at SXSW, knocked out the audience at no less than 6 showcases and started a collaboration with American label Worldsound . - It's a collaboration that suits the way I work, says Sofia, we have a partner deal so I won't be kicking off my shoes and wait for anyone else to take charge. My goal has always been to carry a strong business and be able to make my own choices. With Worldsound I have finally found a US label that is on [...]
