Before I went to Apes & Androids on Monday night I stopped by Pianos for Division Day. We here at BSC like Division Day but we've never had the pleasure of seeing them live. The main reason for that is the fact that they never played in NYC before. I was really impressed with the band. They have a very upbeat sound live and really bust their asses. The drummer was particularly impressive. He was
Thanks for all of you who mailed me tons of mail about new bands. And in this new section , i chose some of them to introduce my readers! Hold on! Benjy Ferree: Interesting new artist that i have listened recently. He was inspired at an impressionable age by Will Oldham. "Why Bother" swayed me at first listen, at once i started to write about the song. Autumnal impressive three songs we've
I think everyone knows how I feel about Division Day already. Not to sound like a superfan of anything, but yeah, I'll pretty much be at all of these shows. Watch their video for "Hurricane" [uh above] and enjoy. They were superb last night in their east coast debut at Piano's, and you have three more times to catch them this week. I recommended all of the shows. 11/01: Fader Sideshow @ 88 Delancey St. 4 pm 11/03: Union Hall [w/ The Chages & Kunek] 10:30 pm 11/04: Underrated Party @ Sin-e [...]
It's two days until the official start of the CMJ Music Marathon, and bands are already starting to arrive into town and play some shows. Tonight's most interesting show, to me at least, was at Pianos, with La Rocca and Division Day. [The Drones actually headlined, but I left before they came on, and a girl named Jaymay, who has a great voice but kinda boring songs, opened.] La Rocca, "This
As the title suggests, here's a bunch of interesting stuff I've found over the last few days around the internet. Enjoy: RBally, on the verge of internet retirement, posts the first of at least four farewell posts. This one features The Smiths' Troy Tate sessions. Said The Gramophone has an ancient live track from Pavement, "Secret Knowledge of Back Roads", live from the Cat's Cradle in Chapel
FEATURED ARTIST: BEASTIE BOYS I'm back and work and feeling loads better. Finally my face is starting to calm down and just in time too - Holy crap is TONIGHT is a loaded night for shows. It's very rare that I become a huge fan of a band before seeing them live. It usually happens like this: 1. Hear a song. 2. Go to show. 3. Buy album. 4. Fall in love. But with LA's Division Day , things are a bit out of step. I heard of the band from the Birdmonsters, and then the blogs, and then I heard the songs. One day I woke up with "Tap Tap Click Click" stuck in my head and the rest was history. Since then [...]

I'm not going to make an official announcement until we get our super awesome flyer done, but I can't contain my excitement anymore. Here's a hint of where you should be Saturday, November 4 during the daylight hours. That's all I'm saying.

So it's been a while since I've put together a little mix for all of you. I've been listening to a ton of great music lately, that I just haven't gotten around to posting about. So consider this an introduction. Let me know what you like/dislike, and make sure you put this all together on your little iPods while walking outside to the crisp Fall weather. It works perfectly with the temperature, trust me. Ennui - Time and Place Ok Go - Here It Goes Again [...]

( flier by Garrison Reid ) My favorite left-coasters, Birdmonster , are making their triumphant return to Dallas this week to play the Doublewide . This time, they're bringing their friends from L.A., Division Day , who are making their first trip east of California. We (and everyone else) have lauded the greatness of Birdmonster's live show since we first saw them back in March, and we can't wait to see how the songs from Division Day's awesome debut LP, Beartrap Island , sound live. See you kids [...]

I've become busy. The kind of busy that you have all these thoughts going through your head that you can actually start to see them pouring out of your eyes and surrounding your desk. Am I hallucinating? There's a good chance. But it's a good kind of busy. The kind of busy that you know in the end will be all worthwhile. Needless to say this blog is going to take a beating for a little while, because if I start to write interesting things here, my job will lack and well...they pay me. Typepad does [...]
Greetings everyone! I'm Jesse from Indoor Fireworks. First off, let's all thank the wonderful Bethanne for organizing this event. We're all very much indebted to her. For the first of my two entries today, I'm going to re-post an interview I did with Division Day several months back. Why? Because their sound deserves a wider audience. Enjoy and don't forget to donate: Up until now, I can't

OK, I get a lot of shit from people for living on the eastside - Particularly for living in Echo Park. Echo Park/Silverlake is definately the "Hipster" area of Los Angeles. It is the promise land for the American Apparel short short wearing, ironic moustache touting, 20-something-on-a-bike-with-a- journal-in-the-front-basket, "I don't need a fucking job," defective youth of Los Angeles. Does the fact that I live here make me a fucking hipster? Residents of Williamsburg (Brooklyn) and Haight Ashbury (San Fran) I know you feel me. I actually got in a heated argument of my sushi lunch (YES, I am [...]

Finally. Birdmonster and Division Day are making their way to our fine state, playing Modified on August 19. Only $6. These two bands have been touring like mad with no Phoenix stops. Birdmonster has played Tucson a couple of times. So I'm pretty jazzed about this show. Six dollars? Six American dollars? Hel-lo! That's a bargain. You can't get out of Subway these days for less than $6. Birdmonster | Balcony Division [...]
