The term "boutique festival" has been chucked around the UK press mercilessly in recent years, and as a result, no one can actually pinpoint what it means anymore. But, broadly speaking, if things like a small(ish) site, forest/rolling hill backdrops, intricate costumes, performance art, locally brewed cider and an emphasis on woodland creatures and masks [...]

DJ Food continues his pretty ADDHD excursions in tribute to electronic pioneers Kraftwerk. Six volumes of Kraftwerk related covers and inspirations in six volumes are up on Soundcloud . It's a lot to get through but with covers from The Divine Comedy, Trouble Funk, Senor Coconut, Rammstein, Souxsie & the Banshees interlaced with interview audio all appearing in Volume 1 alone, this might just be the perfect summer sunshine listening. Kraftwerk Kover Kollection Vol.1 Michael Bailey - Solid Steel [...]

DJ FOOD - The Search Engine Ninja Tune: 2012 How many obscure movies, music, and other assorted random non-sense must someone listen to/experience in order to find that perfect sample? Like where did that perfect disembodied voice come from (because it obviously isn't from Degrassi or I-Carly or The Wizards of Waverly Place ?) And, how does that person know when the sample/snippet/clip/bit/ whatever is just right? Where do you find those samples? Do you go to a flea market, dumpster dive, or some sort [...]

DJ Food - The Search Engine By Kenny McMurtrie DJ Food 's The Search Engine starts off with one of those annoying but occasionally amusing deep voices that advertise films. Given that the album's created entirely from samples it probably is just exactly that. Thankfully it disappears after the first track ('All Covered In Darkness (pt. 1)'). This consistently surprising album then throws up a pretty major one right on track two with a 30 year old song being sung by its originator – Talk Talk's [...]

★★★☆☆ Legendary audio auteur and archaeologist DJ Food rearranges the best bits of an epic EP trilogy to form an album that's been a long time coming. (Food's last freely available opus Kaleidoscope was released way back in 2001.) The one-time Coldcut project now down to original member, Kevin "Strictly Kev" Foakes, comes correct with the usual smoothie of samples and passages into the unknown. The Search Engine provides terms in funk and the fanciful, but what upsets the album's rhythm is a lack of balance. The rock-star [...]

When we see the artwork above, we immediately think Super Metroid , but maybe that's just us. It's still cool though. So it has always been a Ninja Tune shtick to have old school samples peppered throughout their jams, but this new release from DJ Food has a distinctive sound we're used to. For instance, one of our favorite DJ Food tracks of all time is DJ Food fear. Ken Nordine - "The Ageing Young Rebel:" That came out over 11 years ago, and this release from DJ [...]
