15. Azealia Banks - 212 Anyone who thought that female fronted electro-rap had run it's course was forced to eat their metaphorical hat this year when Azealia Banks ' '2122 swiftly went viral. Like a showreel, the record demonstrated a multitude of talents - from tough as nails and filthy as hell Harlem rap, to an impressive R&B croon to a pretty aggressive battlecry. And all of this whilst delivering one of the biggest party bangers in recent memory. We're hyped to see what Azealia's Paul Epworth -produced album will sound like and with [...]

My heart will always have a soft spot for Lawrence. The melodic, god like music he purveys is like no other. Seamlessly blending hypnotic soundscapes with deep four to the floor beats, the Kurama EP is solid gold. Taking a small vacation from his regular spots like Ghostly International. Releasing this time on Koze's Pampa Records. Koze & Lawrence recently travelled Japan together. You can feel the inspiration seep through every moment of the track, laden with incredible sounds heavily influenced by the Japanese mountain regions. This record is one of the [...]
DJ Koze- Estrella The year is buttoning up and walking briskly into the darker months and I think it's at a juncture where I might say that when it comes to house and techno, DJ Koze's label Pampa will be the one talked about most warmly around the year end log fires. Kozalla is a careful curator, and there is a lovely sense of the label starting to develop a hugely identifiable 'feel' as Kompakt did, even though it has only reached its eighth single release. The 'feel' of course is pure [...]

Since writing 20102s 2Q Report on overrated tracks I've spent some time pondering what makes something overrated. In years prior LWE has fingered DJs as the culprits behind overrated tracks, and with good reason: jocks are the ones playing and charting the tunes. But that overlooks two important parts of the equation - audiences and critics. If it feels wrong to blame club-goers for the music they have no explicit role in picking, think again. Dancers vote with their feet, choosing to reward or punish a DJ's selections with their presence on the dancefloor or decision [...]

★★★★☆ Away goes Louie Vega , traveling the world once again with his trusted house music compass, looking for the perfect beat and always having somewhere to crash wherever he goes. Those putting him up include high-rate landlords such as Todd Terry, DJ Koze, Dennis Ferrer, Basement Jaxx (who already have a tenant in Yoko Ono for "Day of the Sunflowers"), Eric Kupper and Phil Asher. It's no spring break roadtrip, it's all under the premise of the wordy subtitle A Journey into Electronic, Soulful, Afro & Latino Rhythms. Vega [...]

My blogging hiatus has been longer than what I initially planned. I wish I could say that I was out exploring the festival circuit. Sipping drinks at Primavera, bouncing around at Sonar, enjoying the sun at Coachella. Sadly, I didn't do any of those. But then again, finishing my exams and moving most of my stuff back to Denmark for the summer probably counts as a legitimate excuse. Excuses aside, I'm ready to embark on a few months of festival fun. While I missed this year's Distortion extravaganza (which was, apparently, extravagant in every sense of the word), [...]

Alright so, I'm still pretty busy and I don't have a lot of time to write so this post is simply a melting pot of tracks I've heard over the weekend and seemed good enought for your ears ! First, Xinobi . While listening to The Magician's Magic Tape 8 at a friends party where I DJ by clicking play on the first track on The Magician's soundcloud page (yeah, I'm that good) I heard a track, thinking "WHAT IS THIS ? ME GUSTA !". The track happened to be Hawaii from his EP [...]

What do you get if you cross, 3 top promoters, a massive storage space in South London and a bank holiday sunday in May? Eastern Electrics that's what, who steam rolled back into town the sunday before last with promoters Mulletover , Bloc and Deviation in tow. Returning to the place they call home - the Great Suffolk Street warehouse. And what a home it is! Possibly one of the most impressive warehouse spaces I've been to, with each room occupying a huge brick work archway. We arrive around midnight and after a [...]

It seems these days that DJ Koze can do no wrong. I first got to know him through his brilliant album Music Is Okay , which is very musically different to his other releases, so I'm always pleasantly surprised every time he comes out with tracks like these. His newest remix is already gathering big hype, and it's well deserved. Pick it up on Beatport here . Efdemin - There Will Be Singing (DJ Koze Remix) So you have something to go home with, here's one [...]

Battles have just caught up with Pitchfork, talking about their highly anticipated follow up to ' Mirrored' due this summer. The interview is a really good read and can be found here . While reading this I couldn't help taking a trip down memory lane . I had to share my two stand out remixes, totally different, that should be remember and not lost (as remixes so often do). Battles - Tonto (Four Tet Remix) (192) Battles - Atlas (Dj Koze Remix) (192)
