My posts of late have been a bit thin on the ground. That's because I've been mad busy with home improvements and a heap of other stuff going on. But hopefully now something resembling normal service will be resumed. Here's some things that were keeping me type faster at work last week, as I combined working my way through a pile of unlistened-to promos with my day job. It's a direction that I don't take too often on this blog, but hey, a bit of a change is surely a good thing. I've spent more than [...]
After about five months, The Sunday Shuffle has come out of hiding. It was never meant to be a consistent week to week feature like that Graboid, but I just couldn't figure out what to do with it. It first started off as like a shuffle of tracks and I would just post those every Sunday, but ultimately I decided to let it just be anything and everything. From random mixes to shuffled playlists, if it's something i'm in the mood for on a lazy Sunday, than it will be done. This time around, I decided to go [...]
The last CTTE Mix has become The Blue Walrus' most downloaded mix to date and so I thought it only right to follow it up with a second volume before exam revision takes over so posts will be more limited to only new bands that I find and absolutely love. There are some big names again [...]

Two things are wrong with this post's subject matter, given my current situation: It's cold and rainy outside, and since I am no longer a student - I have no spring break. However, this doesn't mean I can't throw you a hip shaking, pool party playlist. Das Boot! The Playlist (for maximum enjoyment please keep in order): [mp3] DJ Mehdi (feat. Chromeo) - I am Somebody [mp3] Justin Timberlake -

AG favorite Chromeo, Dave1 and Pee Thug have a new record about to drop and they have been oozing out that electonic/pop/funk. Check out some of their leaks off the album (last one with Mehdi is off Mehdi's album): Mp3: Chromeo - "Tenderoni" Mp3: Chromeo - "Fancy Footwork" Mp3: Chromeo feat. DJ Mehdi - "I am Somebody" [...]

Tim Kinsella - 10 Strange Friends and Friendly Strangers (I Had An Accident 2007) Tim Kinsella - Field Recordings of Dreams / I Had An Accident You think you know Tim Kinsella? You have no idea! Actually, its not all that drastic but Field Recordings of Dreams is an incredible artistic expansion. I've heard alot of criticism that Kinsella has gotten stale, and in all truthiness that is a fair observation, especially after nearly twenty years in the van, but Kinsella's status as elder indie statesman [...]

By Krista Peters My apologies for the particularly long delay - I was upstate all weekend getting my hands sticky with silkscreen ink, creating some clever new fashions for the store. Look out for the new hotness soon. DJ Mehdi - " Signatune " (ZZZ Remix) * Headland - " Dogging Sisters " (BLAMMA! BLAMMA! Mix) * Goose - " British Mode " (Jester Mix) Trans Mania - " Boing, Boom, Jack " (Alexander Robotnick Remix) * Hellogoodbye - [...]
Introducing... EVERYBODY ELSE! Everybody Else - S/T ( The Militia Group: April 3rd ) (Press release) In the days before "pop" was a dirty word, the music was funky, unpolished and not at all dumbed-down. The songs were so exciting, they could make you dance with wild abandon, and sing along euphorically, never caring who was in earshot. Everybody Else (named for a Kinks B-side) have [...]

I'm back!!! The other day I was running around to the all the newstands in the cold and sh*t looking for a copy of UK magazine Mix Mag 's January 2007 issue. The issue (with that 'ugly-ish, can't tell if she's pretty, over hyped' Lily Allen on the cover) comes with a 'free' copy of Erol Alkan 's Disco 2006 mix, tabbed as "The Best of the Year mixed by the DJ of the Year". This London based DJ is by far my favorite remix artist/DJ/dance producer these days. [...]
Two new BrooklynVegan features in two days! Three weekly rundown posts total: hip hop , comedy , and now: DANCE . Help me welcome David Bruno to the site. He's been involved with dance music for the past ten years, both as a DJ, and as an employee of an independent record label. You know him from his blog Slap You in Public and the many parties he throws in and around NYC. He DJ'd the free BrooklynVegan day show on Saturday during CMJ. [...]

If I was inclined to make a best of the year post, Herbert's Scale (Buy from eMusic ) would be bang near the top - phenomenally produced, political, romantic, danceable, experimental yet accessible pop music par excellence. You can sample a few tracks on his website. Listening to Erol Alkan's new Mixmag covermount mix-CD "Disco 2006" reminded me of this particularly stellar refix of Moving Like a Train (which I originally picked up at Tape ) from the album: Herbert – Moving Like [...]

They'll also soon be releasing digital versions of 12"s and singles from Justice, DJ Mehdi, Sebastian, Zongamin and more. Look out for [...]

It is Disco Friday, and this Friday couldn't get any better with "I Am Somebody" by DJ Mehdi & Chromeo. This is one helluva funked up, '80s inspired synth jive that was made to pump through the speakers of your local roller disco. The track is taken from Ed Banger's new compilation album "Ed Rec Volume 1." Since its inception in 2003, Ed Bangers has been on the forefront of the hip and happening French electro scene. The label was founded by Pedro Winter, the long time manager of Daft Punk, to introduce French dance music [...]
