Sound of the City roots for the home team and so does Impose Magazine's Jeremy Krinsley. Alia Raza did the above video for Violens, a band that plays soft-heeled indie pop that is not in any way L... Continue reading "Home Team Round-Up: These Are Powers, 50 Cent, Animal Collective (Of Course) " >
will never get tired of jocking premo --
I get the feeling homegirl had no idea who half those artists she just mentioned were! Seriously though, I used to clown these hipster rappers but real deal: they're pretty much coming with the most interesting music nowadays. It must drive people like Premo , who wish it was still 1992 , crazy but 2009 might be the year hipster rappers take over (or at least make a significant dent into the mainstream hip hop market). Just my opinion of course. I still think it's better not get yourself tarred with that brush in the [...]

Large Professor x Lord Finesse. What more could you ask for? [See post to listen to audio] DOWNLOAD: Lord Finesse - Here I Come (Large Professor Remix) P.S.: Photo is from 2007, DJ ON&ON and I rolled thru to Wakestock in Toronto. It was a whiteboy fest of epic awesomness.. but Lord Finesse was there. We also chilled with Lupe, Evidence, Babu and the god Admiral Crumple . Overall, a decent trip.

Made for me by Aja Riddick circa '94 Being a Hip-Hop "student" in New York City (Brooklyn stand up!!) during the 80's and 90's was a tremendous privilege. Especially as a young DJ-in-training, I had many professors - Mister Magic, Marley Marl, Chuck Chillout, Clark Kent, Pete Rock, Kid Capri, and The Awesome Two - that were able to transmit their weekly lessons directly to my home school. There are so many "Chief Rockers" that inspired me to study hard, in hopes that one day I would be able to graduate with Grandmaster Honors. [...]
Premo on his relationship with Jigga, Nas, and Weezy...Gotta say this was enlightening. You wanna know why Nas had a streak of wack records after Illmatic...no Premo behind the boards..Nas actually turned down records from Premier?? WOW! Great idea from Prem..If Nas would just bring them all back..Imagine another Nas record with Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock, and Q-tip (Maybe add Raphael Saddiq...just a suggestion)? A man can dream can't he?

In spite of myself, I think I'm anticipating Notorious . By expecting greatness a decent movie, I know there's potential for failure. But with the trailers & shit I've seen, it looks like the movie will be at least respectable to the memory of who Christopher George Latore Wallace was to music. And the movie has made me start to think back to when Big first hit the scene. Biggie emerged on the mainstream level with two unique singles - "Juicy" and "Big Poppa." Both would become symbolic, embodying Puff's [...]
No explanation needed. Props to the big homie Vega, holla at me!

I spent this past weekend in NY for the Fool's Gold Holiday Party and had a blast. I got a chance to hit up Santo's Party House for Q-Tip, Rich Medina and Vashtie's weekly, A-Trak and Kid Sister's holiday shindig, and The Rub's Anniversary Warehouse Party. The weekend was dope. I saw snow in a urban setting for the first time. Everything was great except for JFK and the flight back to SF. A Nightmare. When it comes to aesthetic appeal, functional layout, communication infrastructure, and overall expericence, JFK Airport gets one large, massive, unavoidable, overdue [...]

Live and direct from the Empire State... During the holiday season... In Times Square... I think this video accurately displays the feelings and sentiments of the hour... Hope to see all the NY folks out tonight... Its going down! Snow is fun to play in, just not in the city... Shout out to the homie L-Pain, visiting the perfect snow to play in.

Now that things are back to normal I'll keep dropping the lainks. Enjoy... Royce da 5293 - Shake This Royce da 5293 - Shake This Music Video

This isn't necessarily new at all , but one can only imagine how many Preemo/DITC fans have either not heard this or gotten to have a copy of it. Clockwork Music has unearthed it, though, and its set to drop on a Remix LP coming in 2010 ?! Lord Finesse "Keep The Crowd Listening (DJ Premier Remix)" ( mirror )
The DJ Premier produced "Shake This" is the lead-single for Street Hop (the LP is also executive produced by DJ Premier as well) and the video for "Shake This" is directed by Rik Cordero; and its the first of two collaborations between Royce and Cordero.
FYI: the track samples David Axelrod 's "The Smile" from the Songs of Innocence album. Download the track here .

Words By S. Cadet So coming back home from a great Thanksgiving break I was brand new to the fact that Port Authority would be crowded as hell. I finally get on the bus and took what seemed like a few minutes short of forever to get out of Manhattan. I thought to myself "OK, maybe this trip will take a little longer than usual." I figured that I'd get back by about 10 at the latest. I've [...]

The background: " DJ Concept has put together a funky collection of instrumentals, rare grooves and soulful smoke-out vibes into a double volume of goodness. W.E.X.E. is an hour-long unwinding of one's soul. Always known to follow his own path, DJ Concept draws another simple blueprint of what goes on in the lounge areas of NYC's best buddah spots. Most of these smoke-filled funk tracks have been sampled by the greats like Pete Rock , Dr. Dre , Rza , DJ Premier and so many more. Grab a pack smokes, a fine [...]
