DJ Shadow – The Less You Know, The Better (Verve) O DJ Shadow não é novo. Já tem 15 anos de carreira nas costas. E a experiência que ele obteve na música eletrônica parece não ter afetado a produção do seu quarto álbum de estúdio, o The Less You Know, The Better. O problema é que a mistura de gêneros que o artista propõe passa dos limites e soa como uma mistura de sons sem sentido. A melhor palavra que define isso é "bagunça". O álbum [...]

Good time are to be had by all today. Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Aids Wolf, Feist & We Were Promised Jetpacks are at the top of my shopping list. It's not really a shopping list though. That was a total lie and I am sorry for it. Aids Wolf: Ma Vie Banale Avant-Garde Annie Crane: Jump With a Child's Heart The Asteroid Shop: The Asteroid Shop Big Tree: This New Year Blind [...]
It's unfair to compare every new record to a back catalog masterwork, but that doesn't mean you can't hold artists to a higher standard. DJ Shadow may end up only having one Endtroducing... in him, but that's one more than most musicians can claim. His new album, The Less You Know, The Better , lacks the cohesiveness of his best work. While it's not as stylistically scattershot as 20062s The Outsider , it fails to immerse listeners in the same way as his landmark debut or even sophomore record. [...]
DJ Shadow featuring Yukimi Nagano "Scale It Back" I recently interviewed DJ Shadow for a Rolling Stone video thing . At some point in our conversation, I made a point of asking him about this song. At the time we talked, I had the record but not any liner notes, so I was curious as to how much of this composition was made up of live instrumentation. By his reckoning, this track is about 90% samples pulled from a variety of sources. This sort of blows my mind, but it really shouldn't [...]

DJ Shadow - The Less You Know, The Better Verve: 2011 Like many, I can still remember the first time I listened to Endtroducing... , the classic 1996 DJ Shadow debut LP that catapulted Josh Davis into what in the '90s equated to indie stardom. The opening introduction track, "Best Foot Forward" was an announcement with no small amount of earned bravado: "Guess who's coming?/ DJ Shadow/ Back again/ Who is he?/ Just your favorite DJ savior" Davis spun from a collection of crate-dug records, and the rest of the record [...]
Maybe it's just one of the cosmic moments that I've finally cracked into my new copy of the DJ Shadow record, The Less You Know The Better , and only now finally get to the song "I've Been Trying" on the cusp of the end of Pink Floyd Week ... Or maybe it's just random that he's perfectly mixed in some of the "Wish You Were Here" classic into a soulful groove. I think I hear some Steely Dan in there, too... Related posts: [...]
I've played this lovely tune off DJ Shadow's new album soooo many times over the last few days. Brilliant. Genius. Beautiful. It has given me goosebumps several times the past few rainy days we've had here in Chicago. I think it's time for me to visit Little Dragon's discography. DJ Shadow's "The Less You Know, The Better" hits iTunes on Oct 4th!

There's been a lot of album streams posted the last couple weeks. These are just three that I was pretty excited about so I thought I'd share them. Two of them ( Youth Lagoon and Spank Rock ) I've talked about on here before; the other is DJ Shadow , which if you haven't listened to his music before, you need to start right now. Youth Lagoon 's debut The Year Hibernation is streaming right now over at Spin , Spank Rock [...]

Josh David aka DJ Shadow has a new album out and you can head over to NPR for the first listen. Shadow is one of those still DJ's who is still an embodiment of what the old hip hop DJ's stood for. On the turntables he is an artist and an out there producer of great things. Hit the jump to get the first listen. DJ Shadow - "The Less You Know, The Better"

I've been experimenting with glitch, electronica and sample-based instrumental hip-hop for sometime now. Here's a brief roundup of all the tracks I've come to adore. DJ Shadow is on a league on its own and is the only reason I have any respect for hip-hop. South Californian edIT's featured tracks are from his close-to-perfect debut album Crying Over Pros for No Reason released back in '04. Also keep in mind that Gerhard Behles of Monolake went on to found [...]

DJ Shadow is back people, mark my words. While I doubt The Less You Know, The Better will make the same impact that Entroducing... did back in 1996, he is sitting on a pretty solid piece of music. Anyway, I don't want to spoil things for you, in case you haven't already latched on to the many awesome singles that have already been released from this album. With that said NPR is streaming The Less You Know, The Better in full, right now. Also, the album is [...]

After another long break, DJ Shadow returns to his roots with an album that mostly brings to mind The Private Press . Disliking things is easier than liking them. This digital age phenomenon isn't exactly a new discovery, but it does feel much more prominent in the age of unfiltered opinion sharing and thought diarrhea that is message boards and user reviews. I'm not immune from this, but when it comes to certain albums I can sometimes sense that it will be one of those releases for which everything is in doubt. The Less You Know, the...
