by Bill Pearis We've been waiting to see Scottish quartet Django Django ever since hearing their debut single two years ago, so Brooklyn Vegan is pleased as punch to be presenting with Popgun Booking the group's first-ever U.S. show at Glasslands on Saturday, March 10 . It's a late show (doors 11:30), happening after the Daughter performance early that night, and will also feature the Stateside debut of Warp artist Kwes. . Consider [...]

Tweet Ultimately it is the groove that wins the day, a circular swing that should turn the moshpit at your local indie emporium into a sweaty mass of individuals unable to exert self-control in the face of such elegance. And you are likely to be hearing a lot more from the Edinburgh quartet given that their self-titled debut has been on the receiving end of a plethora of critical laurels. They're given to the guitars but aren't afraid to fraternise with the [...]

Tweet "Django Django" is an album of two halfs. The opening seven tracks are a mad art-pop romp, absolutely living up to the hype that surrounded Django Django on the release of their debut single "Storm/Love's Dart" back in 2009. Come the last six tracks, though, Django Django seem to be completely out of ideas, reviving their first single and rehashing the same sounds with far less enthusiasm and imagination. [...]

What's good y'all, this is a Scottish band called Django Django , they just released their self titled album very recently. The album is actually pretty sick. This is going to sound weird, but its like a grunge-pop-rock combo that really works for these guys. Plus their name is just hilarious. Check out this sample of the album, it's called "Storm." The American music scene is full of fresh acts to be excited about, but we're usually a little late when it comes to the European talent. We always hear about these new artists out of England, France, Sweden, or Iceland, and by the time we're catching on in the States, we're months beyond the rest of the world. Maybe it's because we're egocentric Americans, interested only in hearing our own voices. Luckily, we've got a secret weapon. P&P contributor Constant Gardner is from London and currently living in Paris. He's European, so by nature he's inferior to Americans, but he happens [...]

"This is a band with a serious intellect, a sharp wit, and a knack for subversive hooks..." Django Django are four men who met at Edinburgh College of Art in 2008. Among many other British bands they can play guitar, bass, drums and sing. Given the current climate, this doesn't sound too appealing does it? However three years in the making after an initial hype frenzy over their debut single Storm they have managed to produce a self-titled debut album. On top of that, it happens to be one of the most [...]

The fact that this album is self-titled makes the headline for this post look like a bit of a joke, doesn't it. How many Djangos does one album title need, after all. Anyhow, at the risk of repeating a little bit too much of this week's podcast , these guys have been described in a few places, somewhat tenuously, as an Edinburgh band. It's a nice thought, but while they did indeed emerge, to the best of my knowledge, from the Edinburgh College of Art, I think they're now based in London and have released their debut [...]

"Hail Bop," the first proper track from Django Django's self-titled long player, crossfades in from the animal croaks and calls, the utterings both machine and human, of the album's introduction. With that track (understandably entitled, "Introduction") it's as though the band has asked for just a couple minutes of our time in order that they tune up their instruments and warm up their voices. Given the circumstances – it seems as though the band is setting up in the middle of a rainforest – we oblige. Sure enough, by the time "Hail Bop" begins officially, a moment signaled by [...]

OK, we're cutting in one for a New Music Monday, so I'm going to make this a quickie. The fact that it's quick doesn't detract from the quality of the tunes though. They're all whoppers today. Now, I know that these aren't all super new songs, but I've only discovered them recently myself. Perhaps I should rename this post type 'New To Me Music Monday'. I'm going to post Howler 'Back Of Your Neck' first as it has been stuck in my head all day. This is probably because it was on the radio earlier, [...]

Ah, Tartan Shortbread, that most wonderful of sardonic Scottish put-downs. For those unfamiliar with the term, this is the offhand dismissal used to describe the sort of mawkish, clichéd tourist tat which masquerades as Scottish heritage and culture for those with woefully little imagination. Alternatively, I suppose you could say that Tartan Shortbread is a blanket term for Scottish heritage as a sort of motorway service station take on national identity. Anyhow, given I work very much at the coalface of the DIY music world in Scotland, I find that I have been oddly unsupportive of [...]
As much as I hate to perpetuate lazy comparisons, on first listen of San Francisco 's Night Genes it's hard not to reference the singer from The National . But I'll one-up it with another reference: Steve Sallet from King of France / The Poison Tree . Regardless of familiar timbre, the trio's touches of electropop and bright melodies help them stand on their own and make 'em one to add to your shopping list. Enjoy thoroughly. I always get lots of thrills when I receive stuff from Kitsuné's signees in my mailbox. Parisians Logo dropped their remix for Django Django's 'Default' today. Due to some circumstances, the single wasn't able to make it on time. The duo wants to share it with you anyway, so here's their Wednesday night love for you:

El año pasado les puse por aqui el mas reciente sencillo de Django Django y aunque es de esos tracks que enrealidad no aportan nada nuevo, si nos brindan unos momentos bastante agradable con su coro que hasta cierto punto despues de un par de escuchadas se torna un tanto pegajoso. " Default " salio a la venta de manera oficial hace un par de dias a traves del sello Because Music yy como seguramente ya se habran enterado (y si no, pues aqui estoy), el sencillo oficial de este track de Django Django esta acompañado [...]
