I fucking hate winter. It's so bloody cold. But then, if you came by in the summer, you'll know that me and the heat aren't exactly best mates either. Does anyone know any way of fastforwarding to spring. Or rewinding to Autumn. I'm not fussy. I'll take either. I think the only thing I do like about winter is that my music listening takes on a darker, more epic slant. Tis the season of post rock . It can feel so desolate. Like a windswept landscape. Empty except for that [...]

What it says... These past couple months have been very strange for me, musically. I've been jumping back and forth from indiepop to instrumental post rock, skipping pretty much everything inbetween along the way. I just happen to enjoy the opposite ends of the spectrum more than anything else between them, but it's still funny to think about listening something like Mogwai and then switching right over to a band like Tiger Trap. Anyway, as you know, I've already made an Twee Pop Mix, and I'm still in the middle of a [...]

I remember living in Toronto when Broken Social Scene's You Forgot it in People came out. It was the type of album that seemed to leak into the air. People were talking about it all over the city. Conversations with any music fan would invitably bend towards singing its praises. My roomate at the time brought it home soon after the hype started, and we were both blown away. It sounded like indie rock fiberboard...tiny pieces of bigger things tightly packed together and compressed until they took shape. It wasn't until later that [...]

So yesterday the second All Tomorrow's Parties weekend of 2007 was announced, and it all sounds rather exciting. Half of the lineup will be picked by the ATP gang (current bands including Sparklehorse, Akron, Built To Spill), whilst the other half will be made up of bands voted for by those attending. The ATP site has the full details. I am uber-excited, this being the first festival I will have been to in almost 3 years, and I can't bloomin wait to cast my vote. Anyway one of the other bands announced are Canada's Do Make Say Think, [...]
A little bit of everything to help ease you through this particular Friday. Hope to see all you Capetonians at the Taxi Violence gig at Mercury tonight. If not for you, I'll try to have some other options up for you later in the day. Listen: The Wrens - Happy Voxtrot - Trouble White ...

mp3: When the Day Chokes the Night Dear Do Make Say Think, So recently in a post I talked about how I hated saxa-maphones. I was quickly rebutted by my sister Jen with one amazing song: "Who can it be now?" by Men at Work...Man, that song is great, because the guy is like "who can it be now?" and the saxophone is like "do-do-da-daa-da-da". So, maybe my heart is softening to my reeded brass instrument just a little bit. Additionally, your band is all I have [...]

Today officially marks the first day of fall, which is my favorite time of the year. It's definitely what I look forward to most with the transition into winter being the next. To me it's the most beautiful time time to be outside here in Auburn, walking around campus and taking in the changing leaves and the cool weather as the nights get just cold enough to put on a jacket (which is my favorite kind of weather). Some of my favorite memories happened during this as well, so that just adds to why [...]

Plus mp3s of the following Broken Social Scene songs: "Our Faces Split The Coast In Half" "Fire Eye'd Boy" Meanwhile, the cleverly-named We Hate Your Hate has posted mp3s by both bands... here [...]

Dreamland When midnight mists are creeping, And all the land is sleeping, Around me tread the mighty dead, And slowly pass away. Lo, warriors, saints, and sages, From out the vanished ages, With solemn pace and reverend face Appear and pass away. ... - Lewis Carroll "Serpentskirt - Una Furtiv" 01. Cocteau Twins [...]
