W ardt van der Harst & W illem van Hanegem are back with Alpha yet another tech-trance BOMB. There's not a spark of doubt that W&W are riding the big wave these days, playing all over the world and leaving elephant-sized imprints in the minds of their fans. They've also been given huge support from Armin van Buuren who continues to spin their furiously phat beats in many of his sets; earlier this year at ASOT 450 he said "W&W are truly the rising stars of trance. If I have to put [...]

Bruce Gilbert was always an odd fish, even in Wire, the oddest punk band of them all. Already 30 when they formed, he seemed more like a college professor than a band member. When he later began to release music under his own name it was apparent that he was more at home in electroacoustic and noise music territory than in anything resembling pop. Gilbert released a flood of material, starting in 1980. Together with co-conspirator Graham Lewis, he recorded four albums as Dome, their lo-fi music sounding like tape scrapings from Wire sessions, odd vocal exercises, frustration [...]

Of all the posts that have shown up on the proliferous Cargo Culte blog, the one I have gone back to quite often is I Hate Art, Can't Stand It , which provides a nice companion soundtrack to Simon Reynolds' book Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984. With the permission of the Demagogues of the Cargo Culte, I have compiled 15 more hits from Art Punk's formative years. Some of the bands are mentioned in Reynolds' book; others are [...]
Worship This track is part 1 of a synth-laden 'trilogy' called The Dome. Very visual music, calling to mind simultaneously classic prog-rock influences such as Camel and Pink Floyd, as well as gloomier bits of more contemporary French synth-scape stuff such as Air or Daft Punk. The ultimate soundtrack for an aquatic, despondent Manga movie. You can buy the EP here . Worship - Underwater Dome 1 ( mp3 )

After three experimental albums as Dome, former Wire members Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis found themselves contemplating the empty space of the Waterloo Gallery. The Gallery had been used for their exhibition with Russell Mills, but now stood vacant and beckoning. Together with drummer Peter Price, they began to entertain the idea of a band to fill the space, one that might bring together the spoken word and sound collage techniques they had grown increasingly interested in. Among the group of artists with whom they shared this beckoning space was David Tidball, who contributed words and ideas, and [...]

When it's ebbing for them it's waving for me. Since we gave you the fantastic A.C. Marias album One Of Our Girls (Has Gone Missing) we have been hot on the trail of her more obscure items. Now we can offer eight tracks that trace the arc of her musical output from the very origins. Which means Dome, the Gilbert & Lewis project that came about in 1980 as the first incarnation of Wire broke up. This is the purest art formulation of these [...]

NYC Premiere for No Wave Cinema Doc Blank City Dan Selzer: A year or so ago some friends of mine asked me if I wanted to help out on this movie they were working on, a documentary focusing on the no wave cinema scene that emerged in NYC in the late 70s. I talked my way into becoming the "music supervisor" of their movie, Blank City, and began suggesting music to use. I didn't realize how serious the project was until I finally saw the rough cut, [...]

I name this moment eternity And wait for it to pass. Three Rooms There's no-one in the first room. A light shines in through the far side window, splintered by the vertical blinds into parallel courses, channels that guide dust from the ceiling to the floor and back again. The couch is red and comes to life under the play of filtered sunlight. "Dappled" is the word people use when they want to be poetic. A student of dance lives here; you can tell from the magazines on [...]

Tonight you should join me in heading to Milwaukee's Mitchell Park Conservatory aka The Domes for The Championship's "Music Under Glass" show. What a great place to see a show. Those things look like spaceships when they're all lit up. Looking forward to it. If you're not familiar with The Championship , I urge you to give them a listen. They are a little bit of Springsteen, Johnny Cash, and Romantica. They're a band with a country influence/sound that would be a welcome listen to anyone [...]

Now this may be a bit of blatant Blog piracy, but thanks must go out to Discodust for this gem. Taken from Worship's mini opera 'The Dome parts I/II & III' the opening sequence titled 'Underwater (part I)' has my ears melting from fade in to fade out. This track is all about those wonderful chord progressions, the combination of the choice of chords and choice of synth sound makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. The rest of 'The Dome' is also great and gets a bit more upbeat as [...]
Bar25 there are no words. I'm like 90% sure i'm gonna buy a place in berlin just because of that bar, it's so much fun. Met up with arthur and friends(Video above) because Jamie (Acid Girls) put in a word and got me on there list at the club. We danced to minimal and some vocal 90s house, while people around us popped all kinds of pills and went swinging on giant swings over the river and things. Ran into peaches and her husband, and she basically talked me into buying a house in Berlin. The video [...]
