The Dodos (San Francisco, CA) Rock Insider has had a long love affair with The Dodos. First as members of the backing band for Peter And The Wolf, then as Dodo Bird, and now as much praised and loved Dodos. Their latest release Visiter is easily one of top records of the year for not just me but half of bloggerdom. I've watched this band go from playing small shows at the Silverlake Lounge

*pictured above: Islands performing on the Main Stage Seven years ago I ventured out to the Village Voice's inaugural Siren Music Festival . I'd only been living in the city for twelve days, I didn't have a whole lot of extra spending money, and I didn't know anyone who'd be there except for the eight bands on the bill. It was my first visit ever to Coney Island and I had a blast; vowing to return again and again. I can't say that I've attended every year since, but I have [...]
Updates have been rather sparse this week cause I just started this new job and I don't even get half as much sleep as I used to, which wasn't very much at all in the first place. This means I am more exhausted than I've been in years and I can barely drive myself [...]
My favorite radio station to tune into in Hickory is a public radio station out of Isothermal College called WNCW. Topher and I were driving around last night listening to NPR's Second Stage and a band called The Dodos, singing a song called Walking, caught my attention. I'm turbo excited ...
Sometimes all it takes is two. This energetic duo somehow found the perfect combination of beats, power, folk, and honey and called it The Dodos. Every song on their new album Visiter in infused with this fervency but overlaid with these soft crooner vocals. Needless to say, this band is going to [...]
Who: El Perro Del Mar + Lykke Li When: May 7th + May 8th Where: Joe's Pub + Bowery Ballroom More Dates Listen: El Perro Del Mar - "God Knows (You Gotta Give to Get)" Lykke Li - "I'm Good. I'm Gone" Thoughts: I have become truly obsessed with Lykke Li's song "I'm Good. I'm Gone", plus last year at about this time I was obsessed with El Perro Del Mar. So now you're telling me that you're putting

The Dodos are one of the red hot bands in SF right now and it's pretty easy to understand why. Experimental, but with pop sensibilities, The Dodos are here to stay! They have a new album coming out March 18th on French Kiss entitled, "Visiter". They play an already sold out show at Noise Pop, then cut across the southwest to Austin for SXSW! Time to throw in a comparison to another artist - a more accessible Panda Bear! The Dodos - Fools The Dodos [...]
The Dodo is back... well The Dodos at least. Two piece band from California with a homemade sound. Sort of a country music acoustic guitar with an intense almost metal set of drums. The recordings are great and sound like you are right at the front row of a live performance. Very cool band [...]

I guess I've just about resigned myself to the fact that this is a one-post-a-month site, at least for the time being, as well as the reality that freed isn't posting anything, ever. But I'm gonna keep doing the monthly mixes , and every now and then I'll feel inspired enough to do a quick posting. Right now, it's The Dodos , a 2-piece that I saw open for Les Savy Fav in December . They immediately made me think of a mix between Two Gallants and Rogue Wave, so when I found out that they were [...]

Download: The Dodos - Nerds The Dodos are from my hometown San Francisco. They're another guitar/drum power duo but a bit more on the experimental side of the tracks. Most seem to embrace the blues straight up. The dodos make their own special kind of noise. So much so that they'll be playing the Noise Pop Fest. They are headlining the show on Feb. 28th at Cafe Du Nord with Or, The Whale. That should be a great night. Visit: The Dodos

Southern California is going to experience rain for the first time in 5 months this weekend as a winter storm moves inland off the coast. Temperatures are going to drop considerably and heavy showers are expected on Friday. [ Read More At NBC4] The second even a drop of water hits SoCal freeways L.A. motorists turn into raving idiots. I can't wait for SUVs with 26" gold plated spinners to blaze past me at 75 MPH tomorrow during my commute. Seriously though, don't be moron. If [...]

Happy labor day to those who celebrate. Or something. Some stuff I've found on blogs/been given recently: --- When Mclusky broke up, I was pretty sad - talk about a fun band that knew how to rock out. So Georgy (our other Monday poster) alerted me that the new song from the singer and drummer was out. The band's name is Future of the Left, and this song kicks ass: " adeadenemyalwayssmellsgood ." --- [...]

The Dodos say they're coming my way, so I figured I better get a better handle on their 2006 album Beware of the Maniacs . The Dodos are just a two-man group, but they create a big sound. Formerly known as Dodo Bird, they're made up of singer/songwriter Meric Long and "aspiring Dave Grohl protégé" Logan Kroeber. I don't much get into Animal Collective, but these guys have been compared to those indie all-stars, so that should definitely peak some interest in some of you. Long's voice definitely [...]
I`d be the first to admit with struggling through the complex arrangements of acoustic folk , confused by it`s artistic merits or maybe even guilty of many a half listen or two. It`s taken something very good , indeed quite special , to appreciate the genre that is all to often relegated to background music. San Francisco duo Meric Long & Logan Kroeber manage to somehow strip down & re-invent folk in the same uncompromising way blues pioneers `The Black Keys`achieved [...]
