Yesterday was Record Store Day, a day that see many exclusive releases, record stores throwing parties of all kinds, and basically just a fun day for music

Seattle indie singer-songwriter Damien Jurado is an experimentalist at heart, a literate musician who built his career on a cult following, early collaborative work as an indie rock band member with high school compatriot David Bazan, and a set of early self-released, cassette-only lo-fi experimental recordings featuring found sounds, neo-punk sensibilities, and carefully constructed, heartbreakingly elegant deconstructions of tonality and narrative images. And though more recent albums, such as 2010 masterwork Saint Bartlett and aptly celebrated new 2012 release Maraquopa, feature rich harmonic elements and hollow, crystalline atmospheres mixed with the rhythmic and sonic nuances [...]
::: Photo by Josh Lovseth For last night's very sold out Little Big Show benefiting ArtsCorps, Pickwick was no doubt the main attraction. But in the bigger picture this week has been about the release of Damien Jurado's 10th LP titled Maraqopa. All this week the Seattle Times Andrew Matson has been premiering four [...]
Remember when we said we’d share our list of 25 other unmissable records the first week of January? Whoops. Thing is, the first month of this new year, we were still listening to and falling in (and out) of love with records from 2011. Discovering albums we should’ve shared months ago and finding out what [...]
I've already shared my favorite songs with you and told you a little bit about my personal MVP, but here are a few more of my favorite things from 2011. My Favorite Albums of 2011: 1. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues 2. Zoe Muth and The Lost High Rollers - Starlight Hotel 3. Charles Bradley - No [...]

2011 has turned out to be the year in music where I found myself resting, and drinking deeply. If you look at the three major music festivals I went to in 2011 (other than SXSW, which is always a debaucherous 1000-mph wonderful mess) they were all of the scenic, restorative type: camping at Sasquatch at Washington's Columbia River Gorge, Telluride Bluegrass where I pitched my tent right by a rushing river, and Doe Bay Fest on isolated Orcas Island in the San Juans. The ethos of these music festivals, more than anything, is a [...]

Kelli Schaefer ::: photo by Dylan Priest Having fallen deep down a used-vinyl sized hole this year, I managed to completely miss most of the national blog buzz bands and mp3s making the press release copy&paste rounds of 2011, those things that so often fill end of the year lists. But considering the immense output from [...]
BEST OF 2011 : Songs | Albums (soon) | EPs/Singles | Discoveries/Heavy Rotation | Photos A really good year! The first 40 or so are mega-jams and the latter 38 (Rawkblog loves you, baby) are still jams. I purposefully left out songs by Destroyer because I couldn't decide, so consider Kaputt represented. You can play the entire page with the handy Ex.fm player in the bottom right corner, stream the playlist on Spotify and Rdio , and download everything after the jump. [...]

Dolorean – The Unfazed. Download “Thinskinned” (mp3). This is the fourth album from the Portland based folk rock group. Singer Al James’s vocals tenderly pass over top this meticulous and mellifluous music. With a combination of acoustic and electric guitars, moving piano lines and sustaining organ parts, the music has a meditative and relaxed feel that finds a way to also be engaging and alluring.

From the 2011 Tracks Not To Miss Dept.: Dolorean's "Thinskinned," the Jackson Browne song of the year. The rest of latest album The Unfazed , unfortunately, spends too much time running on empty, but man, this chorus! Dolorean - "Thinskinned": mp3 ( The Unfazed is out now on Partisan Records ; stream it on Spotify ) Want more music like this delivered to your Spotify inbox? Thought I would post on my top LAST.FM artists of the last 6 months for your perusal and judgment. While not completely accurate of my listening as there is still listen to music non-stop during my commute to work (2 hours daily) and my sad basement day job that don't get scrobbled to Last.fm for these charts. Overall I feel they reflect what I am listening to, but some artists may be up or down a spot or two. Let's get on with it! ~Slowcoustic's Last 6 months of top artists playlist~ [...]

Since being laid off from my day job last year, my life has been almost strictly new chapters. Unemployment. Food Stamps. Booking shows at Columbia City Theater. Doing PR for Columbia City Theater. Trying to find a way to make money off Sound on the Sound while remaining true to our ideals and intentions (still [...]
Today we kick off our Best Songs of 2011 series, albeit a bit early - but there are hundreds and hundreds of songs that we have to post in the coming months, so, no sense in waiting too long. Afterall, with the kids back in school, and summer over, 2011 is hurdling to conclusion. So, [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
