Image from scrapetv I'm taking off in the morning for Berlin for a conference and then a couple weeks of traveling around through the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Amsterdam, and Paris, so I most likely won't be posting for a while. Or, who knows, maybe I'll get inspired. But hopefully I'll be too busy soaking in the local cultures and sucking down the local brews. Here are a couple tracks I've been digging lately before I hit the road. Just going to be quick with this so I can get [...]

. This Week we've got hot beats on the hot streets. SOFTWEEK062: THE BIG RED SOUNDS OF SPORTS CARS A Tracklist will be posted tomorrow. Dance, dance, dance around those dangly curves.

my oh my. Voice, Piston McMaxx invited his lady-friends out to the spin spot, Stallion Quarters , for their first techno experience. One thing led to another and what started as mixing just tracks became stirring mixed drinks with a splash of microphone shenanigans. Piston let his hair down for this one! Listen to SofT Week 058 Now SofT Week regular Shaun Tudor pulls out those stops and dusts off the deep sexy vinyl house. Haven't lost [...]
Shaun Tudor and I got up to no good Friday night. While we were planning to set up some mics, have some drinks, listen to some tunes, and yell at stuff we realized that we forgot to bring mic stands!!! After 23 minutes of agonizing banter between us, we got civilized and set out to play music that didn't require just 1 turntable -- NO. It didn't require just 2 either, that would be just too normal for strapping chaps such as ourselves. Not even 2 turntables and 1 CDJ would have sufficed.... We [...]

Big room, mainstream house is the flavor of the week and it's spiced to perfection. These are quite possibly, the smoothest, most bangin', well-written house tracks in existence. Only few will ever be able to produce quality like this. I hope to get there one day. Listen to SofT Week 048 What do you think? Do these tracks make you move? I know many will instantly scoff at the word 'mainstream'. And 90% of the time I'm with you, but there are [...]
Wooo! Back in Paris now after about 10 days of traveling through Turkey. The trip was a great time. The weather managed to be shit for most of it, but we got a few beautiful days at key points. Wandered around Istanbul at the beginning and got to see the Aya Sofya (Hagia Sophia), which I've always wanted to do. It's truly an incredible building, and something everyone should see. The mosaics and frescoes inside are beautiful, and the structure itself is crazy. I can't imagine how a dome so high was built almost 1500 years ago. The Blue Mosque, [...]

Only 3 tunes up as our songs of the week, but I think you'll be pleasantly tickled by them. It was kind of an accident that the first 2 tunes I picked out this week had horns in them. And so I rounded it off with a three horn track pack. Listen to SofT Week 046 uhh NOW! I must say that I really love well placed horns in music. In my younger days I wasn't such a fan, but there really is nothing like [...]

It was another busy week last week, finishing up grant applications and trying to get all my work done before spring break. One of my best friends from home got into grad school last week, so I went up to Wesleyan University to visit him and to celebrate. Downtown Middletown was much nicer than I expected (which is often people's response to New Haven, as well), and I liked the neighborhoods around campus. The social scene there wasn't too different, although people head out a bit later than my usual routine. Surprisingly diverse campus, too, for a small liberal arts [...]
Ok, what? Dom does minimal ? Well, not so much, but this time, yes. :) My good friend Shaunie sent me his newest a couple days ago, and it was top notch. Inspiration struck and I've found the best of the best minimal and slapped a SofT Week together. Listen to SofT Week 043 NOW dude. It's hard to keep track of where all these tracks come from, but I'm pretty sure a few are from the very fantastic site Keytars [...]

With all the gimmicky 3D hoopla going around earlier this week with the (lame) 3D super bowl pre-half time 3D exatravaganza. I just used the word "3D" three times in the last sentence. I thought it would be a healthy business move if I jumped on the 3D gravy train and milked for all it's worth. Listen to SofT Week 040 NOW You'll find that these BARELY THERE 3D antics are a testament to the quality standards that major media outlets like this site and NBC [...]
Chubby cheeks and delicatessen robots are served up on a platter of progressive deep house and disco diamonds for our 39th Edition of SofT Week. If that doesn't make sense now, then it probably never will. Listen to SofT Week 039 !NOW! (Edit: Sunday, Feb 1, 2009; 12:28am - fixed file) Some big tracks to get to, let's just let the music play out. Tracklist ( 16m57s 17m17s) Robert Dietz - Shunsower George [...]
Hello, househeads. This week we've got a room full of Carnys banging beats on stolen gear. The problem is, their little cabbage hands can't keep the beat fast enough. But little Timmy Hamberlin wants to dance! so the beat keeps on. In other words, the jams are slow (100 bpm) and fresh (check the tracklist). Listen To SofT Week 036 Now It's slow as Sunday drivers this time around and we're all the better for it. We'll be safe and groovy all [...]
Minneapolis Minnesota is home to up and coming DJ/producer Thom Derus (a.k.a. Dom Terrace.) He sent some of his productions from the past couple of months and I couldn't be more chuffed. Thick analogue house music that has bags of dance floor appeal mixed with a solid electro base. One of the benefits of running a page is the gmail goodies that are available every day after my wage slavery. I don't know what I would do without them. Thank you Thom for sending these gems to all of us na dmaking my job just a [...]
So, this is the awkward time of year, where my birthday is lumped in with Chanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Christmas Eve, Russian Orthodox Christmas, probably some saints' days, and, most likely, a national holiday in Swaziland or somewhere like that. I've been back in Maine for over a week now, and really enjoying it. There's been a lot of snow, which has meant skiing, snowshoeing, and (unfortunately) shoveling. But I've even managed to miss shoveling while down at school. Yesterday, or more accurately two days ago, was my 21st birthday, so finally, after years of drinking illegally, [...]
