Montreal's Domestic Crisis Group pull into Toronto for CMW before heading into the studio to record a new full length album. The self-described 'melancountry' duo are always worth catching, especially with new material in the pipe. Here's the video for "The Breaks", from their stellar EP Two Tired Hearts : CMW performance : Date: Mar 21 Time: 12:00am Venue: Dakota Tavern

Winter comes early in New England. We hoard pellets for the stove, sandbagging the porch against the coming months; we watch our breath before us as we pack it in, and smile, and huddle into our coats. The crate of winter sweaters and scarves takes its ceremonial place by the door, ready for travelers duty-bound to brave the frozen world. Frost covers the windshield when we wake, and makes the brown-gold grass crunch and twinkle in the light of a bright full moon. Though the solstice doesn't arrive until late [...]
Montreal folk/country duo Domestic Crisis Group had one of my favorite EPs of 2010. Now they are back with a new single, a cover of Gordon Lightfoot's "Song For A Winter's Night". The track appeared on Herohill's tribute album to Lightfoot. You can hear the song here. I managed to catch Domestic Crisis Group when they came to Toronto for CMW. You can read my impressions here.

So hear it is. The result of months of hard work from some of our favorite bands across this nation (and even a special cameo from one of our favorite American outfits). Basically, the idea was simple: Pay tribute to a Canadian legend on Canada Day. Oh, and get some free content for the blog of course. In all seriousness, Gordon Lightfoot has been making music for decades and his stories are passed from generation to generation. Unfortunately, when asked about the greatest Canadian songwriters, Gordon is often left off the list. [...]

Hey, folks. We are putting the final details on something special for Canada Day, but since the lovely and talented Lana Gay was kind enough to have us on CBC3 today to talk about the project, we thought it made sense to release a trailer of sorts. Basically, we begged and pleaded with some of our favorite artists and cobbled together a massive tribute to the man, the icon, Gordon Lightfoot. Tomorrow we will put the whole kit and kaboodle online for any music lover to grab for free, but to whet your appetite [...]
Day 2 of Canadian Music Week means it's time for me to ramp things up after a leisurely opening night. The first stop of the night was The Piston to catch Montreal's Domestic Crisis Group, a show that was rescheduled at the last minute. I believe this was the duo's first appearance in Toronto, and hopefully not their last. Showcasing their self-described "melancountry" they reinforced what I
Montreal duo Domestic Crisis Group had my favorite EP of 2010 (review here). This week they come to Toronto to play a pair of shows as part of Canadian Music Fest, which I am really looking forward to. Check out the video for "The Breaks": The Domestic Crisis Group - The Breaks from Chuck & Twist on Vimeo. CMW performances: Date: March 10th Time: 12:00am Venue: Free Times Cafe Date: March

You shouldn't judge a band by its name. Which why I thought the Montreal band Domestic Crisis Group was. With a name like that I thought it was a some punk rock band. This band released an EP called "Two Tired Hearts". I found out that their music was played on CBC Radio Montreal's show Cinq à six . But it happens to be a guy-girl duo from Montreal. Similar to acts like Snowblink and Handsome Furs (more in a folk-pop style). Here [...]
Domestic Crisis Group's "Two Tired Hearts" is an RV tramp through America, circa the not-so-distant economic crisis of 2009. More like it: CD Review: "For Life" by Hearts of Palm UK Brit girl group hanging it up? Music videos that warm our hearts...
Domestic Crisis Group is the Montreal duo of Dane Ratliff and Genevieve Blouin. They've recently released a new 5-song EP titled Two Tired Hearts. What strikes you first about Domestic Crisis Group's music is the twangy nature of the songs. But it doesn't take long for the other aspects to seep in and make their presence known, creating a far more complex sound than you get at first blush. A
