Since becoming one of the dominant forms of modern entertainment, pop music has tried to compress the sound of summer into the confines of the three-minute song. The Beach Boys provided the blueprint for the "summer tune" by creating pop sketches that felt light like a mid-August breeze, but could subtly have the depth of the deepest ocean. Many have made attempts to harness that magic, with so few able to prevail. For every Brian Wilson there's a Seals & Crofts or [...]
Just because the Eagles are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame doesn't mean Don Henley is buying into the whole thing. In fact, for the band's stalwart songwriter, singer and drummer, it's quite the opposite. "I'm not crazy about the whole idea of a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," Henley tells Andre Gardner of WMGK. "It seems [...]

If Eagles fans felt a certain familiarity about the soaring guitar heard last Sunday on Showtime's "Homeland" series, here's why: The November 11, 2012 episode featured the lead single from former guitarist Don Felder's new solo project, "Fall from the Grace of Love." Felder, a four-time Grammy winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, best-selling author and key contributor to [...]

Harlan - Dirty Laundry [Don Henley] | bx . watch the original

[Covers: Sometimes the songs don't remain the same ...] Harlan , "Dirty Laundry" — Few artists inhabit the late 1970s and early ’80s with such proficiency and zeal as Harlan, whose debut EP (and recent live shows, including the Echo residency, above) revealed him as a shredder/soul man who plays it so close to the vest you can't tell whether he's being ironic. We don't think he is, but you won't care. Here , with vocal [...]

It feels lately that new acts trying to make a name for themselves start by coming out with a cover whether it be an oldie but a goodie or something extremely recent. Today's covers cover both ends of that spectrum and I'm extremely smitten with Anabot's take on the punch you in the mouth track from Japandroids' new material, "the House That Heaven Built." Each cover takes a successful jab at the original and does the song justice. The "Dirty Laundry" cover is an immediate upgrade. I had always found Don Henley slightly annoying and the accompanying [...]

And it keeps getting funnier. Writing on his Tumblr page, Ocean now reportedly says the Eagles are jealous of his work, intimating that a threatened lawsuit over copyright infringement is personal - [...]

Up top is a screenshot of a Frank Ocean Tumblr post claiming that the Eagles' Don Henley is trying to sue him for his use of "Hotel California," which Ocean heavily samples on last year's excellent Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape. Pitchfork points out that the YouTube clips of Ocean performing the song no longer have sound, so apparently some action has been taken. I just Googled if wolves and eagles are natural rivals, and the first video it pulled up was some gory footage of an eagle hunting competition (!!!!) which I won't link, but [...]
While on tour, Frank Ocean has been performing "American Wedding" with a Guitar Hero guitar, which also happens to sample the Eagles' "Hotel California". Don Henley of the famous rock band has stated that he will sue Frank Ocean if he plays it again. To that, Ocean stated, "He threatened to sue if I perform it again. I think that’s fuckin' awesome." Frank Ocean noted on his Tumblr, "Don Henley is apparently intimidated by my rendition of 'Hotel California'," confirming that it is doubtful the Odd Future singer will ever perform the track any time soon. Frank Ocean [...]
