A late post from us today. Many apologies to those expecting our usual midnight arrival. Today we visit the flip of the Lust for Youth / War split that we wrote about earlier this month . War's Somme, Maggio has been knocking around various blogs for a while but we'll cover it anyway because we love AVANT!, because they let us post a downloadable copy and because it's got that thunderously eerie juxtapositional thing we dig hard at 20JFG. When we were living out our pastel nuclear nightmares at the dog end of the Cold [...]

This week the music world lost two legendary performers: Donna Summer and Chuck Brown . And given that other greats such as Etta James , Whitney Houston and Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys have already passed away in recent months, we can't help feeling that 2012 will sadly go down as the Year Of Death. See how this, and other events such as [...]
Wynonna, Ziggy Marley, Liza Minnelli, and more than 20 other artists, songwriters, and producers explain who they "love to love" as PopMatters studies the remarkable four-decade career of Donna Summer. Editor's Note: This article was originally published in 2008 to celebrate the career of Donna Summer. At the time, a number of recording artists contributed quotes about Summer specifically for this piece, which also examined each of Summer's albums. In the wake of the artist's untimely passing, we wish to once again honor the groundbreaking legacy Donna Summer leaves behind. * * * Beyonc knows her queens. [...]

I'm sure this won't be the first time you have had this tune come past you in the last 48 hours after the sad and untimely death of soul and disco legend Donna Summer . There are so many of her tunes that we could have chosen but her all time classic, which you are as likely to hear at your cousin Shugs wedding as in a German after hours warehouse rave at 9am, is of course the Giorgio Moroder produced "I Feel Love". Take it away Donna. [...]
Today we lost a legend from the best decade of music - the 1970s. As much as I preach the gospel of the 1990s (can you believe I had to defend R.Kelly's discography the other day?), the 1970s was by far the most stylish decade in American history. Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco, died today of complications from cancer. Most heads our age know Donna from her seductive moans as she let her freak flag fly on "Love To Love You Baby," which fueled Digital Underground's "Freaks of the Industry." The diva of the [...]

This has been a sad few months. I'm posting this behind most other news sources, frankly, because I wasn't quite sure what to say. For most music listeners checking this site - or any other of our type - Donna Summer was before your time, before our times. However, chances are she's impacted each and every one of us, at least to some extent. Donna Summer used to ring about my house, my mom completely unwilling to let go of her period of dominance, much like any of us, sticking loyally to our nineties memories. And what a [...]

Our pop hearts grew heavy today (May 17) when we learned that diva, disco pioneer and First Lady Of Love Donna Summer succumbed to her battle with cancer. She was just 63 years old. Her music not only touched our hearts, it moved through us — making our toes tap, our hips shake and our legs carry us onto the dance floor. Thanks to the music icon's longtime collaboration with Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, our shoes were worn thin dancing to "Love To Love You Baby", "I Feel Love" and "Hot Stuff". [...]

As you've likely heard by now, Donna Summer passed away this morning in Florida at age 63. It's an incredibly sad day in music, especially for dance lovers: Donna Summer truly was (and forever will be) the Queen of Disco. The iconic songstress has dozens of songs to her name-nearly a hundred singles alone, in fact-that, to this day, are still lodged in public consciousness after almost 40 years: "Love To Love You Baby," "Hot Stuff," "Last Dance," "She Works Hard for the Money," "On The Radio." They're still with us-once sweated out to [...]
from Facebook We are deeply saddened today to hear that Donna Summer passed away this morning after an extensive battle with cancer. She was 63 and was finishing up a new album. Though she may now be apart from us, Summer will have an eternal legacy, as she paved the road for so much of disco and pop music throughout the 70s and 80s. With timeless hits like "I Feel Love", "Hot Stuff", "She Works Hard For The Money", and "Last Dance", she will not be forgotten. To celebrate [...]

Donna Summer - Try Me, I Know We Can Make It (Extended)
Sad news in the music world as disco queen Donna Summer passed away today. As you know we're pretty big fans of italo/disco and when the production of Giorgio Moroder combined with the vocals/sexiness of Donna Summer it was gold (boots). My dad gave me his original greatest hits double album he had of hers, so i know what will be playin for the next couple days.
Another legendary off-the-beaten-path track from Donna Summer. Thanks, Ziad. Filed under: Beats , Clip , Oldie , Yankee Panky Tagged: donna summer , new , track , ziad

I have always been a big fan of Donna Summer, and it's very sad that she has passed away today on May 17th of 2012. Summer, real name LaDonna Adrian Gaines, was born in 1948 in Boston. She was raised on gospel music and became the soloist in her church choir by age 10. She also became the first woman on Earth to sing an electronic song, entitled "I Feel Love" and produced by Giorgio Moroder in the late 70´s. "I Feel Love" was recorded with an entirely synthesized backing track, spawned imitators in the [...]

Yet another icon joins the choir invisible. I really should change the Versions motto 'I hear dead people'. But in all seriousness tough, this is a big loss. While many artists back in the day reluctantly got their toes wet with disco ( coughcoughDianaRosscough ) via the heavy hands of coke addled record execs looking to cash in on the new sound, Donna Summer was 70s disco funk through and through. She set the vocal bar pretty high for all her surrounding contemporaries. So really wanted to drop State of Independence [...]
As you might know, we are not really listeners of Arabic muisc, but there are a few sounds that we grew up with and liked. This is one of them. The legendary Warda went on the same day as Donna Summer. Both iconic divas of their time, what is the world coming to?
