It's been out for more than a week, but I still haven't gotten around to listening to Amy Winehouse's Lioness: Hidden Treasures , which debuted this week on Billboard's Top 200 album chart at No. 5, with 144,000 copies sold in its first week. Why the delayed reaction to "new" music from such a great singer? It's just hard for me to get into posthumous albums. I've never listened to one that impressed me much. One of the all time classic Christmas pop songs. As I was playing this I listened to the lyrics closer then I had ever paid attention to them, and realized that this song has the perfect sentiment for this time of year. Makes me feel all warm inside. LOL

It's difficult imagining Amy Winehouse's Back To Black gem "Tears Dry On Their Own" as ever having existed without that joyful "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" sample, but as revealed by its inclusion on her posthumous collection Lioness: Hidden Treasures , what would eventually become one of the singer's most fan-favorited releases didn't initially start off with such a strong Motown connection. Before Justin Vernon and Bon Iver truly explode (future covers of both SPIN and Billboard magazines are on the way), the Wisconsin native appeared on Fallon last night. It might be a slight disappointment for some that Vernon didn't perform anything from next month's self-titled release, but his rendition of Bonnie Raitt 's "I Can't Make You Love Me" and "Nick of Time," along with Donny Hathaway's "A Song for You" were still that other-worldly awe that Vernon continually evokes. Bon Iver played a beautiful medley of Donny Hathaway's A Song For You and Bonnie Raitt classics I Can't Make You Love Me and Nick of Time last night on Fallon. Blown away by Justin Vernon's voice. A studio version of I Can't Make You Love Me will appear on the forthcoming Calgary 12", out early July on 4AD.
