I'm just popping in for a minute. I have something to say about this... I have listened to Donovan Woods' "Sask" over and over for the past three days. I regret leaving the house because I cannot take it with me, so to speak. I mourn the departure soccer games bring because it's inappropriate for a mother to sit on the sidelines with headphones on. I feel this song so hard that I actually miss it when I don't have it on me. There is an [...]

by Tiana Feng Rating: Release Date: March 26, 2013 Label: Asporia Records Sarnia, Ontario's Donovan Woods released his third album Don't Get Too Grand back in March. The title is inspired by a Richard Ford quote about not taking yourself too seriously. Taking this [...]

Lots of acts may be coming through town this week, but I'm not jacked about many (hard to get excited Trent Reznor 's other band). Here's what you can catch: about Ivan & Alyosha w. The Lone Bellow, Drake Underground, Apr 22 I & A may be the headliner on the bill, but it's The Lone Bellow that is really the interesting draw here. CD release shows There are [...]
My goodness, what a week. I've been away from the hill for a couple weeks as we've been welcoming our third son into this nutty world of ours, and I'd intended to extend my posting vacation until next week. But this was a rather raw week for most of us, as we've watched so many horrible events go down in various places. I needed something soothing, perhaps you feel the same. So let's have the talented, and nimble-footed, Donovan Woods soft-shoe us into the weekend with the video for The Coldest State, from his recent hill-fave of [...]
by Tiana Feng Watch some hilarious synchronized dancing in the latest video from Donovan Woods . It juxtaposes the sweetness of the soft tune "The Coldest State".
Toronto musician Donovan Woods released his latest album, Don't Get Too Grand , a couple of weeks ago to a warm reception. Now he's announced a hometown CD release gig. He's set to play The Horseshoe Tavern on April 24th (with a full band). The show gets underway at 8:30pm. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Woods also has a new video for the album track "The Coldest State". The clip is about seven kinds of awesome. Have a gander (and a [...]

Donovan Woods has a new album out as of yesterday and in true album release week style, he has come forth with video footage of one of the best tracks on the album, Sask . The new album is called Don't Get Too Grand and is available via iTunes & Zunior (at which you may purchase a FLAC copy if you so desire, which is awesome). You all can't miss out on one of Canada's best all [...]

Donovan Woods is a refreshingly uncomplicated songwriter. Studio tricks, superfluous layers and cleverly turned phrases are left behind for scavengers to pick clean. Donovan's most honest thoughts, purest emotions and best melodies are served without chasers or diluting mix. Simplicity and clarity are his two greatest gifts. Not surprisingly, Woods' new record Don't Get Too Grand is built from the most humble building blocks. The title is a Richard Ford quote but it's as much a mantra as a subtle nod to a great writer. life is unfair in it's complexity; songwriting shouldn't be. [...]

Don't Get Too Grand from Donovan Woods is scheduled for wide release on March 26th (currently available in Canada). The album and these "Eleven Songs by Donovan Woods" have been highly anticipated by yours truly and as I thought, it/they have not disappointed. The album has been my most listened to for a couple weeks already and has quite easily made its way to my best of 2013 list. The album has been written in the way I perceive Woods to actually be in real life (while only "internet knowing" him, I tend to project on who [...]

Today's Guest Post is from Toronto based musician Donovan Woods. Woods has contributed here before and once again he provides a list from the year of songs he found to be on repeat more than others. A fairly busy last 12 months for him (as you will read) and I know from very good sources that a new album is due very soon, so keep an eye out for it. So then, let's get on with it.... ~~~ This year I played more shows than I ever have [...]

6am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day. Consider it your jam of the day — a sweet, sweet gift from me to you. I love you, dude. Yesterday, it was my brought to my attention that one Mr Donovan Woods, resident of Canada, excellent songwriter, had recorded a [...]

Donovan Woods is one of my favourite musicians in all of the Great White North (Canada for you foreigners). He actually has been for a few years now. So when he offered to guest post his list of the 10 tracks that really did something for him this year, it was exciting and I was very interested into what make Woods tick. Well I have to say I was surprised on a few of them but then sat back and thought to myself that while I might still be "Mr. Slowcoustic" that isn't my only side, hell, I'm [...]
by teepoo Whoa, this week ended so fast. Here are this week's most visited posts! Wow you guys really dig some of these old tracks as they have been up on chart for quite a while. Thanks for looking so deep! Don't forget to check out the new stuff as well :) Position Last Song Link 1 - Hey Geronimo- Why Don't [...]
Tweetvaso link Donovan Woods' last album, The Widowmaker, made it up to number 14 on our Best of 2010 list of album based solely on its position on my personal list. Even when I listened to the album a couple of weeks ago it was still an affecting experience. That's a credit to Woods' timeless...
Haha, if you ever decided to type bestsongwriter.com into your Google bar, you'll be leaded to the Bandcamp page of Toronto singer-songwriter, Donovan Woods. I don't know if he's the best songwriter ever but his songs are honest and endearing. In Put On Cologne there are simple hooks, light guitar and gentle touches of piano. Donovan Woods- Put On Cologne

I'm not sure of many artists that can put out such endearing, acoustically driven music as Donovan Woods . Ever since we stumbled upon his debut LP in 2006, we were caught hook-line-and-sinker but still find ourselves getting reeled in. Woods has a new EP titled Don't Get Too Grand coming out soon and the lead single from it is ready to enter your ears below: Donovan Woods - Put On Cologne With an infectious melody, subtle keys, [...]
If you're headed down to the Lonely Dear show at The Drake on Sunday night it will be worth your time to arrive early. Sarnia-native Donovan Woods will be holding down the opening slot. You won't want to miss his Iron & Wine-style folk. With titles like "My Cousin Has a Grey Cup Ring", how can you go wrong?
