I love that the high hats aren't just set at 64 notes but instead you get these waves of variation and the vox is almost like something from Deep Forest but feels refreshing.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. First there was Aphex Twin . Then there was Magnetic Man . The likes of Jamie xx , Four Tet and Vitalic followed. As everything turns 'doo-lally in a rather pleasant and unpredictable way' down on Bloc Weekend HQ, the final, predictably startling headliner has been revealed as Laurent Garnier , closing the weekend's hedonistic proceedings alongside Matthew Dear . The (practically) full, stage-by-stage, or curator-by-curator line up now looks something like: Union: Magnetic Man * Beardyman * Claude Von Stroke * [...]
All the way from Japan, we give you a Mixin' It Up from the great DJ P.O.L Style who fires off a beast of a mix. "Originally from Glasgow, I've been living out in Tokyo for the last 7 years where I run Numbers Tokyo and a new monthly night called Laguna Bass with my friends. This year I took some time-out from producing, to concentrate more on mixing and developing my own style as a DJ - The P.O.L.Style....LOL!!! I'm looking forward to getting back on the grind as [...]

I was lucky enough to catch up with Philip Gamble aka Girl Unit after his set at Oxford's Baby Love Bar. After a quick pit stop at a kebab truck to get some much-needed cheesy chips and onions, we ventured into the unknown territory of an Oxford University College common room, where coupled with the loud noise of some 'lads' watching the ashes, I attempted my first interview. With highlights of Girl Unit giving us the lowdown on who Velour is (Julio Bashmore and Hyetal) yes the cats out of the bag, he gave us an insight into his music [...]

First of all, this cover artwork is a tweak. But clearly it's recalling the Sir Mix-A-Lot era (booty, bombast and bass), right? Lazer Sword has dropped 20 high energy songs of their own, plus tracks from Machine Drum, Krystal Klear, and others for your listening pleasure. Throw this on if you're about to hit the streets and party and it will not only get you amped-but keep you there. Feels like a trip into the 80s. In the foggy mists of lat November we held our final L'Amour Electronique of 2009. We had something of an enforced guest DJ situation (long story), but it all worked as well as it could've, with their electronic burblings mixing not-too-jarringly with our French bubblegum and poppier synth sounds. Verity New Order – Elegia Glass Candy – Life After Sundown Zouzou – Tu Fais Partie De Passé Etienne Daho – Rendez-vous á Vedra Michel Polnareff – La Mouche Add N to (X) – Poke 'Er 'Ole Pram – Omnichord [...]

Been sorting through my record collection and I noticed I used to buy far more interesting vinyl before I became a DJ. DOPPLEREFFEKT - SCIENTISTS (ALBUM VERSION) Obviously Starkey and Vex'd are next level but old Planet - µ releases by Mike P and Jega are among my favourite ever 123s. Amazingly The Fear was released on a major label - it's a beautiful distorted mess. µ-ZIQ - THE FEAR (REMIXED) I remember Rory playing this remix and I [...]

Not intended to feature the latest music out there, my 'Pick of the Week' is to simply share & highlight music I personally enjoy regardless of timeframe. This weeks pick is Dopplereffekt's album, 'Gesamtkunstwerk'. Highly influenced by Kraftwerk , mysterious Detroit Techno/Electro group Dopplereffekt have a sound that is precise and clean, minimal but far from boring, having more in common to the retro-electro sound of Cybotron than what is considered 'electro' by todays standards. 'Gesamtkunstwerk' (Released on DJ Hell 's International Deejay Gigolo Records ), acts as [...]

For some painful reason I missed this unexpected live performance by Dopplereffekt in Malmö earlier this month (2nd feb). Oh the bitterness. I managed to find the live set on mp3 though, as recorded by SR (Sweden's national Radio) P2. The legendary techno/electro group doesn't do any interviews, and hardly ever plays live so I'm naturally quite upset about missing 'em. Mp3s are little comfort. No surprise in sound though; ambient, scifi, dystopia moods are transmitted and warped by the masters. Dopplereffekt - Unknown [n/a, 2008] ( [...]
Rocking Headphonesex Towers this week has been the simply amazing new Burial album, 'Untrue'. Although firmly rooted in the shuddering bassbins of dubstep, the album seems more built towards replicating the sounds of a London sunrise - the awakening of nature, distant music drifting past, the crackling of electricity as the city wakes up.... wandering around feeling slightly disconnected from
