Beautiful, haunting double exposures by Oliver Morris . Even the title of his Flickr stream, "Lullabies to Paralyze" conjures a similar feeling of uneasiness in me. Oliver Morris via Booooooom

Been far too long since Barletta has been on here, but he has definitely been busy. If you follow him on soundcloud you'll know that he is still producing tirelessly, and his hard work is obviously working out! This latest track of his is great, but don't take my word for granted - have a listen and let him know what you think with a comment below!

Hands down, Double Exposure 's "My Love Is Free" remains one of the hottest disco tracks ever recorded and, though perhaps unknown to some, is a standard among people who love disco. You're here because you, like most people who hear it for the first time, are taken aback like I was. The Soundcloud player below contains the full-length original mix, but for search engines to pick it up, I've included the condensed, shorter version in the post as well. The Salsoul sound is well known and has been endlessly sampled, including most recently in the big hit You're Nasty by Duck Sauce (Arman van Helden and A-trak) which, like many big house tunes, is mostly great because of the original disco hook. I was surprised when listening to this tape that it has a number of really good Salsoul tracks that are actually quite rare. The Double Exposure and Surface tracks are lovely and fairly well known. Anyway, ain't no groove like a D-Train groove if you know what I mean. This is [...]

Brooklyn's Sharegroove , aka DJs Duckcomb & Steve Shakewell, are already known for their "sounds of serious fun" as djs. It seems like their edits are also informed by the same ethos - just listen to this Double Exposure track they recently gave me. Duckcomb patiently builds the groove by emphasizing some soulful vocal loops, warm keys and funky guitar. Eventually, he really lets the vocal and horn sections loose for maximum dancefloor enjoyment. Try this one out in your disco sets and see! As always, feedback is welcome... Nik Cohn did eventually admit that he fabricated Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night , his article for New York Magazine in 1975. The article went on to become the basis of the film Saturday Night Fever and in the process created the persisting perception that still rankles the true disco fans. Of course, he wasn't the first to ruin a musical movement by "reinterpreting" it for mass consumption, but it's still important to highlight the point, 'cos misconceptions linger. Walter Gibbons was probably the most respected DJ amongst DJ's in the seventies. He was [...]
