No way - Doughboys I didn't buy Home Again yesterday for i did not leave the house. I have confidence, Sydney being the city it is, it will be waiting for me there next time, so i'm in no despair yet. I did find out some things about Doughboy though. Like they were Canadian. Who knew? Many. They were signed to a major record label in that dollar-hungry sweep of punk bands in the early 902s. And they reformed last year in [...]

Numbered days - Doughboys This album has been in Egg Records for years and if it's still there tomorrow i am going to buy it. It has become necessary to me. I must have it in my life. For the longest time the Doughboys existed to me unlistened and grouped amongst those late 802s, early 902s bands who weren't All, but those bands who aren't All are very much still like All, with similar and new pleasures to be gained. With enough time and [...]

It's a real rarity that I review concert DVDs, but I wanted to show my appreciation for these talented artists. The Doughboys "Rock N Raw Live" You thought you knew the New Jersey band, The Doughboys ? Well I'm sure no one told you the history of a band that is over 40 years old and one of the best live rock bands in the east. It all started with Richard X. Heyman and Mike Scavone in the early sixties and how they [...]

Recently ran into some great Dutch House the other day on Soundcloud when my brother turned me on to Market Price . Everything before the drop is a bit questionable in my opinion, but the main loop is money. These dudes also make pretty decent Moombahton. Grab both below. Market Price - Dough Boy Bonus: Tom Staar - Galaxy Mahesa Utara - To The Ground [...]

The Doughboys story is a fascinating one. A band that broke up 30 years ago, with members all going in different directions come back together. Now it's been made into a feature length documentary with the emphasis on the reunion performance at Arlene's Grocery in NYC. I had no clue when it first surfaced that it was Richard X Heyman 's first band and now you can get the film from the distibutors directly. Check out the and view a portion of the movie here.

Frank Yang I've been trying to do piggyback a write up of Sloan's latest The Double Cross on a live review all Summer but have been constantly foiled. For their album launch in-store at Sonic Boom back in May , a perfect storm of non-functional transit made a 10-minute trip take 45 and while I could hear the show, I couldn't see a damn thing. Then for their two-night stand at the Mod Club I was felled by a post-NXNE cold so those didn't happen. It certainly [...]

Jason Summers This isn't a review of the double-disc edition of Icky Mettle , released earlier this week and the first of four Archers Of Loaf reissues to come over the next year and a bit - for that, hit up the excellent Pitchfork writeup. I've had Icky Mettle for years but it hasn't become such a part of me that I can offer any sort of explanation as to why it's such a great record - in fact, I've only really come to that realization recently. [...]

Facebook I forget who I was talking to but it was just in the last couple of weeks and it was about how Feist has done a pretty good job of not having anyone notice it's been a long time since her last record - almost four years, three months and counting. Sure, the first couple years of that was spent touring and promoting The Reminder as it blew up worldwide, but after that wound down she's struck a pretty good balance between guest appearances - whether occasionally onstage [...]

Frank Yang There's not a lot of cross-Canada tours that skip over Toronto, but the Exclaim -sponsored country-wide trek headlined by Shad , and for this leg also featuring fellow Polaris shortlist alumni Miracle Fortress , looked to be doing just that with Thursday night's show at Wrongbar presented as a private show, attended by contest winners and attendees of Exclaim's 19th anniversary party which went before the show. But it's not as though either artist had been strangers hereabouts lately - both [...]
On Monday, April 11th, Ice Cube's "I Am The West" Tour rolled into Vancouver. Admittedly I tend to avoid going to see hip-hop acts that I grew up listening to, the reason for this is that as these rappers get older, they lose a LOT of their mic control and lyrically don't sound as strong [...]
Richard X Heyman releases two albums for the price of one

Quick...immediate names that spring to mind when the mention of Canadian musical acts come up in conversation? If you are imagining Celine Dion, Nickelback, Bryan Adams, KD Lang, Barenaked Ladies, Hedley, Wide Mouth Mason, Three Days Grace, Theory of a Deadman, Swollen Members, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne or Alanis Morissette...shame on you. Although these bands and (questionable) musicians helped to shape the landscape of the Canadian Music Scene, they do little convey how talented our country truly is. I meant to put this post together after Arcade Fire pulled off their Grammy victory for [...]

It's the annual event we all love to hate to on. Rap stars of new and old all convene under the house of Black lampoonery to dispel our attention from something more conducive to human existence. But as arguably the biggest nucleus that promotes most of the happenings of our beloved culture, the love side of the relationship with BET shoots to the forefront as they do give those that deserve it a bit of shine, even if comes courtesy of a generic environment. Contrived freestyles are NOT Hip-Hop as we'd like to [...]
Fat pockets be damned, Ice Cube is going to act a fool regardless. Still reppin' the West because that's who he is, "Y'all Know How I Am" marks the 2nd straight time father and son and son team up as they roll with the Lench Mob. Rolling til' the wheels fall off. Like last time, this is a clickable visual so get your gear in order. Bonus: They may not be in the physical but their presence is still felt in the west. [...]
