At 65, Eric Clapton is at the official retirement age but thankfully Slowhand is in no hurry to slow down. From facilitating the Crossroads Guitar Festival each year (video after the jump) to high-profile live tours with Steve Winwood and Jeff Beck to collaborations with B.B. King and J.J. Cale , Clapton now adds another chapter in his own solo album output with the simply titled Clapton , due September 28. An eclectic mix of styles, from country blues to [...]
Sheryl Crow gets back to her roots with her new album. Sheryl Crow - Music - United States - Arts - Reviews
As the title of her forthcoming July 20 album 100 Miles from Memphis would indicate, Sheryl Crow grew up in the lengthy shadow and radio airwaves of that legendary music town. Known for it's country, blues and early rock and roll via the legendary Sun and Muscle Shoals studios, Memphis was also a mecca for what she calls the "southern soul and hard-edged R+B" of Stax and Atlantic Records and artists such as Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, [...]

Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman- collectively known as Wendy & Lisa are probably best known as the creative songwriting force in Prince's 80's backing band The Revolution. It's my opinion as well as others that it was Wendy & Lisa who were a strong (and necessary) compliment to Prince and that relationship fostered the creative energy of the three that spawned music that was more than the three could have achieved individually. After Prince dissolved The Revolution Wendy & Lisa stuck together and continued to work through the 90's on their career as a songwriting duo. While the four [...]
An exciting day tomorrow. I don't even remember what it's like to have a government I trust, so it'll be nice to see old G-Dubs head back to Crawford. Here's hoping that Obama and co. can get this country back on the road to peace, justice, and compassion. Elliot Murphy - Better Days (Bruce Springsteen) One of Springsteen's better songs from his stagnant period with the "Other Band" in the early 90's. He often joked that after decades of songs about the down-and-out, when he finally wrote some [...]

Derek Trucks is one of the hottest guitarists in rock. Gregg Allman's health woes put the Allman Brothers Band on hiatus last year, so Trucks went into his home studio and came out with Already Free , his sixth studio album. There is a lot here to appeal to fans of classic rock, blues rock and blue-eyed soul, from the rousing cover of "Sweet Inspiration" to the slide guitar stinger "Get What You Deserve." Trucks is a brilliant guitarist, but a non-singer: Mike Mattison lends his sandpaper vocals to most of the songs, Doyle Bramhall II takes over lead [...]

This debut on Toby Keith's label (with some tracks co-produced by the Kentucky Headhunters' Richard Young) introduces the South's latest party band, though it doesn't seem to matter much to Flynnville Train whether that party is rock or country. Fronted by Brian Flynn, with brother Brent on lead guitar, the band shows how thin the line is between Southern rock and the self-avowedly redneck side of contemporary country. From the opening get-down anthem "Last Good Time," the party continues with tunes whose titles tell the tale: "Tequila Sheila" (good times gone crazy), "Redneck Side of Me" (evoking Hank Williams Jr.), [...]
