Here we are at the end of April and I'm back with the month's selection of songs. It's long. I got really, um, wordy at times this month. If you're looking at this post just for the songs, feel free to wade through without reading. :) Otherwise, I hope you guys enjoy this month as much as the ones in the past. As always, I'm posting the days in reverse order since it is easier for me that way. [ETA: Ha! I just tried to post this [...]
I loved Drag The River's 2006 album, It's Crazy , so I was more than a little saddened when I learned that the band was breaking up last year, but was even more thrilled to find out that the band was releasing one final album. You Can't Live This Way was recorded before but released after the band's official split last year and it kinda feels just like a break-up album should. Sure, Drag The River still dishes out punk-influenced country tunes, but the overall pace is a bit slower and a bit [...]
Hi, I'm still staying faithful to the project. Here are 31 songs for the month of March along with the posts that I made with them. Also, there are some pictures for some of the songs, so hopefully they won't crash anyone's computer. They're not huge. As always, the month is posted here in backwards order because that is easier for me. :::: Monday, March 31, 2008 And thus ends the third month of my 365 Days of Song project. We'll [...]

Drag the River is an alternative country rock band out of Colorado, they've been working towards their latest incarnation since 1996. Their sound is solidly grounded in all of the elements that might come to mind when you think of alt. country; slide guitar, spare piano and heartfelt rusty vocals. Once in a while you might be surprised by a few things thrown into the mix. One such instance is on "Rangement", where a sultry Louisiana style horn section bursts onto the scene and spices up the rhythm. The greatest strength of their latest album You [...]

Over on the Lucero Message board, we have ushered in 2008 with one of our best comp efforts to date. I advise you to download it, pour yourself a whiskey drink while it comes down, then sit back and let the musical goodness wash over you like a warm buzz. You can head over to the Lucero Message board to see who submitted each track and a brief description of why they chose that specific track. You can even download it here for the next 2 weeks or so. If you enjoy it, sign up for the [...]

Here it is. The final post of 2007 for ninebullets.net. The rest of this year will be reposts of posts from the year starting with a repost of my favorite show this year...that will come later this morning. Then next week will be a countdown of my favorite albums this year. We are gonna close out this year with the Lucero Message board December comp. It didn't have a designated theme of Christmas, but some of that ol' yultide spirit managed to slip in there. You can head over to the Lucero Message board [...]
Just dropping a few lines real quick before I get in my car....January 22, mark it down. If you are a fan of this here blog then you'll be a fan of this date. We get the following releases: Drive-By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark Drag the River - You Can't Live This Way North Mississippi Allstars - Hernando Oh yeah! I'll be locked up in my living room that week with a couple bottles of whiskey and headphones affixed to my head. [...]

We have seen the girls drink and then we have seen them drink some more. Apparently all of that was practice for this week. The NFL kicked off this weekend, and in much the same manner the ROL girls who had survived the last round of cuts graduated to the big leagues of alcohol intake. Some were not prepared for the speed of the game, more on that in a minute or two. With Sam gone, the opposing sides are evenly matched in numbers, if nothing else. This week, the girls get to show off their skills as [...]

Some people, like those that fought in the Revolutionary War, earn freedom. Some people find it dropped in their lap even though they do not deserve it. Ain't that right Mr. Libby . Most of us just work and pay bills and try to have a little fun with the little that is left over. Well today we'll celebrate freedom with free shit falling in our laps....deserved or not! Recently those fine little bastards at Suburban Home sent me 10 copies of their 2006/2007 Winter Sampler along with a Drag The River purchase I had [...]

One of Drag the River's frequently shifting lineups If you're a frequent reader here at HTFAF, you may already know the following: first, I was a big Drag the River fan, and wrote about the band in a guest post, my first for HTFAF, here . If you know that, you also probably know that, unfortunately, this band no longer exists. I try not to mention or think of the aforementioned fact too often, as it tends to make me sad. Finally, as Caleb warned in my first post, Drag the River played [...]
It was posted yesterday on Punknews.org that the killer country-punk band Drag The River from Fort Collins, CO is breaking up after a tense tour opening for Rocky Votolato. Sad news (for me at least) since I really really enjoyed their last record It's Crazy a ton. MP3 | Drag The River - Me And Joe Drove Out To California It's Crazy

I read some sad news on the internets yesterday and thought I would pass it along. Apparently, Jon Snodgrass, co-vocals and guitars for Drag the River has left mid-tour. There are plenty of rumors and much conjecture out there already, but as this is an .mp3 blog and not a gossip site, I'll quote the closest official source I could find. The following comes from one of the fellas at Suburban Home Records : I have spoke to both Dave and Jon twice now. At this point, it is definite that there will [...]
Every year around this time I start to wonder what new bands and music I will stumble upon in the next year. I decided to list the 5 bands I was most happy to discover in 2006. And by most happy I mean they got the most playing time in the iPod and CD players in the Autopsy household. ---------------- Drag The River I posted an apology to these guys earlier in the year for ignoring them because of their name. I finally got to see them live a few weeks ago and it was as [...]
Ten more of my favorite albums of 2006. Can you even handle all the suspense? 40. Oh No! Oh My! - Oh No! Oh My! (Self Released) MP3 | Walk In The Park An entire album of twee indie pop with plenty of catchy little "la la's" and "ba ba's" for me to sing to my daughter. I dare you to listen to this album and try to not to sing along. [...]
Suburban Home is gearing up for the re-release of Drag The River 's Closed LP. The re-release will feature no additional features, citing Jon Snodgrass' reasoning of "This album is about as perfect of album as we have ever made, why add something to it?" The release will be available on January 30th, 2007. The label has posted an mp3 from the release, you can download "Medicine" here . The band released their newest studio album It's Crazy earlier this year on [...]
Drag The River is also playing Friday night, tomorrow, in Little Rock at Whitewater Tavern with local Kevin Kerby. Thursday's is 18+ and Friday's is 21+, sorry youngsters. Drag The River - Disbelieve (From Hobo's Demos, soon to be re-released on Suburban Homes )
So I am currently in Pennsylvania with the Mrs. and the Baby. My wife was a bridesmaid in her good friend's wedding last night. Congrats Becki & Troy!! It was a blast and it was great to see everyone. The music of this next band is the perfect soundtrack for driving through the Allegheny Mountains and sippin' on a Straub. By viewing the resume of the musicians that make up the Colorado band Drag The River , you might expect a pop-punk supergroup of sorts. Around since the late 90's with various lineups, [...]
Sometimes when an old punk picks up his guitar a country song falls out, or so it seems for Chad Price and John Snodgrass. The two musicians are veterans to the skate and pop punk scenes, fronting the bands ALL and Armchair Martian respectively, but for the past 10 or so years they have been writing & recording country songs under the name Drag the River . For those who have never heard the band, Drag the River is the kind of dirty rock that sounds best played through the speakers [...]
I've had a lot of interesting stuff building up over the last few days but haven't had a chance to post it yet. Here 'tis. Ryspace has audio from this past week's Okkervil River show at Castle Clinton. Sometimes I wish I worked downtown. I Am Fuel, You Are Friends links to a pretty funny, though not-as-good-as-it-could-have-b een, video of Aziz Ansari walking around NYC listening to the world's

Drag The River is one of those bands that I'd heard of but never heard. That all changed when I posted a new tune from the upcoming Lucero album and Virgil from IndieHQ.org was kind enough to turn me on to Drag The River with a few MP3's. Turns out that Drag The River will be supporting Lucero in December of this year, so keep your eyes out for that bill. Definitely some similarities between the two bands sounds as you will find if you check out the MP3's below. [...]
