Monday, June 16, 2008 Hey! How was everyone's weekend? Mine was full of work that gave me a newfound hate for the heat that comes with Texas summers and there was a little bit of sadness that my Celtics couldn't close out the Lakers last night. Sigh. Sorry for skipping out on another podcast this week. Here's an EP to square things up. Enjoy. : The Weeks - Buttons : Here are a bunch of kids (the band's [...]
I have absolutely no idea who Dream Bitches are, and from a few quick listens to some of their other songs, I wasn't won over. That said, I can never pass up a Belle & Sebastian cover, particularly one from the If You're Feeling Sinister era. It doesn't get off to a great [...]

The songs on Coke and Spiriters [ buy ], the sophomore album from NYC's Dream Bitches , sound like they could very well be from a Kim Deal ( The Breeders )/ Corin Tucker ( Sleater-Kinney ) side project--- loud, fast and catchy as hell . Blending fierce punk chords with stylish alt-pop harmonies, tracks like Bad Luck Bill and Mother's Day are the perfect tracks for that relaxing summer BBQ turned drunken [...]
(In preparation for the (not-so) dreaded Friday the 13th, here's some tracks to help you make it through the next few days whether you're holed up in fear of superstitions or just need some new music to waste some time.) The Chap (from Mega Breakfast ) "They Have a Name" "They Have a Name" (Atlas Sound Remix) Black Vatican [...]

Coke-and- Spiriters , the second album from New York's Dream Bitches , is yet another record from the Summer of Twee! Packed with snarling pop anthems and hyper-literate acoustic ballads, this concise collection captures the Bitches at their most vibrant and volatile. Yoko Kikuchi and Ann Zakaluk , friends and collaborators since their New York City tween years, began the group as a duo in 2003, each fresh out of art school. By the time their first album, Sanfransisters , was released by Olive Juice Music in [...]

NYC's Dream Bitches second album Coke-and-Spiriters sees the ladies taking off with repetitive "do do do's," and a spirit that recalls at least a little riot grrls on opener "Bad Luck Bill." While the album mellows out with calmer folk flavored melodies here and there, such as on "Bronxy Marie," Dream Bitches excel when they turn up the guitars and add a little more intensity. Proof is in the raving mad harmonies on the chunky slag and slang of "Maniacal Mechanic," and maybe even better captured by the twisting lines of standout "Mother's Day," which carries [...]

So "Me and the Major" is probably my favorite Belle and Sebastian song. It is an awesome song and you can hear it here . Anyway the band Dream Bitches covered it and while it does not sound as fuzzy and comforting it does sound good. So listen to the cover and some more of their songs and see what you think. Also if you want something else to listen to I think If You're Feeling Sinister is a pretty classic album. Dream Bitches Mp3s [...]
Not that new, perhaps - the press release uses the phrase "sophomore album", which would be a clue - but we've not come across them before. The press release also drops the names Breeders and Tegan and Sara. To be fair, they seem to be caught in something of a struggle between their rockier Breeders side and their poppier Tegan and Sara side - you might have hoped for a little more synthesis by the second album. But they're certainly worth a listen, especially on their cover of Belle and Sebastian's Me And The Major [mp3 link] which [...]
