How could we possibly end a gorgeous, sun-drenched weekend of gardening, beer consumption and sweat dripping off the nose without giving you a taste of the soundtrack? Admittedly, most of our listening centered around some old GBV and the new Bob Mould album (can you blame us?), but we also found the time to re-visit a band that was originally featured back in May 2007. For those not familiar,

2009 has obviously been the year of the lo-fi so far. It seems at every turn we are given another band that has recorded their music as poorly as humanly possible, so it's a bit surprising to come across a band like Oakland's Dreamdate. This duo isn't using the most advanced studio techniques, but then they aren't weighing down their adorable pop music with scuzz and feedback either. No, these girls are allowing their pop hooks to really sink into the listeners ears while not being afraid to lay down some sick guitar riffs either. Basically this is the best [...]

Featuring Dreamdate, CunninLynguists, Clues, Dengue Fever, Oumou Sangare and In Flagranti. Dreamdate "8 Sleeves" (mp3) from "Patience" (Skywriting Records) More On This Album CunninLynguists "Never Come Down (The Brownie Song)" (mp3) [...]

This is the type of record I would have found down by St. Marks back in college that I would have fallen in love with on first listen ("you had me at the cover art"). I guess not much has changed since then. These bubblegum pop songs on Patience are thrown into a garage rock tumbler and come out as something entirely different. Think Ramones, think Smithereens and yes think The Beatles (with a little Yoko meddling away in the background). Dreamdate = band. Patience = new record. [...]

In the dusk of another Valentine's Day, some of us will go to bed in despair, victims of this horrible holiday's deadly talons. But rest assured, desperate souls, this fate is completely avoidable. Local music is here for you. And it will stay with you all through the night. Five fantastic shows will compete for your affections this Saturday night - all very worthy suitors, and all for less than the price of dinner. This also turns out to be a nice preview night for the upcoming Noise Pop and SXSW festivals. [...]
Dear Kid Sister, I love you, but you need to get off of your ass and release your debut already. I read yesterday that you and your label are holding your album until it feels right "sonically." I do... Continue reading "An Open Letter to Kid Sister" >

Kid Sister is out with the single "Get Fresh" , which is to be featured on her upcoming album "Dream Date" . I'm looking forward to hearing Kid Sisters Album when it drops. Pro Nails was last summers club anthem. I'm interested to see what direction she plans on taking with this album. With a small background in rapping, I would expect a club ready album that chicks will want to dance to, and dudes will appreciate on the same note. Word to Ye' [...]

You must agree that it has taken Kid Sister quite awhile to release her debut album, Dream Date , but it looks like it's the release date is near! November 25th is the date and the album art and tracklist are below. I fear that you might not be familiar with the guests in her album. Its a guy named, wierdly, Kanye West, a David Banner and a funky Estelle. And you could probably guess some of these...production work on various tracks by [...]
Hype Before The Storm? Kid Sister has been on the cover of popular music magazine URB twice but has yet to release a proper album. That's all gonna change finally on Nov. 25th with the drop of Dream Date. Most...

I guess my love for Fool's Gold has been exposed heavily over the last couple of days, but just when you thought they had no more great stuff to keep us entertained with, they release some more. This time it's Kid Sister who let's us listen to her new song Family Reunion taken from her upcoming album Dream Date . The track is produced by Diplo, features David Banner and besides providing some fresh new rapped lines from Kid Sister, we also get to hear her do a little singing. If you weren't [...]
One of the obvious benefits of keeping a music weblog would be the CDs I receive in the mail. It's nice to open the post to find padded envelopes from around the world, but it also serves a purpose. It really does help to hear the music away from the computer and as a complete package instead of just a song or two. That's exactly what I had the opportunity to do with the music of
