So many apologies for the lack of updates this week. Thursday night was trivia night and I drank way too much for my own good. According to my trivia teammates I was shouting at the end of the night for the remainder of whatever bottle we were being poured shots from all night. I guess [...]

We've taken the sea, the sunshine and a lot of sand. We've been outside. A lot. I've done a little bit of running, a fair bit of reading; eldest sprat has done a marathon of fishing, while the other two have spent quite some time splashing in the waves. It's been very chilled, harmonious and sultry. The Ventnor wall lizards are basking and we count them every day, on the way out and on the way in. We watch the magnificent clouds and the shimmering horizon, and we search for little pockets of peace and enjoy them all the more [...]

It's another Wild Weekend , edition 66 to be precise. A six pack filled with soul, jazzy tropicália , brand new garage rock, rocksteady, and flamenco. And a rather rare Dylan cover by Steve Wynn's Dream Syndicate. Wild scenes inside the goldmine then so. I'd like to start this issue with a birthday song, as the missus celebrated hers a couple days ago. Many happy returns, my dear. Especially for you, here's Kathy Young, with a soulful lament from 1961, so way before you were even born. A while back, [...]

… on Jan. 25, Pollard released his latest solo album, Space City Kicks, on Guided By Voices Inc. which opened the floodgates on a slew of new releases coming from the ultra-prolific songwriter this year. He recently reunited with former GBV guitarist Doug Gillard for another Lifeguards release, Waving at the Astronauts. That album was [...]

As long as there's been records, there's been novelty records. Having grown up on my share of Dr. Demento , I guess I have a bit of a soft spot for 'em. And that's what we have here, performed by a supergroup of sorts: In 2008, The Dream Syndicate's Steve Wynn put together the Baseball Project with like-minded hardball fan Scott McCaughey of the Young Fresh Fellows and Minus 5 . McCaughey sidelines with R.E.M. and recruited Peter [...]

The Dream Syndicate was described to me as L.A.'s version of The Velvet Underground from the 80's. Say no more- I'm in. The band formed in '81, played a show in Hollywood, made a basement 4-song demo, and overnight grabbed the attention of the L.A. music scene. In '82 The Dream Syndicate released The Days of Wine and Roses , an album that could have easily doubled for a VU bootleg, only with a bit more noise and dynamic shifts. "Halloween" is a gem from the album, utilizing pretty wonderful guitar feedback as a dense surrounding for the dried [...]

We don't usually do themed mixes, but Halloween is different. So many great songs lend themselves to a night of ghoulish wrongdoing and sorcery. So to get you in the mood, download a marvellous combination of folk, punk, psych-rock, paisley jangle, experimental, indie, and straight up rock 'n' roll. Fifteen great songs, all treats and no tricks. Rock 'n' roll has long been deemed "devil's music" by the puritanically minded, and while that may be a bit of a stretch, most rock 'n' rollers have long known that being bad is far more fun than being good. Countless bands have embraced demonic imagery and played on related dark notions. As such, there's no better way to celebrate Halloween than with a soundtrack of fiendish tunes. (And we don't mean hokey stuff like "The Monster Mash.") As such, we've put together a list of 12 songs good enough to wake the dead this weekend. [...]
When you think baseball, you undoubtedly think "America's pastime." Well, you should also be thinking R.E.M. No, that's not a typo: two of the alternative legend's members, Peter Buck and studio/touring member Scott McCaughey, along with Dream Syndicate's Steve Wynn and Linda Pitmon, are in The Baseball Project, a little band based on their shared love of pinch hitting and rocking out. If you can't believe that such a thing could exist, then peep your ears on their track "Panda & The Freak" (via JamBase ). McCaughey is actually a diehard San Francisco [...]

Early in the summer I spoke of my excitement about the reissue of Dream Syndicate's 1984 classic album, Medicine Show. Considering the amount of play its gotten over the last few months its no doubt lived up to my hopes. Furthermore its rejuvenated an old love for an album I hadn't heard in some years, but once logged heavy time on my player. I'll skip all the obligatory flavorful adjectives because Medicine Show is a lot of grey shades with no neon to be found anywhere. [...]

Dream Syndicate founder Steve Wynn plays Medicine Show and The Days of Wine and Roses this weekend

I thought it was really good news to see that Water Records is planning a re-release of Dream Syndicate's second album, 1984's Medicine Show , produced by Sandy Pearlman (Clash, Blue Oyster Cult) on June 15. In the words of singer/songwriter, Steve Wynn: "I've made over 20 studio albums in the last quarter century and "Medicine Show" sounds unlike any of the others. Even though each of them occupies its own sonic space, they all follow some kind of logical trajectory. "Medicine Show" is the odd man out. Not only does [...]

Steve Wynn shakes off NYC and goes west.
Later, we'll be carving pumpkins, taking the mini-mackerels out trick or treating, and watching Halloween again on TV tonight. We couldn't resist the mounting excitement in the house and so, here for your listening pleasure (and we're assuming one amongst the many), is a cracking Halloween themed mix for you.Download Band Of Horses - Is There A Ghost mp3 (from Cease To Begin)(One of the best
