Live This Month: September 2011 (Podcast #256) In Live This Month , we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. Two big local-focused events top this month's calendar. First, we're pleased to be co-producing the free, all ages 2011 Rock Make Street Festival , taking place on September 17th at Treat Avenue and 18th Street in the Mission District. Additionally, the Mission Creek Music Festival returns to SF and Oakland for its [...]

Once again exquisite female harmonies and jangly pop melodies bring San Francisco one step closer to defining it's sound in the pop music spectrum. Dreamdate have been kicking around the Bay for more years than the average person lives here and has gone through a variety of line up changes. However, all that maturing has certainly seemed to pay off. While 20092s album Patience was slightly underwhelming, this year's Melody Walk has upped the songwriting with a nod to darker themes and greater sense of urgency. You can almost hear the wind whip down [...]

Tweet Dreamdate - "Pyramids" We've long loved SF's Dreamdate , a trio with a knack for a winning jangle that's equal parts garage and indie pop. Melody Walk is the band's new third album, which was recorded by Greg Ashley, and is out now on Tic Tac Totally . Throughout the record, it's easy to be sucked in by the great vocal melodies and harmonies, and a sense of immediacy abounds on tracks like [...]

Tweet Clean White Lines , a local video and film company, is attempting the unexpected: to make a documentary about Muffler Men , those big fiberglass sculptures used to promote roadside businesses. In order to create this film, the company needs an RV, and is currently raising funds to help purchase a used model. Bart Davenport , Dreamdate (acoustic), Anna and Spencer of Spencey Dude and the Doodles , and Sean Hayes have all [...]

If you could have your dream job, what would it be? If you're like me, then you probably have a list stored in the back of your skull of about 50 dream jobs, some of which are completely absurd and others that aren't out of the realm of possibility. In the latter category I've always thought I'd make a decent talent booker for a music venue. So, I figured until the day I can make a career of booking the lineups that clog my head, where better to share them, then here. Tonight we'll take a journey into [...]

way to go dream date and props to the so on point taste of honey from the bees for the intro. anyone know where to find more dream date? Dream Date - I Feel Like The Mother Of The World

Better late than never is what I always say. DJ A-Trak's main squeeze and formidable artist in her own right, Kid Sister , has finally let the polish dry on her French tips and is ready to drop her long-awaited debut LP, UltraViolet . Most people will remember the femcee from her catchy Kanye-assisted joint "Pro Nails," an anthem that would have made CoCo from SWV more than proud. The album, which was supposed to hit shelves last fall and was originally titled Dream Date , has reportedly received a bit of a make over, having a [...]

It sure is a gorgeous Monday! How else are you going to celebrate that, than with a rad show at the Sunset? I was introduced to Dreamdate, known as "East Bay pop sensations" by friends a few weeks ago, and found them to be perfectly up my alley, with two female singers harmonizing and a laid back poppy/punky beat. They seem straight out of the mid-90's, and that makes me very happy. read more

~ New Roman Times - "Smoke In Your Disguise" ~ Great opening track to a great album, New Roman Times' latest On The Sleeve . Don't think I've ever heard anyone sing the words "you're breaking my heart" so seductive. ~ Cats On Fire - "Fabric" ~ A delightful little song, with a wistful melody and a sweet sadness about it. Sounds very much like The Smiths meets with The Go-Betweens. ~ Dreamdate - "Go Fish" ~ Really cute lo [...]

Dreamdate Dreamdate's new record 'Patience' has mid-90s Northwest written all over it – and when it strays geographically, it's heart is still in the right place (i.e., that wonderful "Go Fish" cover). Best friends Yea-Ming Chen and Anna Hillburg make up the whole of Dreamdate and it seems the two of them have only got one goal: putting smiles on faces. I read somewhere that they're just barely escaped being pop. Frankly I couldn't disagree more. Dreamdate are undeniably pop. They've got irresistibly sweet, catchy melodies and their songs are full of this [...]
Oakland's Dreamdate have unveiled their latest album, Patience, digitally via Skywriting Records and will celebrate with a release party at the Knockout in San Francisco on Saturday, May 9. To re-use some descriptive musical terms, the duo of bff's Yea-Ming Chen and Anna Hillburg play jangly, lo-fi indie pop often suplemented with dreamy vocal harmonies. If you like what you hear, the band are

Forever ago, Dreamdate played a show in downtown Davis which satisfied the audience so deeply that an encore was demanded. As bashful and charming as possible did the girls admit they knew only one more song: The Monster Mash, a CD single they released in 2006. And they played it, like good sports, but now crowds need not worry - there's enough Dreamdate songs to last a couple hours! The record release party for their latest release, Patience , at the Knockout this Saturday with fellow Oaklanders The Pets , The Splinters [...]
