Readers of this blog know that I have a special place in my heart for dredg . Their albums Leitmotif, El Cielo, and Catch Without Arms have all inspired musicians and fans (like me) alike. Now, dredg did not make an album just for you, they made an album that they felt best represented where they are as a band. The question for you is, are you willing to accept the change? To say there has been a lot of anticipation for dredg’s fourth album, The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion, [...]
İlk olarak yeni albümün 11. parçası, I Don't Know . Canlı, profesyonel çekim. Şimdilik pek frekansımız tutmadı kendisiyle. İkici sırada: Gerçi Waterbourne filminin soundtrack albümünden " What Have I Done? " dinleyenlere çok tanıdık gelecektir, ama yine de Information , ilk görüşte aşk... Tekrar yorumlanıp, sözler eklenince muazzam bir şey olmuş. Bence albümün en vurucu şarkısı, bayıldım. Grup elemanlarının ne kadar yetenekli adamlar olduğunun da bir başka kanıtı olmuş klip. Herkes çifte görevde yine.
Against all odds, I have been following the band Dredg since their ambitious 1998 debut album "Leitmotif" (though, arguably, I didn't really catch onto it until its re-release in 2001 once they had signed to Interscope Records). What the word leitmotif means in traditional terms is "a recurring musical theme associated within a particular piece of music with a particular person, place or idea." Ultimately, that's sort of the definition of "concept record," and you may be surprised to learn there's a story behind "Leitmotif" that involves a man with a spiritual disease who must seek out different cultures of [...]
Yes, that is the Sonseed you think it is . Apparently someone saw fit to give them a reissue. I wonder if they've got all their royalty paperwork up to date. And, in the continuing saga of "I had no idea that band still exists," The Clarks have a new one out. They jammed some serious power pop back in my college days. Lord, that makes me feel old. Other than that, we've got a pretty legit Coalesce album, a Dirty Projectors release [...]
Oversaturation is rarely a good thing. The same could be said about the long wait between albums. In a world of short attention spans, and even shorter memories, bands are swept under the rug quicker than cat hair and Cheetos. It's been four years now since California prog-rockers dredg last released anything, but nevertheless, they're back and with their fourth studio release, the overly ambitious, The Pariah, the Parrot, the Delusion . This massive 18-track effort is stacked with just about everything, from vocalist Gavin Hayes's ever soaring vocals to the bands' constantly changing musical styling. The [...]
Just because The Mars Volta have a busy next couple of months, what with the release of the band's latest LP and some supporting tour dates , does not mean that the members making up the Texas outfit does not have time for other activities. We all know about frontman Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's recent exploits , but do you know about the latest on goings of his brother and current Volta keyboardist Marcel? Well, we'll tell you... Days after the Volta's appearance at Bonnaroo later this month, Marcel will hit the [...]

On the latest Schallgrenzen-Soundcheck , Dredg 's new album The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion was up for reviews. Here are my thoughts: One thing before I start: all those fans eagerly expecting a new Leitmotif can now turn away and keep their "Mainstream and Commercialization"-Boo-Hoos for themselves. Because since Catch Without Arms everyone should have figured out that [...]

Ever since the dawn of time, there has been a connection between metal and classical music. Typically you'll find these two genres melded with the band being backed by a full orchestra, as is the case with Metallica and the Scorpions. Rare is it that one finds the songs originating from the classical artists themselves, and you can certainly tell when you see a string section attempting to rock out behind James Hetfield. That's where Judgement Day comes in. As the title of this review suggests, these guys are not pretending. Hell, they don't even need a full [...]

In this, her first installment, Z sits down with Troy Sanders of Mastodon , Grace Perry of Landmine Marathon and the men of Torche . Metal wouldn't exist without three core things - intoxicants, babes and the BOOM. In this edition of Bombshell we have the trifecta for you; a legit babe who slays the mic with intelligence and beauty, as well as two seminal intoxicant heavy bands [...]

dredg After much thought, I have decided to drop the Weekend Showcase post and start review shows on Saturday. I was running out of shit to talk about and was completely disinterested in what I was writing about. So here we go, hope this works out better. So for those who frequently visit this website, you probably know I am a huge fan of the band dredg . So you can imagine my excitement when I found out they were not only play one San Francisco show, but two [...]
Meet If These Trees Could Talk, an instrumental band from Akron, Ohio. If These Trees Could Talk border on metal the same way bands like Dredg, Muse, Maserati and Russian Circles do - for the most part they stick to delicate but rocking atmospheric grooves, but occasionally they kick it into high gear for cathartic [...]

After pizza for dinner and canolis for dessert, why not stroll North Beach a little further to Bimbo's? Local stringed metal Judgement Day will be opening both SF tour dates for Dredg : last night at Great American Music Hall - but in case you missed it, also tonight at Bimbo's - both with Torche (Atlanta). Judgement Day - "Out of the Abyss" On a related note, have you heard what else Anton Patzner (Judgement Day) has been up to? Devotionals is [...]

EPIC FUCKING WEEK! Okay...here we go. I am going to be burnt out at the end of this week, it's inevitable. To kick it all off, I'll be seeing Mogwai tonight for the very first time. As a fan of theirs for years, this is going to be very special for me. I'd rank it up there with when I caught Sigur Ros for the first time last year. This may be equally as epic. Not many bands make me feel the way Mogwai does, so it's obvious that I have been [...]
