Drink Up Buttercup hail from Philadelphia and strictly based on their new single, "Even Think", they seem like a lot of fun. Reminds me of a more upbeat, less weird Man Man (maybe it's the crunchy keyboards). It's a bit sugary in spots but considering it's friday, that's fine by me. They play the Zodiac tuesday night with Honne Wells and Blood Warrior (nov. 10th), so it'll be interesting to see if their entire show compares to this single. The rest of the songs on their mysepace page sound [...]

by charles poladian It was a time for ghosts, ghouls, CMJ, and sunlight. October has come and left us bitter. That night where I gained an hour was a precious gift that loving October could only bring. Unfortunately November shakes sleep from her gentle head from a year of slumber and her gift is darkness at five in the evening. But that's the breaks kid. [...]
Ok, yes, I'm way behind. So here's a quick CMJ wrap up. On Friday of CMJ, I saw Canadian trip hop band Beast at the Studio at Webster Hall. They put on a good (albeit rather short) show that had the audiences rocking out, although they played a lot of their darker, more electronic stuff (as opposed to my favorites which have influences more from funk or gospel). My friend and I were also really

If you've noticed, I switched up the format of Radio Dick over the last couple of weeks into semi-review mode as opposed to the bag-o-tunes mentality. However, just this once, I'm going back to the old-school mode, specifically using the "I've got too much grading to do" argument. The end of the first nine weeks just ended at the high school where Brian and I are gainfully employed. This equates to very little time to write prose on the merits of these tracks. Just take our word for it and check out each of these bands; most of these tracks [...]

Philadelphia quartet Drink Up Buttercup's " Sosey & Dosey " had a manic '60s psychedelic carnival vibe to it. This remix of a newer songs, "Even Think," by Andrew W.K. continues the party, but pushes it in a different, dancier direction. The calmer original appears on a new free (for an email address) two-song digital 45 marking the band's signing to Yep Rock. You can expect a full-length on Yep Rock in early 2010, but for now here's W.K.'s bumped-up, highly caffeinated (and glow stick-appropriate) take on the fuzzed-out pop anthem. This Philly foursome gave an electric energized performance. Blending hardcore, classic rock, dance, and even a cappella with cherry topping of secondary percussion consisting of trashcans and tool boxes.
