This may have been a game that the Red Sox needed to salvage, but salvage did they ever. What started as a slow offensive output turned into a convincing win, their sixth win in their last eight. They are now an even .500 in the month of May, holding a striking position in the American League East. Here are the four bases: First Base: The Red Sox media were tweeting and tweeting and tweeting about Jacoby Ellsbury like they are teenage girls. Ellsbury is 3-for-6 [...]

Well, after a five game winning streak that included two one run games and a comeback, the Red Sox seemed to have this one coming. They already fell behind in the first, and could not muster enough of a comeback to make the game any closer. Here are the four bases: First Base: The truth is, these kinds of starts almost have to happen to every pitcher, not just Jon Lester . Think about it; if he had not given up a three-run home run on a four-seem fastball to [...]

Believe it or not, but this was the first time this season that an opposing pitcher had a blown save in the ninth inning, and it could not come at a better time. The Red Sox won only their second series in May, and now go to Minnesota to avenge their home stand where the Twins took three out of four games. Here are the four bases: First Base: Another reliever first: it was the first time this season that a pitcher has gone more than two innings in a save [...]

Last week, their single "Drive" beat out the likes of ALICE IN CHAINS, VOLBEAT and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE in Classic Rock Magazine's online Track of the Week poll. This week, they take over the rest of the world. [...]

For the second time this week, the Red Sox worked diligently to get back into the afternoon showcase, only for the bullpen to throw it all away. The Red Sox now face another rubber match tomorrow, as they try to get their may back on track. Here are the four bases: First Base: Is Junichi Tazawa the guy? Really? He's been pretty good and all, but check this out. Every run except for one that he has given up has come on the long ball. He now has given [...]

Desperate for a win, desperate for a glimmer of hope, desperate for some sort of light, the Red Sox took a familiar foe to school. The Red Sox are now own a 5-2 record over the heads of the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Canadian club is once again behind and now on away turf. With a little more of an upbeat feel, here are some more upbeat four bases: First Base: This is a start that Jon Lester needed. After pitching a 5.60 ERA in his previous three [...]

April spoils have brought May turmoil. The Red Sox have now lost four out of their last five, and their pitching looks as thin as ever. There was no consolation prize either – David Ortiz went 0-5, ending his 27 game hitting streak. Here are the Four Bases: First Base: To say the least, Allen Webster 's start was not the one that John Farrell was looking for. Despite his very acceptable major league debut, Webster looked a little out of his league. Lucky for Farrell, [...]
Remember Röyksopp? No? Not even the one with Fever Ray? Well no matter, for although the Norwegian sentimentalists have slipped forever deeper into eternal irrelevance since the trailblazing release of their seminal (yes, that's seminal ) début Melody A.M. , their legacy lives on. For rarely does electronica resonate with such emotive potency, and it's in that same rich vein of feeling that Brooklyn duo Beacon appear to have bathed their mutedly, if only periodically sublime début full-length, The Ways We Separate . It's an album comprising incisive avant-garde cuts (Overseer) and sultry [...]
In 2011 we fell hopelessly in love with the Drive soundtrack. This year Only God Forgives , the second collaboration between actor Ryan Gosling and writer-director Nicolas Winding Refn, will be released, and of course we have high expectations for its soundtrack. Thus far, a couple of trailers have been released-one featuring some sort of slowed-down remix of Kavinsky 's " 1986 " and the other featuring the mysterious, enchanting song below. "Tur Kue Kwan Fun" translates to "You Are My Dream," and it genuinely sounds like a dream. The song was written [...]

U.S. drivers involved in fatal crashes are over five times more likely to be "lost in thought" than texting or checking their phone, says a new study funded by Erie Insurance Group . After studying police reports behind 65,000 fatal accidents in the U.S. that occurred in the last two years, researchers and found that 10% were the result of some kind of distracted driving. Of that group, 12% resulted from using phones behind the wheel, while 62% resulted from some kind of daydreaming. 39 states have outlawed texting while driving , and six [...]
Trailer: “Only God Forgives” (dir. Nicholas Winding Refn) Nicholas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling ’s follow-up to their incredible neo-noir thriller, Drive is this gritty Bangkok gangster film, which from this red-band trailer, promises to be just as dark, stylish and uncompromising. Gosling again plays a violent, soft-spoken protagonist, uttering only two words in the trailer, “Wanna fight?”.

Kavinsky, Outrun BY TIFFANY HAIRSTON A car crash merges a teenager with the spirit of his Ferrari Testarossa, reanimating him as a zombie ghostrider visible only to the girl he loves. Despite the intro’s cheese-tastic setup , French electro pop phenom Vincent Delorgey’s debut album Outrun tears out of the gate and delivers as an unabashed tribute to Reagan-era car lust and synthesized vibes. Producing under the name Kavinsky, Delorgey scored big in 2011 when his indelible track “Nightcall” became to the Drive [...]

Kavinsky - OutRun A return to the past in music can often be a misguided journey, with homage taking precedence over creativity. Rather than looking to the future with a set of classic influences, the end result sounds relegated to refresh what’s already been done before. But in the case of French DJ/producer Kavinsky (né Vincent Belorgey), the past is just the palette upon which [...]

Hey everyone! I've got a present for ya! Another song from Magic Man ! This is one is even better than their last song (which is saying a lot, because "Paris" was an awesome hit!). This track is entitled "Texas" and it's a song with a very HUGE sound. "Texas" has that energy that drives through you and gives you that moving chill in your skin and bones. I've listened to this song so many times already. Its so catchy and epic sounding. The synth in the background and the driving guitar powers "Texas" forward, and then [...]

iPhone OBD-ii integration has come a long way since we first looked at the integration here a few years ago with CarTrip . What a difference a few years makes! The $70 Automatic includes access to the app and the integrated OBD-ii dongle. With a highly-refined app, and my well documented obsession with technology and statistics, this is definitely on my to-buy list. I recently added the JawBone Up to my personal repertoire for tracking movement, eating, and sleep and have used Fuelly for a several years to manually track fuel economy and costs, and Waze to manage and track [...]

I remembering sitting in the movie theater watching Drive , and being absolutely blown away by the soundtrack. It was the selections of College and Kavinsky's music in that film that really renewed my addiction to synth pop. Kavinsky recently released his debut album, Outrun (thankfully on vinyl), and now the announcement comes through of College's Secret Diary and Teenage Color receiving the vinyl treatment. The vinyl (and CD...) release of College's music will be issued for the first time ever through Geoff Barlow's (Portishead, DROKK, Quakers) label, Invada. Scheduled for [...]
