So then, that's In The City done for another year. After months of having smoke blown up their unsigned asses, bands from both near and far have duly played to miniscule crowds in the hope that, somewhere amongst the smattering of suited attendees, is the A&R guy that's going to make it happen for them. As the country spirals headfirst into the same kind of financial oblivion to which the record industry has long since succumbed, the likelihood is, of course, that it probably ain't gonna happen. Those bands that didn't quite [...]

In association with UK music website Drowned In Sound , the Shred Yr Face (annoying wannabe Sonic Youth spelling intentional) hits the UK this October featuring the spelling nightmare that are tweecore warriors Los Campesinos! , Sub-Pop's ambient-punk duo No Age and the none more lo-fi Times New Viking . I won't be attending as unfortunately none of the shows are anywhere near me and I've already travelled enough of this godforsaken isle in 2008 [...]
Drowned In Sound have had a first listen to the new TV On The Radio album, Dear Science: High, jangly guitars, bouncy bass and a relentless snare-heavy beat whisk you swiftly from stillness into a heady, sinister danse macabre. There are dark allusions to "the ploughshare and the sword" and an invitation, or maybe a demand, to "come pay witness to the whore of Babylon". Horns, marimbas, cowbells and all manner of jungly squawks and clatters fill the air like mosquitoes, only to be cleared away by a kick-ass cymbal clash straight out of Kool & [...]

"When they rock out in the faux-blues readymade "The Steady Roller," you can practically inhale the pungent aroma of their pirate shirts. They're a marriage made in psychedelic desert-blues heaven." Blender "unpolished sound from ghostly echoes of 60's West Coast Psychedelia 50's rock and roll and swampy old blues. They have a nice, semi-chaotic way about them" Mojo "Their ragged eclecticism is a winning one, taking detours into slide country, beat up folk and starry desert ballads" Uncut [...]

Hi kids, we're currently on location (and stuffed full of Plopp bars) in Sweden after enjoying the wonderful Rip It Up festival in Saffle, where new Indietracks addition Darren Hanlon put in a particularly fine performance for a friendly crowd of Swedish indiepoppers. We love this little festival and, with less than week to go now, we couldn`t be any more in the mood for Indietracks. We`re know you`re excited too, and so this week we`ll be cramming in more last minute fun than you can shake a llama`s tail at! Coming up, we`ve got interviews with The [...]
Psychedelic Horseshit are fucking awesome. Other people seem to agree too, which is nice as we're putting out their debut UK single in July and it'd be good to sell loads and spend the profits on cans of Ting and multipacks of Monster Munch. There's a Vice interview here Spin Magazine article on shitgaze, featuring Times New Viking and Pink Reason too: Drowned In Sound have written about the single here , which was nice. And reviewed [...]
Islands - Creeper.mp3 Islands' new LP is scheduled for release May 20th. Drowned in Sound has a spot on review which basically says that the album kicks ass. Arm's Way then, is as fascinating as it is unsettling, as unexpected as it is ceaselessly rewarding. Brazen noise sits next to magnificent style while its lyrics seem tailor made for umpteen accurate (contrasting) interpretations. It is a towering, complex achievement and startling progression to boot. islandsareforever.com - [...]
