I'm kind of obsessed with this artist named Morgan Geer , who calls his music Drunken Prayer . His second full-length, Into the Missionfield is the first DP release I've heard, and I'm already in trouble. But Geer/DP has been around for a few years; kickin' it with, at times... himself. But also (per his Fluff & Gravy profile), with " members from the Breeders, She & Him, Bright Eyes, The Wipers... and the backing bands of John Lee Hooker and Elliot Smith." Yeah? [...]

Mark Lanegan's Blues Funeral comes out today, and if you couldn't tell how excited we were to feature an exclusive album preview this past week and you somehow thrilled we were to host the Mark Lanegan Band live this morning from the Cutting Room Studios in NYC, go back and listen to the performance again later today on our Live Performances Archive and you can practically hear John Richards' head explode when Mark calls him "bro." On February 7, next year, Fluff & Gravy Records will release Drunken Prayer's sophomore full-length, Into the Missionfield , an eleven track collection of dark tales and darker melodies. A journey down a path less travelled, but always more rewarding. Call it what you will - alt. country, Americana, folk-rock, or a number of other genres, Drunken Prayer makes an honest tune, an unflinching narrative of the harsh and beautiful harmonies and discords every human faces: a kind of holy blues. There is a unique genuineness here born of pure inspiration. Rasping vocals command attention [...]

Drunken Prayer: The Demon [ purchase ] I was very happy to see posts from Autopsy IV. In fact, my intention with this post is to thank him for all the great music he's turned me on to. Case in point: Drunken Prayer's "The Demon". Demons are servants of the devil, and this one may be a physical entity, or a demon of the internal variety. It seems to me that either interpretation is possible, and either way, the devil can be blamed. Looking at [...]

As I clear out my list of albums to write about in 2007, I saw this one listed and decided that this one needed to get a mention. So, here I am, on vacation and drunk by 12:30pm (I went to my local bar and joined in on the daily watching of The Price Is Right)....writing. The first time I heard Drunken Prayer's singer Morgan Geer, I thought he sounded an awful lot like John Murry. That feeling has not subsided one bit over time. Drunken Prayer comes out of Oregon. Their debut cd was self-released early in [...]
