Dublin electro-rock four piece Alias Empire , formerly known as Dry County, just released a new track called 'Pins' an out-take from their new album Safety In Numbers , which is coming out later this year. It's a turbulent disco-pop song soaked in electronic sounds with buzzing synth bass lines, vocoder and machines which go a bit crazy towards the end. You can listen and download 'Pins' on Alias Empire Website .

Alias Empire are the Dublin-based four-piece formerly known as Dry County, who changed their name earlier this year to reflect their sound better than the previous moniker. Specialising in electronic-influenced indie rock sounds, but with more intricate layers and far more adventurous moments than your average 'synth rock' band, they're busy creating the follow-up to their lauded debut album Unexpected Falls , nominated for the Choice Music Prize in 2007. State spoke to band member Kevin Littlewood as the group prepared for their upcoming gig at Club AC30 in Whelans, Dublin. [...]
You probably know by now that Dry County have changed their name to Alias Empire and as is evident in the above press shot are sporting a new techno-punk look. What you might not know however is that the band have a free downloadable EP called AEMIX on their new site as a way of announcing their return. The EP has remixes by Nina Hynes, MJEX, Klass of 83 and this ten minute Philth/Seki remix I rather like. Alias Empire - Another Idea (Philth and Seki remix) [...]

MGMT, Sunday @ Oxegen by James Goulden. Our arrival at Oxegen on day three is greeted by an unfortunate but rather hilarious queue of 300 people for the ATM near the Red Bull skate ramp. After three days of booze, food and more booze, it's obviously taken its toll on wallets as well as bodies too. There is plenty of energy about the place however and you sense people are looking for an outlet. When MGMT take to the stage it becomes obvious where the gathered are going to deposit that [...]

MayKay, Fight Like Apes, Sunday, Oxegen 08 by James Goulden Having flirted with Irish music over the weekend, Sunday is the day when the big four of the new breed look to make their mark, dotted across the various stages. First up on the main stage are THE BLIZZARDS . It's a position that suits them well, providers as they are of power pop for the masses. Throw in a brass section and some bright sunshine (and the two always seem to go together) and while it may not be for the purist, its fine [...]
There were only ever four real contenders for this once the voting started. The top four albums below trail-blazed from day one and the others all languished behind. This year almost 200 of you voted for 61 different Irish albums with 354 votes counted in total. That's three more albums than last year. This blogs championing of the number one album below has left me in a slightly awkward position but perhaps it was inevitable. No doubt, there will be a few cynics who discount the results as a canard but this was a public poll [...]

Another Irish band who I'm looking forward to releasing their debut album are Dry County. I'm a sucker for variety and this 4-piece mix it up enough to keep everything I've heard so far from them pretty solid. Listen to the songs on their Myspace for example. "Lost Now" starts with a electronic beat / vocoder intro which segues into the kind of song which sounds like SOMETHING INTENSE IS HAPPENING. 'Cept it works. A lovely understated slinking bass holds up the whispery vocals while the space-age vocoder pops back to say hello again. It's [...]
