Obviously , this is causing some excitement in our neck of the woods... 1. BANJO! (You guys want to borrow my banjo, Anna Lee? I'll totally let you borrow my banjo Anna Lee.) 2. I've never even met Caitlin Doyle in real life but this song plus her voice plus that girl's style plus the fact that she was (is?) a part of Dustbowl Revival makes me want to BFF her. 3. I suspect I'll be lucky enough to hear this song in person soon, this [...]

There's really not a lot I can say about Patty, other than to point out she's my favoritest of lady songwriters (and one of my favoritest of songwriters, period, gender be damned). I can also say that she has the voice of a goddamned angel. American Kid will be released 7 May via New West . The first single, "Ohio", is bliss wrapped up in the backing vocals of her man, Robert Plant. I wish someone had told me when I was 17 and listening to nothing but classic rock, believing it [...]
Back when I was a teenager, ITV was notorious for dubbing over films in order to 'sanitise' them for public consumption. To this day I still remember what they did to Bruce Willis ' "YIPPEY-KAY-AY MUTHAF*CKER" in Die Hard (which was changed to "YIPPEY-KAY-AY KIMOSABE" ). I vaguely remember them having a field day with the first two Beverley Hills Cop films too. Of late, there have been very few examples of this 'clean editing' on [...]

To say that I am consistently surprised and constantly in love with the output from Tyler Lyle would be an understatement. There's a couple things here: This fucking guy is young. By all accounts, it's unlikely dudes his age are ever this talented. The kind of knowing so prevalent in Lyle's songs usually comes with age and experience but there are things in the subtlety of every song and every album he releases that defy his years. I do not and usually am not moved by a song of begets: [...]

Here at the Hive, we love Vandaveer . But we really love Vandaveer with a banjo. WITH A FUCKING BANJO, Y'ALL. If the first single released from the band's upcoming album Oh, Willie, Please is any indication, this album shall be a barn burner. Songs of murder and self ruin are said to abound and in regards to the latter, we're sure that this album will take over our hearts (as self ruin is a favorite here, please see that Autobiographical [...]

We're big fans of Wild Leaves over 'round these parts and that love developed through just two songs that were released summer last. In short, we're pretty fucking stoked about the upcoming album from this band and if the first single is any indication, our love will soon be growing. Wind and Rain will be released on 26 March. We'll keep you informed. TRUST. ** BANDCAMP :: FACEBOOK
It's ben a long time since Asher's been on the scene, but he returns with a new single featuring Spitta that you're sure to enjoy 'Dude'! You can vibe out to this Blended Babies-produced track below.

Today, Asher Roth brings us "Dude", a definite example of today's dopest lyricists and producer's getting together for what seems to be an unofficial Closed Session. "What would Ash Wednesday be if I didn't release a tune? I wanted to drop you a track I did with my fellow happiness enthusiast Curren$y. I don't know if you'll be giving up anything for Lent, however, I hope it's not pot brownies. Enjoy!" - Asher.

Asher Roth 's latest joint (get it? I'm the worst) arrives as he's ready to leave for a European tour. It also just so happens to be Ash Wednesday, which he's celebrating with the release of "Dude". The track finds him collaborating with like-minded stoner MC Curren$y over some jazzy Blended Babies production. You can't go wrong with that combination and, thankfully, this works pretty damn well. Spitta's verse is slightly sloppy at times, but that's part of what makes his portion endearing. It's loose, ya know?

On the 2nd anniversary of Shakey Graves Day ( there's a fucking proclamation, man ), we have been graced with a little album of perfect perfection from the man himself in honor of the occasion. You have three days to snag it. DO NOT LIE IN WAIT. Last year and this, lovers of jams of the Shakey type were asked to upload (somewhere in the vastness of the internet) a photo of what they were doing to commemorate that day. I have no fucking clue what I did last year but this [...]

I forget it all too often but dammit if The Deep Dark Woods might not consistently be my most favorite band. It's like those fellas have veins full of whiskey and perfection and their beards are stocked full of musical charisma and exceptional lyricism. With this latest offering, a jam written and recorded for the movie Safe Haven, one which we will not see because Jesus, Nicholas Sparks, how many millions is one man entitled to make on the same damn story over and over?! I mean, are women really going to pay to see The Notebook, Volume [...]

"Fuck it dog, life's a risk." Indeed, FIDLAR , indeed. "Cocaine", "Cheap Beer", "Wake Bake Skate", "Stoked and Broke"-a cursory glance at the song titles that populate FIDLAR's self-titled, full-length debut reveal a handful of the essential features of their identity as a band. They are young. They are from Southern California. They enjoy getting fucked up in a plethora of different ways. They enjoy the occasional skate. A cursory listen to just about any of the excellent songs featured therein tell you just about everything else, most of which you might have guessed already. They are [...]

MC Taylor, he of Hiss Golden Messenger, is my spirit animal. Haw will be released via Paradise of Bachelors on 2 April. ** FACEBOOK :: Paradise of Bachelors

Here's a really cool image that Dudeism have just posted onto their Facebook page. It imagines the main players in the Coen Brothers' The Big Lebowski as entries in an American High School-style Yearbook - check it out below:

If I'd have known that these little fellas existed prior to Christmas, they'd have been on my list to Santa. Or maybe they've been designed as one offs by a fan. Either way, here's a pair of Big Lebowski themed slippers - check them out, they're mildly delightful:

Here's one of a series of paintings by Joe Forkan called The Lebowski Cycle . According to the artist the series explores, "layered narratives, using masterpieces of western art and the Coen Brothers' film The Big Lebowski as a starting point" : Check out more of The Lebowski Cycle here .

Last week we started our "Best Songs of 20123 lists . There's no order to them. Why should there be? You should check them all out and decide for yourself. Man, this looks like a ton of fun. It turns out that you don't need much more than a giant pile of leaves to have the time of your life in Utah. [via brobible ]

Here's another top notch poster inspired by the filmic brilliance that is The Big Lebowski : The poster is by Ale Giorgini - an awesome illustrator from Italy. Check out more of his work here .
